  1. That is just an insanely high level of gamesmanship. Imagine thinking you “know” a fastball is coming and then Pedro’s utterly filthy circle change shows up instead. Incredible stuff

  2. Funny thing is, I did the same thing whenever I pitched, but more to calm down my hands from gripping the ball so tight. I even did during my delivery to change to curveball as well. Funny things can happen on the field when you try to calm the nerves lol.

  3. Prime pedro was the greatest pitcher ever. Unhittable at the height of the steroid era, under 6ft and skinny as a rail but still throwing high 90’s.

  4. Phil Niekro did the same thing with his knuckleball, he’d start off with a grip sort of like how you’d hold a palm ball. He didn’t set it and dig his nails into the cover until he swung his arm back and went into his throwing motion. Only difference is he was doing it with a pitch infinite times more difficult to throw consistently.

  5. This is the guy who took out hitters during the height of the steroid era. He not only knows how to pitch, but he also knows the "game within the game" and that makes him extra special. I think even if you drop him into today's game (especially with the 3 true outcomes types of players dominating the league now), he would be even more dominant.

  6. Watching Pedro care up batters must have been what it was like watching Picasso paint. He was the perfect combination of craftiness and electric stuff.

  7. I grew up in southern Maine so I've been a Sox fan since '75, when I was eight. I feel so lucky to have been able to watch Pedro pitch every 5 days for so long, he is greatly loved

  8. I thought everyone did that. I always set the ball up in my glove as a 2 seam and would find my slider or curve while going over my head. its no harder than an infielder finding a 4 seam grip to throw to first after fielding the grounder. in fact its easier as you know the exact orientation of the ball to start with
