“I’m a believer in dreams” ☁ | Gareth Southgate & Harry Kane’s FULL press conference on Euro final

you’ve got to have a clear picture of what you want to see at the end of it and um you know we we then break that Vision okay this is where we want to go and these are the details that have to be right across the last two years and the improvements that we needed to make as a team um so I I think that lights a small fire for some people for others it’s different so you’re trying to affect the whole group in different ways um but we know what it would mean to everybody at home um we know what it would mean to us as a squad the the hard work that’s gone in um not just this group of players but players that have been with us for the last six or seven years who’ve played a massive part in this journey with us um and all of the staff that have been involved it’s really been a a huge team effort all of those people have helped create the culture that we have and um yeah we we we would love to give everybody a special night again tomorrow a question for Harry Pierre from newspaper leip uh Harry did you think this last two hours about in which extent your career and maybe your life could change if you leave the trophy tomorrow um yeah I think you try not to think too much about that side of it you know uh of course I know what it mean to me and I know what it mean to our country if we we won the final so of course you have that in your mind and you use that as motivation to to try and be be successful tomorrow but um yeah I think it’s hard because you know when when we’re here and we’ve been away uh you’re kind of in your own bubble you’re kind of in your own environment and of course you see the videos and you see the fans when you arrive to games but um I think it’s really hard to tell you know uh yeah what’s going on back in back in England but I’m sure it’s uh fantastic to be a part of so um yeah from from my point of views more just you know um I’m I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to you know make a lot of people including myself happy tomorrow night and um yeah it’s going to be a big battle so um we’re going to give it everything we got and you know um at midnight tomorrow night or whenever the the game will finish you know we really hope to to be the team that’s um yeah uh bring a trophy uh to England Ben now for forun I have a question for both of you in 96 Germany won the European championship in England tomorrow 28 years later you’re playing here in Germany the final do you believe in fate you can answer that one you was you was around in 963 yeah yeah I I was around very much around uh probably one of the more popular Englishmen in Berlin I would imagine so uh yeah look I um I’m not a believer in Fairy Tales um but I am a believer in dreams dream and um we’ve had Big Dreams we’ve felt the need and the importance of that but then you know you have to make those things happen and um fate um the run that we’ve had um the uh late goals the penalties that that just that doesn’t equate to us you know it being our moment we have to make it happen tomorrow we have to perform at the level that we need to perform so um of course it would be a lovely story um but it’s in our hands and our performance that is the most important thing Harry and Rob Harrison Sky News good luck for tomorrow thank you you’ve grown up as a fan you’ve seen all the fans over the years with coming so close how desperate are you to win it for them who spent so many weeks out here invested so much to follow the team and have you spoken to the lionesses about how winning a triy like this can change the whole mindset yeah I think that from the fans point of view you know we we as all fans growing up England fans and um yeah we know we had you know some great moments and tournaments but we couldn’t quite quite get there and um yeah from my point of view just from a with a fans head on I know it’ be an incredible night if we do achieve what we want to achieve tomorrow um in terms of the lesses I haven’t spoke to to anyone um obviously what they achieved was incredible and you saw how it brought the nation together in that moment so we’re hoping to do uh do the same and um yeah we we have that opportunity tomorrow hi here aleandro dieo for one football a question for both we are talking about you’re facing one of the Spanish teams that he has been playing better in the last in the last weeks we have seen in the in this tournament what is your big biggest concern about Spanish team what is your biggest worry right now 24 hours before the final um not so much concern but um my observations on the team would be that um they have a very clear way of playing um very settled team they press really well with real intensity um of course like all Spanish teams they keep possession of the ball exceptionally well so um yeah you you have to be very well organized in the way that you play um but you know we’ve also kept the ball really well in uh in the last few matches in particular we’re showing our real selves and um the side of ourselves the version of ourselves that we wanted to bring into this tournament that’s been starting to come over the last three matches so uh I thought we were we played very very well against uh Netherlands and um that’s our intention again tomorrow night Paul Jo Paul Joy the times Harry when you look around the dressing room at your teammates what feeling do you get from them what sort of St do they give you yeah I think there’s been a of course before every tournament you have to have a belief you can win it otherwise there’s no point being in the tournament but I think that belief has grown as we’ve gone through the tournament I think um kind of what we’ve been through with the with the late goals and the penalty shootouts and all that stuff uh builds resilience it builds belief so I think um yeah I think the team is obviously uh confident but I think it’s like every game you know we we prepare in the same way we know every team we’re going to face is going to be difficult so we never take anything for granted but um yeah we know we have a lot of great players in the team we know we have a great togetherness and and we’re going to need all that and more to to be successful so um yeah from my point of view it’s great to be a part of it’s great to have that feeling I’m sure come tomorrow night there’ll be a few nerves there’ll be excitement but timately when you step out on that pitch it’s just doing your job and doing what we’ve done throughout the whole tournament he GTH Mitch Philips and Reuters a lot of people on the outside and