GAB & JULS SHOW: Spain are EURO 2024 Champions!🏆 England’s DESPAIR!😭 and much more | ESPN FC

Spain they’re Champions are champions for the fourth time in the the history of the Euros yeah look going into this game I think we might I think we might both have picked England to win on the basis I think at least for me I don’t want to speak for you that Hey look it’s hard to win seven games out of seven in a tournament in fact I think only Brazil in 2002 right has ever done it and that team had Ronaldo Ronaldinho raldo kafu Roberto Carlos basically guys that this Spain team does not have yeah um and also you could see it because we see it all the time that teams sit deep and defend and stifle and then they Nick a goal at the other end through the individual right yeah H and in the first half horrendous first half in which I think hardly anybody took a shot on goal I think there was one save uh in the whole first half it looked like maybe was heading in that direction it looked like England was just not going to play football and was where is just going to defend I don’t know why they expected with the ball because they could not keep the ball that well they just had hardly no rhythm to it there’s a there’s a moment in the first half where Shaw goes forward there’s another one where Shaw plays a diagonal towards Saka and then there’s another lap from Walker but that was it from an England point of view and I thought okay if this is the plan this is never going to work because we are half time and if’ okay they’ve defended deep and they in a way maybe frustrated a little bit Spain but as we saw with Germany as we saw with Georgia as we saw even with France sorry you say that they didn’t just frustrate Spain a little bit they frustrated Spain a lot Spain did not have any chances in the first half either uh the closest thing to his chance was right at the end of the first half and that was Phil foden who plays for England yeah yeah so I am playing Devil’s Advocate a little bit it’s horrendous to watch but if you want to keep doing this there was a logic to it yeah yeah no no no yeah maybe but at some point you also need to start playing football because as we saw with Germany with Georgia with France you can also have a go at them and when you have a go at them you put them under pressure and they not as they look a bit vulnerable at time they’re not as dominant they I’m not sure they like despite having this new mentality I don’t think nobody likes to be under pressure but England never did that and they consed the goal so early in the second half that even if that was the plan he would went out the window very quickly I invite everybody to go and read my piece about the final because I make a point here about Spain which I think is actually quite relevant right we’ve already mentioned the fact that you don’t have the star names from Real Madrid and Barcelona like you did in the past but this team really has a playing style and an identity and there’s two things to say here for me one is they didn’t deviate deviate from it throughout the tournament and even after the horrible first half they weren’t phased even after Palmer equalized they weren’t phased they just kept going yeah they tremendous belief tremendous uh um like you said yeah calm they never panic and secondly this is actually built over time because DEA fente spent 10 years working for the Spanish fa yeah and in that time at Youth Level he won with the under 19s he won with the under 21s Euros as well Olympics and uh yeah was runner up at the Olympics and so many of these players from o Sabal to rodri to Marino to Dan olmo to Fabian Ruiz pedri even pedri kukura all these guys played for him so there’s a familiarity there yeah I think and to be fair I think a few eyebrows were raised when he was chosen to to succeed with Enrique because you can do great work at youth football and we we know some very good youth coaches doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to do that at senior level with with a lot of success but he created an incredible team spirit a different a shift in mentality compared to the Luis henrique style of football and that was only two years ago no so really impressive it it it’s what he had it’s what he had to work with and he made the most of it I think that’s why he chose to build on what he had built before you have to give credit to him you have to give credit I think to the entire Spanish football movement because to have so many players come out of the wood workor and produce players who you know don’t necessarily pay for for the biggest sides I think is a credit um on the flip side now we both live in London as we mentioned this is where everybody goes and wonders what happens about Garis Southgate I’m just going to ask you a very simple question um if you were Debbie hwit and Mark bullingham would you say you know Gary said now is not the time to talk about his future I can tell you right now if I Mark bullingham I would say now is the time to talk about your future and your contract up he mean he means like in a few days not now now after the obviously uh should he move on yeah but I don’t think it should be his decision I think the F should said you know what two finals in a row loss like that psychologically a massive SC for those players we need a fresh start we need someone new English foreign I don’t really care but you need something different you can’t keep this this this is a failure you can say Spain we a better team you can say Italy we a better team three years ago it doesn’t matter so much they’ve lost two in a row for the first time in history and he is for me the most responsible of all of it you can’t keep him he he’s done a tremendous job I think connect with the fans and whatever on that side of it but for the footballing side I think it is definitely time to move on all right Jules sticking with this theme reading the media we were talking about offli before it was England start the tournament they play really badly they underperform um and he gets harshly criticized fans get angry at him yeah they get past Holland in the semi-final and then all of a sudden people are talking like the fa want to extend his contract blah blah blah and everybody’s team Garth again and then they lose the final and its heartbreak and whatever I feel like we haven’t really had the inquest and I also feel like you’ve been in charge for four major tournaments now yeah eight years you’ve decided that you you’ve said it you want to play football a certain way aping What DJ Desa does with France with the solidity and whatever that’s fine but it’s some point you have to play to your strengths you have an incredible array of players attack and we can get into them because I think some players underperform badly in this tournament and but again part of your job part the reason you get you get paid the big bucks is to make the decisions if this guy’s not fit then maybe you pay somebody else if this guy is creating waves within the team then maybe you know you have to address that I feel like in four years I can count maybe on one hand the number England games where I said yes they played really well and they played to their strengths both defensively because it’s not just that it was a defensive performance defensive performance time and again you had to have late comebacks you nearly went out they went behind the last 16 quarterfinal seminal final so this this whole like let’s do like France let’s do like Des that defensive resilience and strength how often did did Des go behind when never exactly yeah so there not just the