all right Jules we’ve been a little hard on kumin have we but I also feel just overall in the tournament okay I van djk is a bit older now um I don’t think def fr’s been bad throughout the tournament but there are other options on the bench that might have been more aopo here uh you know theck all of a sudden it’s like he’s become some weirdo paria G that we saw him and we didn’t see him van who’s done well when it whenever it come on Van the obvious one even playing AK left back kind of I know it’s a bit of a hybrid position but still it’s just like why not van dijk and and Aki together in you know know the right and then said anyway there’s a lot of things I don’t know about the guy I don’t understand about the D guy you don’t understand them but he could point out and he could say yes sches you didn’t mention that Doom free he he hit the wood this is the best accent you do the Dutch one it’s a game of millimeters a game of inches right yeah yeah yeah they’re playing England England who are substantially better again because Holland don’t have the young they don’t have CP miners all these guys and they still go to the point where they hit the woodwork I mean I think foden shot I just the randomness of the tournament that with Holland playing this badly with Holland having two important players out with kumman making silly decisions with certain players daam malen obvious example not having good tournaments um they still come so close to the final yeah I mean I guess to start with is thew yeah the luck of the draw to start with because they finished third in that group and then they still end up in the half of the draw that is by far the easiest and they play Romania and turkey turkey have been great toward we’ve said we’ve been at some of the games amazing fans AR Gula Montel everything you want still turkey you know on the other side of the draw Holland I don’t think would have gone through after the last 16 had they play had they had to play a France or Portugal or Germany or even Belgium earlier I think they would have been up so but but good for them this this is not something that you can control where you finish and and and who you face you can only beat what’s in front of you that’s why they go so far and we can say Again by England by the way that’s again like in 2018 and 2021 they find themselves in the right side of the draw so which is good again which is good th this teas up our look at the final I think where we turn into Robo with hair um Spain a much much tougher run to the final um just even in terms of pedigree leaving aside obviously teams that when hour we can now say oh Croatia were bad Italy were bad yeah okay but they still played them right Croatia Italy Germany France that’s pretty blue ribbon yeah England toughest opponent they’ve had Switzerland I guess Switzerland but England have been favorite in every single game that they’ve played right until now now they will be The Outsiders there’s no nobody can say to me oh they are favorite you think they’re The Underdogs sure Spain have won their six games they’re the best team in this tournament they play the best football they have games this and this is you this is why I think both of us are picking England to win um I take your point but I look at matchups I look at matchups in this game and I also look at the fact who is close to their ceiling of performance England are far below their ceiling of performance and England for like you said you don’t turn it on though you can’t just turn on switch but what we’ve seen and what has kept England alive in this tournament you can’t turn it on collectively as a team Southgate hasn’t shown that ability ultimately it’s G Southgate but we’ve seen individuals create out of nothing right we saw with Saka we saw with Bellingham they have more people who can do that than Spain right we we we agree on that yeah yeah for sure um Spain you might say Dano you might say you obviously say yamal and then you know Niko Morata already that’s a b yeah but they can that’s a bit scetch Yeah but rodri can do from you know a shot on yeah he does the thing where he passes the ball on the back of theet harder to do against England when they have eight people standing in a line in front ofe I agree but England have many many more and you have many many more solutions yeah and people can create out of nothing yeah uh so for that reason the formula the the Southgate formula if you will which might have been The Damp formula back in the day well actually it is because he said like oh you know he said desan he’s models himself on that yeah back three keep it tight yeah um and then wait for something to happen yeah and if it goes to penalties then we wait maybe yeah probably yeah you know you’re right it could be as simple as that to be fair they always they’ve always found a way in this tournament always and I just think they will find a way and I can’t give you much more than that in my preview I just don’t there’s nothing scientific or tactical or I’m just saying they find a way and they will find a way again I just don’t understand this team they have a bad coach they’re not well coached they are great individual players but at some point in some roles in some roles not not up and down across the board yeah yeah yeah and I I just don’t I don’t know I find them amazing the character that they have they scored 80th minute against Switzerland to draw and then wait for pens and win the pen they scored 94th against Slovakia to go into extra time and then score early in extra time yesterday they scored in the 92nd minute to win a game where in the second half they look like sto City it’s just I