fans were obviously hugely impressed with the Netherlands game and kind of changed their view did it how much did it change anything for you or did do you think this is what we knew we can do or was it an eye opener no I think I think we’ve um we’ve had to find a different way of playing as the as the tournaments progressed uh when we came into the tournament we had a lot of issues um particularly at the back uh in actual fact um a lot of players who had missed a lot of football um you know towards the end of the season John Stone’s hardly played for Manchester City he’s been absolutely exceptional um Mark Gay and Kieran trippier Luke Shaw all out injured for months coming towards the end of the season um so you know we’ve been trying to find the right blend and balance all the way through the summer really um lots of of um little issues to solve trying to find the best balance for our attacking players because we’ve got super Talent um but a lot that like to operate in similar areas and uh we you know we feel we’ve started to find that balance as the tournament has progressed so um I’ve really liked how we’ve looked we we look dangerous we look like we can score goals again and um yeah I’m happy where the team are at going into this game question for Gareth from nrk Norway you have a great penalty taker next to you of course but what’s been the key for you uh to perform better at penalties and who do you think deserves credit for that well a lot of people involved um in the end I believe it’s a a skill to be performed under pressure that you can practice and that you can improve um we’ve wanted to take control control of those processes feel in charge of it um it’s obviously helped by the fact that this time around we’ve got a lot more players that take penalties regularly for their clubs uh but nevertheless we we’ve now won three of our last four um which is a big shift from where we were where we’ won one in seven I think so yeah a lot of people have been involved a lot of people can um take a lot of satisfaction in that piece of work um and again we have to be ready in case that’s needed tomorrow uh Harry um I’m Carlo tler Harry last summer you moved to to Germany uh people in England started watching uh uh Bundesliga they finally found out there is football outside the Premier League now a year later you are here in Berlin almost uh share Tre treasure between England and Germany uh do you have a feeling that perhaps this uh this project Berlin started last summer already for you personally um yeah I mean it’s hard to say you know I didn’t move to B mun because of the Euros being in Germany but uh I mean the support I’ve had since I’ve been in Germany has been incredible throughout the whole season with with Bayern and and even here in the tournament you know every hotel we go to Every Stadium uh I really feel the warmth and the support not just from the English fans but from the German fans as well and um yeah I’m really appreciative of that and uh um yeah I’m sure there’s a few German fans who are wishing me well tomorrow and uh yeah as a professional you know all I can say is thank you because it means a lot to me it motivates me even more to uh to give back to all the fans that support me throughout my whole career and um you know I’ve had the guys at buying staff and players messaging me as well and uh wishing me luck so um yeah there’s a lot of people that you know support me throughout my my career and um yeah tomorrow is a great opportunity to to say thanks to to a lot of hello question for Harry I’m here hello har from the French website from um I’m sorry to ask a question like this but you’ve never won a trophy uh if it was possible would you accept to change all your top scorer trophy against this Euro and is this an extra pressure for you thank you sorry to swap the trophies for the Euros if you if I had the opportunity yeah yeah for sure yeah um no of course you know it’s um yeah it’s no secret you know that I haven’t won a team Trophy and you know every year that goes by you you’re more motivated and you’re more determined to to change that and um yeah tomorrow tomorrow night I have the opportunity to win you know one of the biggest you could ever win and and to make history with my nation which I’m extremely proud to be English so um yeah no question I’d swap everything you know I’ve done in my career to have a special night and a win tomorrow tomorrow evening but um yeah that’s not the case so it’s a lot of hard work from now until until that moment but uh yeah I’m really determined to to make tomorrow night a special one hi um question for Garett Aran Romero for Spain elmundo uh you played in the quarter final of the Euros 1996 against Spain uh what do you remember about that game and uh I don’t know if it’s any player that you remember from that match Spanish player of course I played well nil nil Defender dream um we obviously uh won that game on penalties um Nadal is the player who sticks in my mind from uh from that game in particular um maybe Kiko played as well I think uh and maybe Lis Enrique in that on the bench so um yeah I remember it was a very tough game probably a game Spain should have won and um uh but uh yeah important um day for for England our games with Spain have always been close always difficult um Spain then hadn’t had the success that they’ve had since and of course won so many tropies so uh you know we’ve we’ve met Spain not uh a lot at Youth Level as well well in in a lot of finals so we know that their development of young players has been excellent for a long time we’ve followed the project very closely seen lots of the players that are in the team now play at Junior levels um but our junior teams have also been developing and improving and now we’re starting to see those players come into the senior team as well so I think two two Nations that are on a good pathway in terms of uh now and the future a question for Harry U Ethan Finn from football Cafe media China so some of the players in the two teams are familiar with each other um so to what extent have you talk about your opponents among the team like sharing insights about how to defend them or attack them yeah not not too much uh of course there’s players that know each other from from both teams but I think you know the way we prepare is uh yeah the same for for every game and uh for threats that the team have and um you know some players like to look at individual clips of their opponents and and who they’re coming up against so um yeah you’re always talking as players anyway just in general of the game ahead and and uh the