football doesn’t work the football side of it he’s got the other stuff and he’s a decent man great man let me settle this whatever the football side just doesn’t work it’s just bad he’s just not good enough and I I don’t like him I don’t rate him I don’t like him as a coach I mean I like the person that he is I don’t rate him I think he’s always showed his limits in in game Management in team selection and we can look again at the final yesterday hurricane should never start this final Bellingham should never play as a as a left midfielder in a in a Midfield four this is this is this is Bonkers Luke show you start him okay tripio might not be 100% but you know that luk showa who hasn’t started a football match in February cannot play 90 minutes at this level against y it’s impossible and that yet at half time when we all expect to see him come off you still he still plays and guess what he gets slaughtered in that second half because he just could not do it anymore the first half was okay the second half was a disaster and I just think like I it doesn’t seem to see it how at the start of the tournament he thinks it’s a good idea and a better option to start train Alexander Arnold not once but two games in a row and then Connor gallager when Kobe Mayu was there all the time all right the Gallagher thing I don’t understand at all the TR Alexander Arnold I saw the logic in it um really yeah he thought that we he thought the opposition was going to park the bus against them he thought England were going to have a lot of a lot of the ball and because it’s not like he’s got a whole array of passers in Midfield yeah Tren Alexander Arnold among the Midfield passers he’s maybe the best guy they have maybe with with Mayu where May disagree but the thinking was he can he can bring that passing right he can he can hit that killer ball yeah yeah but we’re talking about board retaining here board retention no Trent is’s amazing uh yeah but he didn’t think there would be an issue with ball retention because he thought the other team would play like he does and have seven people sitting in the Box St in the six-yard Box standing in front of the goal and they would have all this possession they just be pinging it around and if I need somebody to create the space to to to to do the tight passing it’s Alexander Arnold never saw the logic in it okay that part didn’t work out I want ask you about Bellingham because oh Sor before I get to that there was one moment after Cole Palmer came on yeah you all excited 2 minutes 37 seconds you scored 23 seconds all right there you go when all of a sudden I’m looking at England and I see England are in a 4141 right there’s the back four there’s rice there’s Bellingham finally Central yeah with Palmer next to him also Central because Homer shouldn’t be playing on the right wing yeah and then you’ve got Saka on one side foden on the other foden’s on the wing doesn’t matter guess what you don’t have to come inside you can go outside the defender and put it across hey how about that and I’m thinking to myself and and Watkins is in for Kan yeah and it looks sharp and dynamic and the England fans are roaring and I’m thinking this is where the momentum shifts potentially right and look it’s a tremendous credit to Spain that they just said me and they kept playing right despite by the way if you mentioned this they lost their best player at halftime rodri went out right rodri the glue that keeps together right rodri the guy who should win the balandor but won’t all this stuff right yeah he’s not there zubie m’s on who played really really well yeah which by it’s a tremendous credit they kept the confidence they kept the belief but at that point that’s when you have to persevere with that and yet what did we see we saw everybody getting sucked back again and I don’t understand it is that is the default setting it’s his default say yeah yeah yeah but but it’s there by his mistake so if you’ve been working on the ball movement and all of that and this energy and this formation even but no so you might have a moment of Brilliance like that like on the goal which Saka Bellingham Palmer is a great finish but if you want to do it more consistently for another five minutes another 10 minutes another 20 minutes they can’t do it because they have no bearings No structure around to be able to do that and Spain are a better team than them too let’s be honest here but but still a better team not better group of individuals no team yeah team team team that’s what I said but yeah so I was disappoint I mean I was disappointed by pretty much everything England did in the final I don’t think they showed up at all and they it should have been much better make it physical make that game physical that was another thing they didn’t do well I don’t I just don’t understand you are you all playing in the Premier League this is the most it’s it’s an intense League it’s an intense the eight 10 games all the time and yet that is a great point because what struck me most about the first half England when we praise them for because they didn’t concede or I praise them because they they stifled Spain um they did it by slowing the game down to the to a crawl yeah I mean that first half was played at 2 miles an hour which is is fine if you know you have bonuchi Kini back there hey let’s slow everything down also because we’re old and whatever but this isn’t the way these England players play a club level none of these play Maybe Bellingham occasionally for Real Madrid but none of the others Kane F the these guys all play for teams that play on the front foot yeah and it’s also and I don’t want to get into cultures and DN because they change but it is kind of what you associate with England and the English spirit and conquering I mean their record in Wars is pretty good right certainly better than my countries uh probably better than yours too so uh you know and you’re going against all that and if you’re going to do it you have to get it right and yet still they don’t look comfortable in the end we we counted the chances that England had and other than the goal the the Bellingham turn and shot which I thought was a great chance but then you pointed out was actually way wide and he had a better option we could have laid it off the Walkins and then you had the the gay and and rice at the test double header yeah or trouble that’s it yeah yeah yeah no no but they didn’t they didn’t do enough with the Bard they didn’t create but they I know they went to the final and in itself it’s a good result to go to the final of course some people say you never remember the runners Up This is BS this is not complete nonsense completely nonsense go tell Hungary but Slovakia was a better team than England but the Swiss were probably the better team than England for 18 minutes the Dutch it was one half each the first half for England the second half for the Dutch so you got there but at no point you were in control really even mentioning the group stages yeah let’s not let’s not even go there so in the end you can’t always have a miracle that saves you all right I’ll stick up for him I not stick up but I’m going talk about something that’s not Southgate related you mentioned Kane not being fit yeah the other factor I think there I think we have to talk about Jude at some point yeah what we we both saw this I think it was early in the second half yeah yeah when he goes over and he rants very very visibly like at the bench we don’t know if it was a sgate a hard yeah May okay I don’t want to hear the story again it was his friend sitting behind the