Ronaldo is far too self absorbed to realise that he is the problem. They are too scared to drop him but he doesn’t do anything other than score and he is causing the problem. They are so simple to defend against. The same thing happened to utd . He might have scored 20 goals but he didn’t do anything else. They might have scored 30 if they were able to play with more variety. How he is still on the free kicks when he’s not scored any from 60 attempts is ridiculous
In my opinion Martínez was conditioned for this though… the previous manager was sacked not because they lost in the WC but because he dared to bench Ronaldo (which was the right move at the time)… I think this and any future failures of the Portugal team are entirely the fault of their federation. They are choosing Ronaldo over the team.
These guys are actual mothers. Coddling their precious superstars and blaming everyone else except their superstar. Ronaldo carried a far worse Portugal side to the semis in the World Cup than this current squad. No excuses for him to have not stepped up and deliver

It's more Ronaldo's fault. Too self centered, yelling at his teammates for not passing him the ball… bunch of BS. Portugal's players couldn't express themselves on the pitch because everything must go through Ronaldo and they paid the price. If Portugal played without Ronaldo, they would have gone further.

Messi is a creative cerebral player, so even though he has aged he can still play through-balls between the lines and make those decisive passes. Messi also has a team that will run through walls for him. CR7 however, was a superb player who harnessed his athleticism and physical attributes. The issue is, as he gets older these characteristics wane rapidly and hence his timing and coordination is all off. It also means he cannot press, run-in behind, maintain shooting power and accuracy etc.
He should retire gracefully, like Ibrahimovic. Cristiano's tears are for himself and the personal realisation, which he is struggling to accept, that he is no longer what he once was. His narcissistic behaviour ruined Portugal's tournament this year.
Of course Martínez didn't substitute Ronaldo…because Ronaldo and his manager Mendes were the ones who hired him.

Thinking too much about Ronaldo? He was playing alone in the front, most of his career he was never a striker, even in his prime at 2013/2014 Paulo Bento said it was out of question to play Ronaldo alone as a number 9 striker, imagine now that he's old. I still believe in him and hope he can make it to 2026 WC and finally win it, but until Martinez open his eyes and realize he can also play 2 in the front, there will be no miracles. Portugal only knows how to pass the ball, Martinez says he want to play pretty but the one who wins is the one who scores the most