just don’t understand there’s something about this team that I find fascinating cuz I just I just don’t know like I don’t know how they win but they find a way of winning and I think they’re going to win the final like that we’re going to meet together we go into the final together we’re going to see each other after like how did they do that how did that happen how could how did they beat that team it would be exactly the same either that or we’ll just blame Southgate again yeah one or the other um I also find incredible that for all the talk of planning and this and that I thought England’s best player by some distance you know if you take a side Watkins obviously was only on for a few minutes was a guy who didn’t even play regularly until what January kobby Mayu yeah yeah what does it say that I look he’s very very good and same way yama’s very very good but they also don’t want to overhype him like he’s kind of Brian Robson here he walks into the team a team that southgate’s been building for a long time and he’s the best player yeah and I think but it shows you again how bad sad is because he never he didn’t see it he was almost forced to do it this is someone Southgate who preferred train Alexander Arnold first for two games in a row Conor gallager for the third game before thinking you know what that Kobe kid that I’ve seen a training for the last four weeks look decent maybe I should try to give him a go come Kobe Mayu should have started this tournament all day long we all knew it we all knew it gab we’ve all seen it for sgate to not start him before the fourth game showed you how incomp but it doesn’t matter now he started him same with the back three he should have done that earlier it’s okay it’s all good now and I guess we’ll see because they need Kobe Mayu at this kind of level if they want to win this final against like we said Fabian and rodri have been the best Center Midfield partnership in the tournament so it’s a hell of a test for rice and Kobe to face Fabian and rodri to young players from England who are not have the experience and you know and just the yeah their age compared to Fabian re and rri so you we we’ve talked about the Midfield we emphasized how important the Medfield Midfield battle was against France what I wonder a little bit is if you play a back three and you know you said that oh it was logical to play the back three yeah probably um while Shaw was injured and you know still not 100% % but if you play a back three with Saka and Shaw I mean or possibly Tri but whatever is there a risk then that you actually make yourself even weaker in Midfield and you end up just retreating so deep that everything is played is is in front of you you see what I’m saying right one of those three Center back to come inside on Dani Mo to step up on danm Mo absolutely so you think that’s GNA happen there’s no I I want to think like if we know it surely the England staff know knows it as well and this is and to be fair we say back 3 K Walker yesterday played a lot a lot really wide right almost like a so this maybe a back three hybrid back four and Saka was never really the wing it looked kind of sophisticated what he was doing there but I think this is the easiest adjustment to do I was only watching on television so I was there in person so OB get a different view yeah yeah but I’m like oh this is actually he doing something interesting and sophisticated or Kyle Walker’s just running around randomly where he wants and Saka who’s more intelligent has to adjust to where Walker going I think he was an easy adjustment that they could do to be fair but I think if they keep the back three which I think they will it’s really important like you said to have otherwise Dano is goingon to have so much space because obviously Mayu and rice will be on rodri and Fabian and then Dano as we saw against France especially if Nico or lamin comes inside this could create a bit of Chaos in the England Midfield so one of those three center backs whether he stones or Walker or gayi so the more I think about this I would say the matchups don’t favor England but then I look at the other end of the pitch and I think to myself with that back four I’m does Len Norman come back in h i I don’t know if he’d be fair so coming in for sure uh and for noro Nacho natural aort is not the greatest no but then he Kane who’s not fit clearly who’s not going to run down the channels like we saw what Kings do but the question is is f Bellingham no you don’t drop Kane he’s your captain no even a bad Kane Kane has been bad in this tournament I know he scored three goals I could have scored two the three goals he scored the head the tap in and the penalty this is what he did okay you wouldn’t have scored the header right I scored the header as big as you are but you wouldn’t have had the header I would have I would have you would have had the tap in and theen tap in for sure the penalty although went the right way and it’s just the perfect penalty but I think I would have but you would keep Kane I I I I just think in these situations there’s no way you you you could drop there there’s too much importance there’s too much too much attached to this game somebody said that you know when Kane came off it was kind of like liner against Sweden Vibes um I think that’s a bit Ott but having come this far there’s I think there’s no way he drops he drops Kane so our prediction is both we’re both leading England here yes somehow they’ve been here somehow so they would win somehow I think it would be uh what an end that then Southgate can walk away into the sun sunset showing that nice guys do not always finish last [Music]