bench no he was definitely at the bench but we don’t know who at the bench we could not see whatever yeah yeah he has a terrible look you’re supposed to be a leader on this team yeah I mean he just really really angry yeah and you don’t do that at that stage of the game either and I is there a Bellingham issue with with Southgate given how poorly he performed in this tournament yeah yeah he’s been disappointing and yet he’s another guy I don’t believe he was ever substituted uh no and then there was that incident remember uh in the quarterfinals where he’s the number 10 on the board and he looks and what me no no no it can’t be me and we still don’t know to this day if it was a mistake with the number and somebody wrote 10 instead of I don’t know 17 right or if his reaction changed southgate’s mind and actually sou said no no no don’t take Jude off then let’s let’s take somebody else off I don’t think he was fully fit I don’t think he was he was 100% uh but I think we’ve seen enough in his attitude on the page and some of the stories that we heard off the page to say that it was not all amazing within that England camp in relation to Jude Bellingham because he’s the only one not to do a press conferences a press conference he’s the one at 20 is added to the leadership group so Sate has five players well four before him who were the guys that he would have the most meetings with to see how the squad was what was going on how they were leaving what they were feeling etc etc why is Bingham in it I don’t understand and I think a lot of players didn’t understand use him as a leader use him as a special player I mean a special player maybe is he a leader at 20 I mean leadership comes from within I I have less of an issue with that but it we’ve all heard the stories um and I I think stuff is going to come out probably the next couple weeks these guys go away people talk the people they pay to talk on their behalf will come out and and I think we’re going to hear about about kan’s Fitness yeah because it’s not like Kane became bad all of a sudden it’s but he the F Gap would you rather a o Watkins at 100% of his ability physically mentally technically everything you want so wkins 100% or Ken 50% but it’s the it’s the age-old thing right is once you give a player the captain’s armband either you do what we used to do in Italy for a long time just give the captain’s band to the oldest player and then when you want to take him out hey it’s no the guys with the most caps it’s okay because he’s old yeah but that’s not what England do right they give it to Kane because he STS or something he’s a leader and then all of a sudden if you if you drop the guy with a captain’s arm band you create and on top of that you’re not playing well you risk creating a media storm so you have to be 100% confident that if you start Watkins or Tony in his place that things are going to improve I mean but surely it’s a no Briner that somebody who’s 100% of his ability even if he’s not as good as Harry Kane overall we still do better than somebody like Harry Kane who’s only 50% and he played Seven he played 57 minutes for nothing he literally had nothing One Touch in the Spanish box in those 57 minutes he had one shot that was blocked and that was it was completely out of it Anonymous not sharp enough nothing they played with 10 men so why why did you start him let’s turn it back to Spain for a minute obviously we’ve we’ve praised the way they play we’ve praised this group of players I’m just curious of these guys other than yamal and Nico Williams is there anybody who you think on the back of this tournament can go back and have a huge and rodri obviously yeah can come back and have a huge impact at Club level so in other words somebody who’s like this is his tournament where maybe at his Club they look at him and I’m thinking of Fabian H Paris s man like does does Lucho say oh wow this guy’s actually really really good been really good in the last in the second half of the season with PSG though to be fair he was outstanding in the Champions League he was very good in the league no but someone like danm Mo for example you know you danm Mo you still AB liic because you’ve you’ve had these injuries that I think have slowed down your progress but also the possibility that a bigger Club signs you because he’s he’s too good for liic no offense to liic but he’s too good he should he should be a top top club but he’s still not and I think what he showed in those in in the last since since the pedri injury if you’re a top club you’re thinking okay if we can keep him fit he’s an incredible player but that’s always a challenge right it’s the if we can keep him fit yeah no no I know and I think that’s what has kept people away from Dan Al we say the same thing with with medical stuff we’re not doctors although you’re kind of a doctor but we haven’t visited Danny olmo we were doctor true it’s true so you can just just look at it I think from the outside what I’m curious is you know just one thing before you because we discussed it on the on the last show as well and you saying about those players who have clearly clearly like overachieved in a way like a kuura maybe even like a Fabian all of that nor yeah I don’t know how much I don’t know if they can repeat this for the seven games that they played and won as you said to have them pretty much all at their best or not far from it and some of them even better than the best I just don’t know if you can repeat that in two years for example in the 2026 I don’t know how often this comes and and I think I’m I’m I’m trying to kind of project forward right with Spain like where do you go from here you have to find a center a viable Center forward Morata I’m I’m a Morata guy as you know yeah me too I love it um but it’s obvious that he’s not the player that people thought he was going to be and you’re going to have these highs and lows I think he still gave you in this final a ton of work rate his touch wasn’t great but he was running himself into the ground uh Yaman and Nik Williams are there you’re going to add gavi to the mix and presumably B to the mix and Dano in terms of attacking Midfield Wingers you’re absolutely stacked um zui I think can play with rodri as well and you’ve got Fabian further back I think obviously Alejandra Bal will be back and I didn’t want to reopen the kukur I think kukur by the way he still got booed every time there was so many Germans in there didn’t think there were that many but the ones who were there were noisy booing poor Kua and even Gia is going to come back from injury and Grimaldo might I I’m not sure he likes g and Grimaldo GA was injured so I don’t think he likes him though I don’t think it’s his I don’t think he’s a de guy but also G is getting I don’t know how old he is now but yeah yeah but like they other option than kukura that’s why they are G different profile from Kuka so I I think it’s going to be Bal or or kukura you know if he wants to keep that sort of defensive profile but obviously you’re going to have to find a solution to Carvajal at a right back yeah Center back will wait for kuari to continue hopefully continues developing PES I think can come into the mix just because these two guys they did a job for you but there’s Vivan as well I don’t nor noral I think with Diego Sim attico can can become even better but yeah you’re right there’s a few question marks over the future so does this mean that who does this mean that Spain are bigger favorites than France for 2026 I would I would not go but anyway I think uh just to wrap this all credit to Spain um because