Will Kobbie Mainoo start for England against Slovakia in their Euro 2024 round of 16 match?
so disappointment in the cricket then and some people will tell you it’s not much better in the football but let’s be honest England are still very much in the Euros they face Slovakia if they win that they’re in the quarterfinals that game against Slovakia is this Sunday yes after an underwhelming group stage I think that’s fair to say comparisons have been made with 2016 when England suffered arguably their biggest humiliation in a major tournament losing to Iceland in their first knockout game Mark Gay insists there’ll be no complacency against Slovakia the best teams in the tournament yeah I’ve said it in just other questions as well I think every single team is a threat and it’s it’s understanding that and it’s being mindful of that um and going into these games with that same Focus um so I think if we do that we’ll we’ll be okay we haven’t done any team analysis on them but we all watch the games and we know they’re really good sides um obviously coming I think it was third in the group they they qualified um but yeah they’ve got some really good players in their team leot and one um the obvious one from Napoli um but a lot of good players um you know I think it’s just going to be another tough tough opponent tough challenge to deal with um but it’s important that we just have to be ready for those challenges and and match whatever intensity they’re going to bring England do have a lot of players the kind of borderline age in their career in terms of kind of being considered still an element of kind of promising Talent not yet fully fulfilled to kind of really Senor players in their Prime and and maybe that’s something we have to see on Sunday and again there’s there’s so many Echoes here given um it’s it’s such a kind of call back to Euro 2016 as well so England Drew nil all with Slovakia in that tournament before a last 16 game that was seen as um as very winnable with a lot of kind of tension and issues swirling around the team so there are echoes but England it’s a bit of a fork in the road moment well it is perhaps the lowest point in football history for England their recent memory their shock exit at the hands of Iceland at the same stage of the tournament back in 2016 and uh when you look at the path towards that game it was fairly similar in The Knockouts England struggling through the group they were expected to do well there and at least on paper anyway this time around England will want to do better than their counterparts of eight years ago and we all remember how that turned out it’s been the perfect response you’d think that no problem start again keep dominating keep getting uh pressure on the Iceland backf the only thing that they have got is the big boy up front sigon who really Sig thorsson oh my words oh play don’t just like don’t worry don’t worry not many people will have seen it went absolutely everywhere incredible dear well plenty of decisions ahead for Gareth Southgate ahead of England’s last 16 game against Slovakia perhaps none more crucial than who will start in Midfield could kobby Mayu be handed a starting place he impressed after coming on at halime against Slovenia replacing Conor Gallagher now just a quick comparison then of of Manu and Gallagher from Tuesday night now they both had a half each didn’t they uh we can take a look at their pass Maps here gallager uh very much concentrated down the right hand side of the field as you can see um whereas uh as you can see with Mayu he popped up all over the pitch and only gave the ball away once in the whole game as well there we go that’s uh that one there there wasn’t many for gallager I think that’s three in total uh but Rob Dorset our reporter with England believes that Mayu has made the best case of the options available to South Gate for a man who’s playing his first ever major tournament you have to say that was really really impressive and so if I had to make a bet at this stage I would suspect that kobby Maya is probably England’s best answer in the middle of Midfield right now and I think that’s what G Southgate thinks right now as well but much could change over the next few days and the coming days so too early to say what we might expect from the starting 11 but certainly kobby Mayu has made a very strong case for it and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he got the nod to start England’s last 16 game on Sunday the Southgate will also be boosted by their Phil foden who returned to Camp yesterday after the birth of his third child congratulations uh to Phil foden and his partner well if that trip down memory lane a little earlier to 2016 didn’t put a shiver down your spine then this might because England’s dreaded penalty record at major tournaments makes for worrying reading though they have won two out of three under G Southgate we all remember the one they lost so don’t we in the final anyway let’s not