Simon Jordan INSISTS The NEW FORMAT Of Euro 2024 Is UNFAIR & Benefits TOO Many Teams ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ”ฅ

good morning everybody uh Simon a bit of a change this morning yesterday 29 degrees today it’s a bit like it was in Munich isn’t it not quite as cold um and the Sun is it’s trying to break through but definitely nowhere near the intense heat that we had yesterday that we soldiered through without a single complaint we did indeed we didn’t mention it once we never referred to the heat during the entire show Once yeah yeah we’ll be referring to the draftiness of the lake surroundings on a number of occasions this morning bit of sunshine actually as we speak so that is good good morning everybody here we are again this is our 13th show Simon indeed uh unlucky for some um yep we are back at the SE restaurant here in dorf it’s a beautiful Lakeside scene many people Gathering having breakfast the breakfast looks sumptious uh I have to say and you can watch us on YouTube and Facebook because as always you can watch the show as well as listen to it um rumor has it you were racing around dorf in a scooter last night I was I was I um I was parading around not parading but trying to find somewhere around the streets that didn’t involveed eating that I’m fed up with Hotel food and I bumped into young Pat D’Angelo and off we went into the night Pat D’Angelo um well he’s a brilliant producer in his own mind all right um and we were scooting around trying to find ice creams and all manner of things right whil you out hobnobbing with management and Luke you stayed on the scooter you didn’t come off it like Anthony Gordon did of course not no no no high performing athletes like myself and Pat were like like a blur through the night and I you’ve had quite a morning because I I see a sizable elasa plast in the back of your hand yes so what what happened I I I saw you being tended to by uh someone from first aid over there do you want do you want um the real version yes right the real version is is I don’t wear my Underpants more than once so I bought 25 pairs of Underpants I’ve worn them all once and I realized I needed to throw them away so I found a bin in the park with all my Underpants try to push them in and caught my hand on the top of the lid let me get this right you you only wear a pair of drawers you only wear your underwear once correct once you haven’t heard of lres or or washing Machin one of my little fbls and peculiarities one of your little one of your many uh fairly enough though this is the second you’re welcome to hand wash them if you want you want to fish them out of the bin and and parade around them fill your boots I’m in room 1318 you should have dumped them on me uh it’s the second Ru tag uh of the tournament the second rest day as they say here in Germany and then we’re building up uh to the the last 16 games where every one of which will be live on talk sport um and of course on Sunday we know that England going against Slovakia that’s the earlier kickoff time on Sunday the later one is Spain against Georgia samon we have a lot to get through this morning we’re going to Darren B is going to be joining us on set joining us from Frankfurt on Zoom is one Martin Keon ah we haven’t seen him for a while we haven’t seen him for a for quite a while uh and he has a lot to get off his chest about the tournament about England about a variety of things so Martin is going to be joining got his wall chart with him he’s got his wall chart I have a wall chart I have to say and I found it very useful in the in in the piece and quiet of my room I’ve been filling in the scores at night and I’ve been plotting what happens next it is quite useful Is It Anyway what do you care you going home today indeed I am yeah indeed I am like while I while are ye coyote I’m out of here yeah yeah and and what do you take what Memories will you take with you well my over overriding memory and my most happiness my most happiest is watching that cocky little orc of a producer fold like a cheap deure when he lost his mobile phone and was in an absolute state of disarray almost crying like a little baby because he subsequently couldn’t find his phone was worried about all the pictures of his wife that won’t be able to see yeah no that was quite a moment back in Munich uh when we had to call the taxi driver and say please come back uh producer Luke’s mobile phone is in the back seat of your car back no we’ve had quite a time out here uh producer Luke myself assistant producer Joe therefore forementioned Pat Joe Finn we will all carry on it gets to the business end of the tournament and we’ll see what England are made of we’ll see if england go all the way finals bound and we’ll be here to see it let me put this to you though Simon the 24 team Euros is a flawed format I would suggest it is should it soon become a thing of the past I would suggest that it should let me explain you UEFA expanded the Euros from 16 to 24 teams in 2016 meaning the four best third place sides qualify along first alongside first and second from each of the six groups to make up the 16 Team Knockout phase but there’s been much debate rumbling since the conclusion of the groups about the unfairness of the Euros format um it suggested Simon that due to the final group games not taking place on the same night at the same time sporting Jeopardy and sporting Integrity is it’s hard to argue against this um it’s like a let me it’s like a relegation race if you like back home say Burnley and Sheffield United are in that relegation race Burnley plays Saturday Sheffield United plays Sunday but Sheffield United know what they have to do um everyone of course knew this before they came into the tournament and the motivation I mean underlying this is the reasons why they changed and what the thought processes were for this and how the change has benefited the commercial revenues which I would imagine were the core principle behind going from 16 to 24 sides because of the commercial opportunities around it so whilst I understand the principle and the lessons May well be learned that actually it provokes this sort of argument everyone knows what they’ve got to do everyone’s in the end it comes comes down to your own ability I mean Scotland would have taken it every