I think it just really shows right I don’t want to say I have I hesitate to say nice things about the Spanish fa because of what happened Al and whatever but in terms of actually producing footballers men and women yeah and and having a structure that allows them to win yeah uh they are exceptional all right enough Euros let’s talk Copa America H there’s good and bad shall we start let’s start with the good let’s start with the football side of things well good less good if you’re Colombia I was excited for this final I thought Colombia when I watched that first half I thought oh they played so well they got this got this this is where it comes to an end for Lon scalone on top of that you see Messi going off mess crying on the bench off yeah but then after that it’s the changes that did it Lelo Paredes and of course Lao okay scalon stop it stop it play L forget the World Cup play L more for me it’s obvious I just thought they looked better without Messi and I know I know I know this is not what a lot of people want to hear but the truth they were better without him and I think there’s again a bit like with Cristiano there will be a moment where this is inevitable inevitable that he just can’t do it a game like this through the tournament in a group stage is fine but he was not fit at the start of the tournament he was not fit during the tournament he missed some games he started this final I’m not sure how fit he was to start anyway and then obviously there’s there’s the the tackle the incident and his ankle is really swollen he has to come off I just thought they were better and for me the goal in a way the parades loo and the ass from Lelo foro is just amazing and this is the kind of of movement and ball movement and runs that they don’t always have with Leo as well obviously that that that’s a really good point you you don’t have that option when it’s a different option but it’s also true that the people who made it happen with all due respect Leandro Paredes who you know was extremely up and down last season now he’s I don’t even know where I think I his contract’s up right so he’s out there um I think he’s a team loso I don’t even he’s another guy he’s kind of like forgotten on the back um and obviously L is is a different story the way they came through I thought colia tailed off in the second half yeah I’m not sure about the substitutions either you know to take off James and L all that front three James wasn’t working though I know but you’ve been really good on cpc’s all tournament keep him even just for that during extra time man they I I just I was not and and again I thought after that front three change for Colombia they were not the same threat we have to talk about what happened before the game if you watch the game you’ll know it was delayed um I mean literally this happened hours ago so details are still Spar so I’m just going to go by what the official reports seem to be so far uh there was a group a large quantity of fans outside the stadium who tried to get into to the stadium some of them climbing trying to get in VI the ventilation system a lot of them managed to get through without tickets and yeah I mean certainly reporters our reporters others on the ground saying like you know this this crowd is over capacity yeah you could see um are Callie Carrie Brown even coming out and saying everybody just go everybody should just turn around and just go home now forget the game which I thought was a bit you know but if you’re there and you I’m not I’m not there I might have said the same thing you might there scary you could see he was like in that champ Final in Paris possibly even worse but more like the maybe I was thinking the Euro 2021 final where Wembley was a way over capacity yeah um we also saw fans injured and I think there’s there’s an issue with with policing as well yeah um you know clashes with the police again I’m not in a position to tell a policeman how to do his job in terms of security clearly when you see people bloodied I that’s not how things are supposed to happen no and it’s such a bad look for the USA to start with with the World Cup to come in two years and I don’t care if it’s kol who was responsible to organize it if it was kav it doesn’t matter so much everybody worked together and this should never happen this should not happen like the pitches like the like all the problems that this we’ll go to the other issues it was kable organizing it but obviously comol aren’t responsible for the policing and the security and this is the part which I really really struggle at all these major events you have what they call filtering areas right so there’s Gates that are away from the stadium that you can only access you go through once you show your T you have your ticket you can only get in but the gates the the the the blockoff AIS is far away yeah from the stadium right is it be like I don’t know a half a mile or something right now it’s harder to do in some places like you look at where the Arsenal stadium is for example you’re like in the middle of a city or or the bnab yeah that is not the case with Hard Rock in Miami people arrive by car you don’t have tickets you don’t get into the parking lot yeah it’s not like people come on Foot Right This is a complete breakdown uh they have to get this right for 2026 um and you can’t just say oh but I I don’t want to hear a backlash also from fans of other American Sports like this doesn’t happen in the NFL it’s not the NFL it’s a different sport yeah different crowd different situation different crowd you have have to be prepared it’s not like Miami hasn’t hosted football matches before um this is really unacceptable H you expect a just just a full investigation a full report and those who are responsible need to be held responsible and they need to be held to account all right Joe we had to talk about some of the nasty stuff I want to bring it back to football yeah um the job that nesto Lorenzo did with Colombia I thought was really impressive and and this 28 games in a row without losing until obviously this Final in next time and this unit I mean the Romantic in me wants to see jamez in 2026 but the rest of the team will just be hitting their Peak right yeah H for me the player of the tournament just behind lautaro because lautaro scored the final was really good Rios who I didn’t really know that well before austo is exceptional and I I can’t wait to see him in Europe surely it’s a matter of time before big a big European Club come and get him from from Brazil where he plays but I just thought he was he was absolutely outstanding I thought until the red card Muno also was was was a really really big player from them and then you’ve got obviously Duran and and and Lis Diaz and all the others that that that we already know no it’s a really good good team they have something great building where are where are Argentina I and I wonder about look scalon Copa America World Champion makes it work with Messi and the team which is not easy not because Messi’s bad but because when you have Messi in the team you have to play in a way that is unlike the way any of these players play Club football right except for his inter Miami teammates but they don’t play for Argentina yeah um that takes a lot from a manager’s perspective yeah he does and he takes a lot of football IQ and intelligence from the players around from an Enzo to a Rodrigo de to a mallister to a Di Maria to an Alvarez or laar whoever ever plays up front because you’re always looking at where mess is compensating going into different spaces and also knowing that anytime