It's mad how people think this crazy. Do players look at the ball whe they are playing a pass? No. The ball isn't moving.. You're 12 yards out aiming at goal 24ft wide and 8ft tall,

Legend has it he can read a book, play connect 4, and hit a bullseye without looking.
So if he missed what would the Coverage be? and Micheal Owen being Amazed at his technique give me break.
Many footballers took penalties before and after with same technique ,Skysports acting like his never missed one – stop being stupid.