day of the week and twice on Sunday to have come third out of the group whereever irrespective of what points total someone else got in a different group whenever they played so in the end it still comes down to what people have to do themselves but I do understand the principle of it creating a degree of controversy because whatever is the reason that people can attribute to their lack of success they’ll find a mechanism to pull that lever and say aha the unfairness of the format um the idea I mean I think it I think it’s relatively ridiculous out 14 that three can qualify from a group anyway well that’s it that’s almost like a participation medal isn’t it you’re almost in that teritory and the only alternative is to go to a 32 team um tournament and then you’re all of a sudden you’re looking at the Quality side of things are there 32 teams we have this debate about the World Cup about how many more teams can you squeeze in before you start to degrade some of the competition that’s a good point but would it be fairer Simon I mean eight groups of 432 um first and second from every group it would make it simpler it wouldn’t it wouldn’t be as it is now possibly and then you imagine there wouldn’t be that much resistance from from UEFA because a more teams b means more Revenue but then comes the quality argument and of course you can always look at the coefficient values of things when you start to get teams seeded to go into groups and find themselves in a situation where they avoid stiff competition yeah in England’s performance over recent years has enabled them to be in a group that they should have strolled through in terms of the compet competency of the opposition and in part there part of me that thinks well actually seeding shouldn’t play a part in a group stage tournament where ultimately you get into tournament and you get drawn out of a hat and whoever you play is whoever you play but we know that part of that is the thinking that the moment it gets a knockout stages you want the big teams in the tournament sure it but it is pretty nuts I mean look at group E it saw a strange situation Ukraine became the first team in history not to qualify despite achieving Four Points Four Points got them fourth in their group so they were eliminated despite having got more points than some third place teams who have now reached the last 16 Slovenia get three points and they play this week you have to bake that into the opposition that you’re playing so if you’ve got a more competitive group I mean England have won their group with five points and other teams have won their group with nine points or seven points Germany winning theirs with seven points yeah um so with due respect to the points total you can only compare that to the opposition that you’re playing and what your group that you’re doing in otherwise what is the point of a group stage I mean the third place argument to me is the debate really because what are we doing with third place what are we really suggesting that you three teams out of four can qualify from a group it’s a team again like I just said a participation medal we’re we’re rewarding failure though aren’t we in what kind of well in a well okay you got a factor in the opposition so the fact that one side got four points in a group in a fiercely competitive group and a group stage that it is I mean you could make that argument about the Champions League when people come out the Champions League group and they come in there’s one group over here that gets topped with x amount of points and one group over here gets second with x amount of points it is there is a similarity but the champions league is first and second granted and that’s granted but but the fact is that a second place team will be drawn against another side and a second place team might get really high points in one total and and exceed the first placees points in another group would you consider it’s flawed I don’t look I think it is what it is and I think that ultimately everybody knew what it was before they went in look it is what it is because it is what it is but is it flawed but I suppose with the benefit of hindsight you can look at it and say it’s less than ideal um and then you when you get into the no because we are always wise after the event no one said this before the event right so everyone sits there and goes tell you what I’ll be the smart ass in the room and say aha it’s flawed actually I think Sam matus to be fair I think Sam was saying they could run it before the tournament St met face that this isn’t going to be a good look if certain things happen I mean Scotland could have drawn against Hungary Simon but they they wouldn’t have known that they were through until three days later no I get I get that there is an element of that you you want instantaneous uh gratification or outcomes so it’s a Level Playing Field yeah so in that side of things that you I can understand the principles if you’re arguing about the reality of a team getting four points finishing bottom of a group and a another team in a group getting three points getting out of it I think there’s less of an argument there but I do think the argument surrounding the sporting Integrity of everybody at the same moment in time yeah playing in in in a certain set of scenario so everybody knows where they are at that given time I think that has Merit and perhaps they have to think about that but of course Along Comes Who runs broadcasters economically so the broadcasters don’t want that because they want to be able ble to draw out the content have be have the ability to be able to set ad sell ad rolles maybe the broadcasters would would want more games Simon and maybe they will a tournament could work but then the argument will be if you’ve got a bunch of pdly Pop Nations that can’t hold a candle to a decent competitive game then they won’t be achieving very much no that respect in terms of people want to watch it y yeah so it’s uh Friday morning um we have this fellow in studio on a Friday when we’re back in London so why not have him here in dorf Martin Keon arsal Invincible no less will be joining us next here uh on this beautiful Lakeside scene in dorf good morning everybody good morning 1. The point is that it's a lot of group games to eliminate only a few teams.