a genius ball can come through so you have to be ready as well because those still happen so it can’t be easy but they’ve I think they’ve also build not just the winning mentality because maybe this is this a word that is a bit overblown but I think even yesterday when they bit on the back foot they just don’t panic they know that at some point they’re going to find something and it’s just remarkable and you said two cup America One World Cup one finisima they they’ve lost three games in 68 or 69 now on the scalon it’s just incredible really incredible and again with Messi not at his prime if it was Messi at his Prime and he would carry this team and you would you would say okay like a Diego in 86 or you would say okay no problem but they they they’re doing this when Messi is not I PE he’s gone past his best because that run started when he was what 30 three already so this is just incredible the the other the other thing I was just double-checking this that I didn’t imagine this because I watched this game on the plane back from Berlin yeah me too um to take off you talked about personality right just opposing him in Southgate or or other managers who don’t make substitutions he took off M Alister and Enzo Fernandez yeah that takes Personality yeah I think and the takes personality it is okay Di Maria will be gone this was di Mia’s last game of course for the national team Eno will sorry Messi at some point will be gone you’re playing in a final the game is still in the balance and you take off these two guys who presumably will be your Midfield leaders for the next five years it’s not ain’t GNA be Leandro Peres and losel so let’s face it right yeah yeah true I mean that takes Stones look maybe they had a knock but they didn’t both have a knock at the same time they to take them out it’s decisions like these which I think are pretty bold you know it’s not Alvarez Martinez whatever that’s back and forth that’s fine right yeah that that that’s impressive I agree I agree and I think because he was such a massive battle in that Midfield and we mentioned Rios and and those Columbian players who are so Technical and yet so physical at the same time which is really impressive I think he did the he changed at the right time and we go again to substitutions and I think Scallon read this game so so well in what he did and Colombia maybe not so much all right off Cup finals how about some quick hits instead let’s go gab Manchester United have signed Yoshua Zer from bologna JS how much will he help so I’m very happy first of all by this transfer because I wanted to see him in the Premier League uh because I think he’s a special player but hear me out here he’s a special player because of his skill set which is not the skill set of a pure Striker pure number nine pure finisher I don’t think he will score you 30 35 goals a season but he can do so many things so many things he is a smart player he’s very good technically he’s strong he’s quick he really has everything now how do you fit him in this team is it him and holand so hland is the finisher and zery is a bit of the Creator as a second Striker or you play one or the other this is why I’m really curious really fascinated to see what happens because because you don’t spend 45 million on a 5year deal for someone like him if you don’t play him right well he’s still very young you can alternate them you can work it in you got to have an eye towards Bruno who’s got two years left I mean I’m assum I think it’s objectively difficult to fit rashford garnacho or whoever and hland and xer and Bruno into the same team I don’t think it’s going to happen so I think it’s more a question of getting cover um xer can also play in wider areas but then he’s a different profile to hland so we go back to what kind of football are united going to play because if it’sand starting you don’t play the same way than if starting no but they’re very young and I think they can develop I like I I don’t know the one thing which would make me uneasy is these are two guys like xerus was fantastic at bolognia but he had pieces around him he had a very good coach yeah he had a lot of elements that were really suited to him you know this is a guy who I was speaking to a Dutch colleague who pointed out that you know he’s like 22 and he’s been at like six different clubs right already yeah and others like Bayern said uhuh nine not good enough for us right so it is a big lead but I’m I’m really excited to see what to see what he can bring more united J and Sun show is back at training reports are that him and Eric tenh made up gab do you think he will still be there though on September 1st honestly I don’t think so I think I don’t think it’s a personality thing I think United have Wingers they have options um the question is can they find a home for him and that will be the challenging part Juventus we’re hoping that Adrian rabio despite being a free agent on July 1st might return to the club for another season or two instead they say he’s been ghosting them it’s on holidays what do you expect dude you’re unemployed he’s chilling I think he’s playing his card so well no rush let’s just wait for the office from the Premier League and Manchester United for example who were really Ken two years ago maybe another team from England okay so when you fall down the stairs because your hair is so big that it gets stuck in the ceiling uh and you’re unemployed and don’t have any insurance and so on and then September comes and goes it’ll be fun yeah you think he what you think he’s going to have no Club in September no I think he’s made so much money off of Juventus so much money that’s at least a courtesy to pick up the phone or or get you ver veronic is dealing with this I’m sure she’s doing a great job she’s answering the phone either is she in vacation without does she need to chill too somewhere in the Maldives or something like that chilling weo on holiday with his mother man dude cut your freaking hair Aston Villa reportedly close to picking up amadu Anana from Everton for a fee of around 50 million pounds does it make sense to you I think he’s a phenomenal player I think he’s the right age profile if they can again I thought they had no money I’m a bit it’s the magic of amortization if you give them a 5year deal cost you 10 million and you make made money off of Douglas Louise and and who’s the other weirdo the guy they they they s to they swapped with Everton with ls doin right uh all this stuff Kelly man CH Kelly man uh from a purely footballing sense I think it makes makes a lot of sense obviously a natural replacement for for Douglas Louise if you want that I think they they needed that too because I know you kept talking me about bbac car blah blah blah but you know what come on let’s let injury as well he needs to come back yeah who knows when the guy’s going to be F yeah who beat Canada on penalties for the coveted cop America bronze medal we love our third place games we do Jules what did you make of Canada keeper Dane stclair and yes that is his real name I honestly I thought it was made up it it sounds like well an adult film actor I don’t know uh hiding Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio R’s water bottle and getting himself booked come on come on this is like serious football don’t do this don’t what we playing hide and now you just on the bottle you had obviously instructions yeah like a lot of Keepers do like Jordan pford does yeah but like a lot of them do so he’s hiding it but leave the guy Alone come on it’s funny because you know we have stereotypes in football right