team teammates that you you might know a bit more about but ultimately you know each player does what they they want to do and prepares the way they want to prepare and then as a team we we look at everything that we can and then um yeah ultimately that’s that’s how we prepare for games right hi Garth this author renold from Holland I’m curious how do you look to the last eight years since you you have been appointed to the the major developments uh and also to the the mental resilience you increased like how do you in a nutshell uh yeah look to that um yeah I think sometimes you have to go through difficult nights as a team um we tried to change the mindset from the start we tried to be more honest about where we were as a football nation you know I’ve traveled to World Cups European championships watching as an observer and watched highlights reels before the matches that are on the big screens and we weren’t in any of them because you only show the finals and you only show the the big games so we needed to change that we had high expectations but um they didn’t match where we were performance-wise now the high expectations are still there but um we have had consistent performances over you know certainly three of the last four tournaments a quarterfinal as well in the fourth so in the end you you have to be always in the latter stages of the tournaments um to be able to learn how to win those big games and uh we’re learning that we’ve come through a lot of big nights now um you know a lot lot of records that we’ve broken but we we know in the end we have to we have to do this one we have to get this trophy um to really feel the respect of the rest of the football world I guess last four questions Ziggler sport one Israel question for har Harry Spain scored 13 goals and won all their matches everyone is talking about her being favorite do you agree with this statement yeah that’s not for you know me or the players to decide you know that’s for the media and the guys the fans to to think who are favorites but um no look they Spain have had a fantastic tournament so uh they’ve probably yeah been the best team consistency wise throughout the tournament so they probably earn that that right but um yeah as we know football you know in one game anything can anything can happen and uh we back ourselves against anyone we we play against and um yeah we’ve been through you know difficult spells in this tournament but we’ve come through the other side and that that builds a tremendous amount of belief and resilience which is everything you need in a final as well so um yeah we expect a tough game we’re in a European final so we expect nothing left and uh less and you know Spain will be difficult tomorrow night question which might be in Spanish yeah gu happy birthday to in today uh no he’s been uh a fantastic player uh I mean at 17 to do what he’s doing on this big stage is obviously a great achievement for him and um yeah he feels you can see he’s playing with no fear and just playing with freedom and enjoying the big occasion so we know he’s a definite threat for tomorrow night he’ll be uh you know one of their main players and main threats going forward so yeah we have to be ready for that but um yeah all I can say is you know well done to him for his short career so far but obviously a very good one the last few just hi y it’s me from trt sport vit you lost to Germany on penalties in uh the semi-finals in 96 your emotional looks after the match that they are still in our minds I have to say that as a coach in 21 you had a huge disappointment against Italy in vble I think you have very different and strong emotions but maybe maybe try to hide a little bit on your heart I think so uh let us know your current feelings with all your sincerity and reality I I couldn’t give you my feelings for the last three weeks never mind the last 20 years so um look um for me um those difficult nights um have taught me that football can change so quickly uh the difference between winning and losing is so small um it’s given me more perspective in my life because in the end um there are bigger things than football that are more important um but football has given me an amazing life amazing experiences travel the world be a part of something I love doing for you know nearly 35 years of my life I couldn’t have wished for anything more to represent my country um as a player and then to be able to lead my country for eight years as a manager has been the biggest privilege I could possibly have so tomorrow um I don’t have any fear of what might happen because I’ve been through everything I want the players to feel that fearlessness I want them to be able to be the best version of themselves because whatever happens we’re so strong as a group we support each other and I think if we’re not I said earlier in the tournament if we’re not afraid to lose it gives us a better chance of winning and um that’s very important for us so yeah we we’re I I’m personally excited for tomorrow um looking forward to playing in amazing Stadium it’s been a brilliant tournament I have to thank everybody here for the way the tournament has been run in Germany they’ve put on an amazing um event we’ve been made very welcome particularly in the village where we’ve been staying everybody’s been wonderful to us so we’re looking forward to this last step now question hi Gareth hi Harry uh Joe rosson Sky News Radio can you take us into the dressing room those 15 minutes before kickoff um what message will you deliver to to the squad particularly to those younger players who are experiencing this moment like a cobby Manu for the first time yeah well I think you know when you’re that close to kickoff obviously you after the warm-up you’re kind of just getting ready everything’s kind of been prepared by then everything’s been said uh I normally have the you know the final word in the Huddle before we go out and um yeah at the moment I’m not quite sure what I’ll say but I’ll think about that you know over the next 24 hours and and try and get that message right but ultimately everyone’s ready at that stage you’ve been waiting a long time you’ve been preparing you’ve done all the hard work and now it’s just about going out there and executing and um enjoying it on the pitch so um even the younger players you know a lot of them uh are feelers and a lot of them when I just get out there and they they know their best talking is with the ball at their feet and um I’m sure that’s what they’re looking forward to tomorrow night thank you very much we’ll be back shortly with lendy and thank you thank you