This Format has been used in a couple of World Cup's, so it's not like people are not totally aware of the flaws of this system.

  2. I โค Simon & White soccer chats on 3 ๐Ÿฆ. Copy Klopp & Messi Monster Mentality, "u will sweat buckets for 1 hr, & then 3 boys come off & fresh legs in last 30 mins & AET. "To make the press even more intense, be like monsters & ๐Ÿฆ Lions hunting prey."
We will make slick passes & 1-2s faster. We will make energetic smart runs behind rivals CBs to receive Trents lovely defence splitters like Pirlo to Del Piero & Totti in 2006 or Hoddle to Lineker & Ian Wright.

Also, listen to Ben Foster about Pickfords stupid long balls to rivals CBs, which is a huge worry. That's not Gareths fault if the GK does stupid long balls. I want Ben Foster back as GK.
Watch Capello's chat to Kaveh Solekah of Sky. Don Fabio mostly blamed JP for all 3 defeats in the last 3 cups. Especially Euro Final at Wembley.
Also, Didi Haman ripped apart JPs lack of clam smart distribution.

Gareth must wait until last min to select KO Ro16 team as he won't know until Sunday 09.30am (0r 15.30pm) how fit the front 4 stars really are!

Pray & meditate & on Sunday our 3 lions ๐Ÿฆ pride will rise in victorious KO stages battles, growing game by game. Enjoy getting to the KO stage.

There's no need to take hasty decisions. Wednesday to Saturday is a time to enjoy the T20 World Cup & the rise of Emma Radacanu & Draper in Tennis.
Its a time to pray & and meditate,
& to get the body fully fit & the mind fully focussed.

Then, on Sunday, the 3 ๐Ÿฆ pride will rise to do battle like 1966 boys. Gareth will have a good plan sorted on Sunday.
Don't bash em. Just pray and meditate to make lots of good luck karma.

Butter proved he is not a Skipper like Stokes or Vaughan. Sad to get thrashed in the semi by India. But their 3 Sikh bowlers are amazing, Jasprit & Arshdeep & Kuldeep.

  3. Give England, Ireland, N Ireland, Scotland, Wales automatic qualification and make it 32 for euro 28. It's only 4 extra qualification spots

  4. Could it be said that with this format lower ranking teams are sitting back in games. ( parking the bus. ) in the hope of getting a point, leading to boring negative football.

  5. 32 teams would be better. Look at this year. Add sides like;
    Sweden
    Norway
    Finland
    ROI
    N Ireland
    Wales
    Russia
    Greece etcโ€ฆโ€ฆ

    Will not weaken the tournament.

  6. I am happy with the 24 team tournament and the teams that went through. The teams that didn't make it, have no excuse.

Some of the lower ranked teams were the better teams to watch. Georgia, Romania etc

  7. My suggestion would be to have 4 groups with 6 teams per group; the top two teams from each group would then play quarter finals (A1 vs. B2; B1 vs. A2; C1 vs. D2; D1 vs. C2). It would mean that each team in the group stage plays two games more than they do now (i.e. five per team) but that there is one fewer knock-out round. In total there would be 67 games whereas there are currently 51 games. This is because there would be 60 – 36 = 24 more games in the group stage but 8 knock-out games fewer since there would be no "Round of 16".