about dark arts and stuff like that and Uruguay are always the bad guys right who do these little tricks and the Canadians are always the nice ones oh look it up just you know Justin Chau maple syrup the mount you know whatever and then it’s one of them who goes and turns villain I know and R Suarez who who didn’t bite anybody in this game no but came on scored the equalizer then he went to penalties scored his penalty and then Alonso Davis Tri to panenka Misses it yeah not a good idea and then Uruguay get that third place and sticking with ugu Gabby Marcelo beela did not hold back in slamming K ball before this match the third place playoff gab what was he complaining about this time he was complaining about the pitches he was complaining about about security you know what this time I gave b a really hard time when he gave his thing where he looks really wise about the first speech about football belongs to the pool blah blah blah and because I said this makes no sense you’re just like a rambling guy who wants to appear intellectual or or or fools think you’re intellectual because you know I’m not saying he’s not intellectual but he’s 100% correct use the term plague of liars uh a lot of things were really badly handled by comall In This Comal bear a lot of the responsibility and it’s good that they hold him to account what I would like to see go further though scalon it’s not like kable is some sort of organization the Illuminati ordained by God kable is 10 federations scaloni you’re employed by the Argentine fa Bela you’re employed by the Uruguay FAA go to your bosses because they are cable the leaders of ufas are cable and say we can’t work like this I’m sure Brazil will back you I’m sure a lot of people will back you yeah Patrick is the latest name to be linked to the vacant US Men’s National Team job Jewels do you like this I like this a lot I think uh he was he’s quite to go still he was quite to go before never really had any contact after the 2022 World Cup but yeah I think it would be great used to live in the states yeah of course gab Juventus have been trying to shift Western mckeny all summer long could inter Miami offer him a home um I I don’t know where they keep finding money to sign all these players but hey if they can to the DP no I I don’t those are MLS Mysteries um I don’t know if it’s good for the US I I generally don’t know if Weston mckenny at this stage of his career going back and playing an MLs uh makes any sense that he does he’s got a year left on his deal he’s going to have to take a pay cut and go somewhere else if he wants to stay in Europe that’s the reality yeah golden oldies anah Maria and Johnny Evans both signed one-year extensions at Benfica and Manchester United respectively were they teammates at Manchester United it feels like so long ago in the early Evans had left maybe no do you remember that when like to go to West Brom like oh di Maria he’s the he’s like Robin like yeah okay whatever uh Jules which will be more more significant next season whose extent I can’t believe you’re asking this question or will you just tell me that I shouldn’t mention both names in the same sentence absolutely absolutely poor and Maria to be associated with Johnny Evans Di Maria who as we’ve said retired from International Football is fair enough after winning everything but still a bit more for Benfica and I think rightly so Johnny Evans unless he for some sort of like quotas or like you know coing R yeah or coaching role or being part of uh the fact that he you was a youth team player for the academy or for the for the club or something like that I don’t see the point at all of keeping him do you really I don’t see I don’t know why United give him an extension for a year to do well they’re short on center backs are they yeah yeah Maguire Lindelof but you don’t like Maguire and Lindelof no I don’t but I still I assume they’re hoping to play them before Johnny Evans I’m assuming they’re going to try to move lindel off yeah I mean let’s see let’s see renat Vega is’s the new Chelsea player gab he’s just 20 comes from bazel in Switzerland and cost 14 million euros where does he fit in and do they really need another centr midfielder at Chelsea well he’s a left footer and that’s important supposedly he’s also jub as well he’s def by that I’m just saying he’s also played left back in the past I think at alburg um short answer I would the thought no because you have Moises sko you’ve got Leslie you’ve got was going to go I think Leslie sure yeah yeah oh we SPID a lot of money for him I send him on loan bring another one in like no it’s true R Lavia your friend some point we will see is he a real person is he a real person is he a hologram um is he a bot but I think the basic strategy is to accumulate young talent and you know sew and then reap 14 million is not a lot in some ways in other ways like I’m they probably sign him to like you know the usual nine-year contract yeah for sure with the amortization is cost you 2.8 million euros a year and one thing I would say is I know Portugal are a good side but I don’t think he’s been capped yet for Portugal I mean if you’re CH a bit of a gamall for sure a bit of a role to that definitely ran midfielder Des gu is very good he one of the most hyped teenagers on the market and honestly there’s YouTube clips of him that you can enjoy and you can see what the what what the fuss is all about so so good so who’s on his Trail yeah they que Gabby from Bayern Munich who’ve already made an offer of 35 million EUR which Ren rejected because they won maybe 10 10 million more at least maybe 15 ideally they would like to go to 50 million 50 million EUR for know but of his age is a he’s 20 uh I think he’s he’s just incredible okay but kaminga and Ryan Sheri were better than him at his age so Kam got a different profile and yeah even shy different profile to be but he has something very special uh so Bayern Munich we said Chelsea and Spurs here in England PSG are big fans and I think PSG could be the one where he feels maybe staying in Le a little bit longer especially in the dominant team like Paris and then go to a bigger club might be a good idea so we’ll have to see but Bayern and B are pushing really hard to get him I just don’t know where you play him if you because do you need more Wingers well no he can play Central he can play literally as a second Striker he can play as a fource n he can play as a 10 he can play as an eight I think he’s got really everything he can play wide and maybe wide is still his best position you’re right but he not Winger like a no no no no of course I what’s interesting is you haven’t mentioned that he’s Paris born and bread which makes me think he’s not Paris born and bread otherwise you would have told us I know I know that’s why I keep this one quiet Simon inagi has signed a oneye contract extension at inter through 2026 gab how big is this and why not a longer extension so I think it is Big because Simon in zagi has been so impressive for in he’s been such a great fit for the club it get stability obviously now that with with oak tree running the club why not a longer extension well you know what this is this is a question I would love to ask to all those clubs who give three four five year extensions right like six sometimes Manchester United with thog now right yeah the hell you need an extension right you want to give him an extra year s Shimon in zagi had a year left blah blah blah reward him he’s won the title he’s reached the Champions League final fine two years you don’t need to go beyond that why I agree when do clubs