talk about that uh fans could also be encouraged by the technique of some of the players in the squad particularly Mark Gay went viral for a no look one step penalty that he took during his time in the Chelsea Youth Academy but the question is would he be willing to pull that trick out of the bag in such a big game never never never ever again well I think us going to stay wherever it is um like you say if Keepers you know have a look on the internet um I don’t think they’re you know searching me up on Google or anything anyway but um uh but yeah that’s just going to stay where it is never I don’t think it’s going to come out ever again to be honest have you practiced any penalties for for the threat of a penalty shootout yet yeah yeah yeah we’ve been doing a lot of work um I think the work’s going really well um across the team of the penalties um you know it’s important to make sure that you’re ready well penalties are required this could be a case for encouragement because Slovakia and Newcastle goalkeeper Martin de Brava isn’t exactly renowned as being a penalty saving specialist he saved just 15% of his spot kicks that he’s faced in his career this is from his last four seasons in the Premier League and for Slovakia and he seems to have a weakness with all seven of the penalties down his right hand side going in [Music]

Should he start yes will he start no
Way to the Final dear England 🙏🫡🫡🔥🔥🔥
Starting 11: gk Pickford , lb trippear , cb stones , cb gueih , rb trent (walker’s pressing has kind of cost us) Cdm rice , cm , mainoo, cam/cf Bellingham , lw Gordon , rw saka , st Kane
Mainoo and Palmer if they start and score the internet will be war between Chelsea and United😂😂😂
0-0 after full-time and extra time
England lose on penalties
Sky sports doing their absolute best to get Southgate sacked
You guys dont know Gareth Southgate yet? Southgate is going to start with Trent Alexander Arnold in the midfield alongside Declan Rise. England wil defend for 90 minutes
Why can't mainoo, Gordon,Saka and Trent all start together 😢
What can lazy rice do?
Walker should be LB, TAA should be RM, Mainoo in MF and Palmer as RW….. ffs drive forward considering the opposition will sit deep…
The main issue is our lack of goals, or even shots. Any team, like Slovenia did, can set a low block against us, which would take it to penalties, and then it’s 50/50.
Southgate can't manage technical players, he proved it with that Kalvin Phillips comment. Wont be surprised if Gallagher starts
Maybe if England put as much effort into practicing penalties as they do taking the knee they might actually be better at them.
Gareth sucks new manager asap
No, overrated
Proper English name that 😂
From the people of Scotland…
Hope you get well and truly pumped !!!
I don't get why Wharton hasn't got any game time. He's what England are lacking in a creative midfielder.
Without F⚽️DEN Ur England 🏴 ALREADY HOME 🏠‼️🙄😆
The simple question to this possibility of starting with Kobbie Mainoo is, why him? What does he bring to the game? Why can't the likes of Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Phil Foden be more appropriate with excellent physicality, speed, individual skills and game experience apart form tactical know how's for the team? Why can't Gareth Southgate attend a game management refresher session, and think outside the box?
To move forward and be Impactful, Southgate need to be adventurous, and be bold enough to make changes addressing the weakness in his team formation.
1. Which team formation is most effective to apply for the game against a well drilled in defense opponent, the Slovaks? 4-3-3 instead of 4-2-3-1 is the answer.
2. Use Foden on the left back position in the 4-3-3 formations capitalizing on the formation's advantage in rapid build up, utilizing Foden's ball skills, versatility as well as his superb passing and game reading capabilities;
3. Let Alexander Arnold play on the right back, to pair with Foden's speed in building up the game, send deadly crosses into the opponent's box, and be able to defend with speed and physicality.
4. Let caption Kane to have a little bit of rest. Start with Watkins to pair the attack with Gordon and Saka or Palmer. Let Bellingham play the #10 position upfront, the key midfield attacking player who uses the ball well in the final third space of the field, mastering control and pace of the game in offensive play.
The frailties of Kane, dropped in form and stamina has been alarming. Because Kane isn't performing as EVERYONE expecting, to spearhead attacks, lead the rest of the team in aggressiveness and being ruthless in front of the goal, he should only come onto the field as a sub on the bench.
It's time for Southgate to make a call. Typical stereotype game management style will only bring disasters. Exit at group of 16 is NOT far fetched.
If Southgate could clone 11 Harry Maguires the rest would've history 😂
England 😂 😂 😂 pass Slovakia and Italy is waiting. Might as well go home now