  1. Feels like Destiny is driving 3 🦁 to victory just like in 1966. Millions of UK kids are praying tonight to end 58 yrs of hurt felt by their dad's & grandpa's.

Dancing Spaniards have played well, but on Sunday, they will be defeated by fast, strong brave Lions.

Spanish have not faced defenders like Kyle W, Guehi, Stones, Trippier & Rice.

Defence & impact subs win cups. Really feels like Trent Pirlo, Ice Cole, Ollie, Shaw, will come on at about 60 mins to make a cup winning difference ( by replacing tiring Harry, Foden, Saka & Trippier ).

    Keep praying & meditating 🧘‍♂️ 3 🦁 & bring it home.

  2. We've had a real bit of luck for once to get to this final!!
    1. Easier qualifying group
    2. best side of draw avoiding the Big guns Italy Germany France Spain!
    3. Penaly against Holland were a gift !!!
Come on England Lets Get Real Lucky!!! and Bring home the Euro Trophy

  3. Say what you want about this man , but quarters / semis World Cup
Final / Final (at least ) is a mega achievement, he knows a hell of a lot more than a man with 8 Stella down he’s neck.
Bring it home Gareth , bring it home 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

  4. “I don’t believe in fairytales, I believe in dreams” fantastic line from Gareth. Com’on England!! Just hope we have a go tomorrow, and see what happens 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

  5. no matter the result tomorrow, were all gunna be able to watch a bloody good football match, obviously i want england to win but good luck to both sides looking forward to it!!!!!!! come on England

  6. Look, Gareth Southgate isn't for everyone but the evidence that he has progressed the England national team massively in his 8 years in charge is irrefutable. More importantly, he has also made everybody interested again.

From 1966-2017 we reached 1 Semi-final and zero finals. Since 2017 we have reached two finals, a semi-final and a Quarter-Final.

    In this Tournament alone…

    95th minute overhead kick equalisers.

    95th minute winners in a Semi-final.

5 perfect penalty kicks in a shootout.

Winning three knockout matches in a row coming from behind.

England teams have never done these things before. They've found a new tenacity and grit to get over the line and find a way to get the job done without playing near our best. Previous England teams never had that and would fold and crumble away. It feels like something special is happening and It's just 1 more step to go.