understand that there are a lot more managers than there are football clubs and yes if you have pep if you have klopp and they go in and say I want the big extension fine they’re going to be babies about it sure but you know in any manner people say oh but if it’s a shorter term contract and it undermines authority of the manager you know what if you need a contract to assert your authority over a team you are not a good manager it’s simple as so I think oakry are acting like grown-ups here and I applaud it I wish other clubs would do the same yeah Willie Cala like I said you can never have enough Manchester United bread by the way Willie CA he’s uh he’s left Manchester United he’s not VI which is probably why they needed to sign Johnny Evans see yeah of course um deal is worth 10 million EUR I think this is really good money when you consider that the guys poor guys had Serious injury problems and he only had a year left on his contract yeah I think it’s a really good sale by United really so can we applaud and say something good about United whether it’s Jason Wix we don’t know maybe it was rackliff himself really good or if CA becomes the new vers vanon Dyke then we will look at the 10 million saying like H maybe it was not the greatest of idea to sell him but anyway they don’t have a buyback do they no I don’t think so they might have um first refusal is that but I don’t even think so so V saw him at times last season they liked what they saw when he played he had some really good games some more difficult but he was still young in a team that was not functioning properly so I I like him a lot I really like him a lot and I hope La Liga works for him yeah look I mean people I know this but when he was 16 17 he was one of the highest rated young center backs in Europe and I also think from United’s perspective if you have this uncertainty with him in the situation you’re now in terms of flux you either have to make a big boy decision and say he’s going to be my third Center back this season yeah or you loan him but you can’t loan him if you can’t he’s not going to extend his contract no you don’t want to left you you you can’t commit to a long-term contract unless you’re sure because we’ve seen United make this mistake with players in the in the past that’s very true I I I think they definitely made the right decision here and they got good money for him I agree a Spanish court has ruled out has ruled against Barcelona sorry in the legal dispute with Nike gab what does this mean in Here and Now simply put as I understand it it means that there’s no way Johan laart can wiggle out of the Nike deal assuming he was ever going to do that yeah cuz he wants you to Market his own shirt basically he said like oh he he pointed out he spoke publicly saying that there were all these flaws he wasn’t happy with the money they were getting from Nike he wasn’t happy with some of the distribution and stuff like that my understanding is you know Nike said well we can sit down and talk about it but you know we’re not re renegotiating just some stupid number he put pressure on them saying ah well you know apparently I mean reportedly you know he tried to bring other um apparel manufacturers into the mix he even said oh we can make our own shirts yeah um Court said basically uh-uh this is not this is one lever you’re not pulling you got the contract to 2028 stick to it I think if somebody comes in with a bigger deal because the reality is Nike are running a business yeah and Nike want to work with laort alone right otherwise there there’s no point but you want to be in good terms somebody comes in they pay a penalty they get out of it somebody offers you enough money there is a way out of it but this seemed to me like a really DB battle to fight on on LA’s part Diario Spain are reporting that Real Madrid and their Fitness coach Antonio pinus the legend that is Antonio pus they want to put kilan mbappe on a physical regimen similar to that which helped extend Cristiano Ronaldo’s career when he bulked up and became the Greek god that he is today yeah good idea I think anything that helps you becoming better better player fitter player sharper player is welcome by anybody I would hope like if someone comes to see you and say listen if you do what say you know you’re going to improve everything in your life like as much as you can so I’m sure kilan will be in agreement I mean he’s 25 years old so it’s not like if he was towards the end of his career he wanted to extend that bit more but pin as we know together and you especially Gabby works his people really really hard so this should be I I think the one thing I would say to this is it I think people getting a little ahead of themselves right because like you said it’s not like the transformation that Cristiano underwent was a little bit older at that stage Kian is a different player with with different characteristics I don’t think kilan will ever be as good as Cristiano in the air for example um so you take into account I think most likely what happened here is somebody talked to pinus or somebody talked to somebody who talked to pinus and says like hey are you excited to work with mbappe and he says yes I want to you know such a phenomenal athlete blah blah blah we’re going to do the best to to keep him fit and have him play for Real Madrid as long as possible and then it turns into oh look he’s going to be like Cristiano no yeah do not expect to see uh a buffed up kilan kilan by the way will be presented as a Real Madrid player tomorrow on Tuesday in a full bab and I think a very special presentation full bnab Madrid in the middle of July that’s impressive yeah Iceland iir Al Grimson is the new coach of the Republic of Ireland but gab what’s this story about him not giving up his dentist tree career okay I remember I vaguely remember this when I saw your Cricket so heer hamson is a dentist and yes even when he was coaching Iceland he continued with his dental practice um then he went to coach Jamaica did badly with Jamaica very bad in that time when he was he was coaching Jamaica a lot of a lot of his patients at his Dentistry practice back in rikic yeah said oh no I only trust you hair um they apparently as The Story Goes they stopped going to see the dentist which is a very bad thing you should have regular checkups with your dentist I must be a really good dentist maybe a better dentist than he’s a football coach I don’t know I don’t know how to Republic of Ireland that ended up with him because like I with with all due respect like it’s not like he’s a young up incomer it’s not like I it’s it’s it’s it’s an odd one but he’s come out and said like oh look it’s only a couple hours from uh from Dublin to uh to rikic um few appointments and then up yeah I’ll come up get some appointments in make a bit of cash on the side why not uh I I I love each look and I’m making fun I’m not making fun of the Republic of ir Republic of ir have been to World Cups they might be at the next world World Cup they’ve got some very good players yeah but it just shows you the Divide right International managers you’ve got Southgate you’ve got spetti you got these guys making millions and millions of us wants to hire klopp and whatever and then this dude’s still a part-time dentist yeah ah pretty remarkable I think yeah Jules this brings us to an end uh not just of the show but of the 2023 24 season that’s right uh we’re gonna be back on Thursday but Thursday August 15th just ahead of the Premier League season until then have a great summer love the game love your neighbor love yourself [Music]

  1. England should have put Gab in goal, instead of Pickford. No shot would have passed into the goal, too tight to fit the ball in.

  2. Spain were superior, played as a unit from the start of the tournament to the end . They deserved the euros as a neutral i enjoyed watching 🇪🇸 and 🇹🇷. England are failures …simple

  3. England IS in a Bubble 😂 olimpics Squad Badjetic BryanZaragoza Brian Gil Omorodion Huijsen Veiga NicoGonzález Mosquera Cubarsí Moleiro Barrios Riquelme Fermín…and Dont forget Gavi &Baldé

  4. England's best chance of winning is the 2028 euros at home. World Cup 2026 will be difficult.
Fun Fact: Only two European teams have won a World Cup outside of Europe ever:-Spain (2010) and Germany (2014). England should concentrate on 2028 Euros.

  5. As long as you don't really look into the reality outside Anglo Saxon media telling constantly that the league they have invested in so much oil dictatorships is the best and one and only, and that no one can compare to you, and the rest of the world are farmer's leagues, you will not be able to evolve.

We constantly hear that the PL is the best league by far, and yet a single club in Spain has won more UCL that all the UK's clubs altogether, and as a national team they have won nothing since 1966. English football is only superior on paper, more precisely on English's Papers.

I think English fans don't want a SuperLeague because deep down, they don't dare to face us on a daily basics.

  6. The funny thing is that the English media always try to say that English players are better than their Spanish players, and vice versa 😂

  7. It makes no sense, to pick whoever players as scapegoats. Spain created an absolutely phantastic TEAM with players, who were rated lower, than the English ones. Best example is the substitition of Rodri, which didn't change the level of the Spanish performance. Single things like forming triangles and so on I could hardly discover in English team. They just relied in special moments of single players, while missing out, to create a real team with all these amazing players.

  8. The difference between Spain and England is that the Spanish approach every game looking for momentum to score the goal attacking. The English only wait for momentum based on the opponent's error defending. That doesn't work against Spain.

As Rodri said: we all attack as a big team and we all defend as a small team. But always trying to impose our game. What is England playing?

  9. england can beat the medium to lower teams but to beat the great european sides they need a more forward thinking manager. they have arguably the best players so what's missing.

  10. English players are overrated. They can do with foreign players with their club’s but on international level is where we really see the players level

  11. I don’t think Gab ever played football. He doesn’t understand football. On the other hand, Juls is a very good footballer. I saw the clip that he played, very quick.

  12. ‘I hesitate to say good things about the Soanish FA because of Rocha’ God Gab you are embarrassing sometimes, give credit where it’s due. You’re the type of guy to refuse to acknowledge 2+2=4 because Hitler said it once…

  13. In knockout football, you dont always win by being the best team, past tournaments have proven that many times!. On this occasion however, Spain was clearly the best and it was well deserved. If England get a more tactical and attacking manager, then they will be a force at the next world cup, especially with the talented squad they have.

  14. Anglophiles Gab and Jules picked Engerlund to win. Of course they did, being the extraordinary expert duo they are at footie analysis. I'm surprised they don't predict lottery numbers. Who would have guessed that the team with the better players, tactical gifts, style of play and better manager could beat England.

  15. Also Brazil in 2002, while very commendable for winning all their games faced far inferior opposition to Spain here.
Brazil 2002's World Cup group was laughably easy. The easiest rubbish group with China, Costa Rica and Turkey. They beat a pre golden generation Belgium side in the Round of 16. The only tough sides Brazil played were England in the quarterfinals and a weak Germany in the final. They played Turkey in the semifinals. But get real. That's an easy pass to the final especially after Brazil beat them in the group stage.

Spain had a group of Death in this Euros with the defending champions Italy and last World Cup semifinalists Croatia. They had to face hosts Germany and last World Cup finalists France before getting to the final.

Brazil in 2002 were a wonderful team with world class players but they faced an easier path to winning all their games.

  16. It's easy to blame Southgate but the reality is, England are over-hyped and have always been over-hyped. Their style is boring and their players average. Even Pep, Ancelotti or any other top coach won't win anything with them.

  17. Messi needs rest. Imo he should skip some qualifier games to get healthy. Maybe play every other game. Also, it might help Argentina in the long run if he starts to play less minutes a game to conserve him longer.
