Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed some disturbing news for West Ham fans surrounding Mohammed Kudus‘ Hammers contract.

It is an open secret in football circles that Kudus has an £85m release clause in his West Ham contract. However, it was believed to be active only for one month in July 2025, during next year’s summer transfer window.

But now, Sky Germany’s transfer ITL Plettenberg has dropped the bombshell that the Ghanaian’s release clause is active NOW!

t’s a massive shift from what was being reported only a matter of weeks ago and what Claret & Hugh had been led to believe. It should be pointed out that West Ham’s policy with Lucas Paqueta was to include the clause on the second year of the players contract. Therefore it’s difficult to believe that Kudus’ deal would be any different.

Speaking on his social media account, Plettenberg said:
“Currently, there are no concrete offers for Mohammed Kudus on the table. Kudus has a release clause of £85 million this summer. Contract valid until 2028.

Internally, the 23-year-old winger has not yet indicated that he definitely wants to leave the club.”

Comfort can be taken from the fact that Kudus has not asked for a move away from East London. Unfortunately, the stark reality is that if anyone bids £85m for the player, then the club will be duty-bound to inform him.

If true, this will come as a bitter blow for the Hammers hierarchy who are already attempting to fend off interest in Edson Alvarez from Manchester United.

We can only hope that Plettenberg is poorly briefed or has his wires crossed, but considering he is one of Tim Steidtens‘ regular journalists it is a concern.

  1. Why can’t West Ham have respect for the fans and just tell the truth about players who are for sell and have a clause in their contract from the start, it’s a stepping stone for the player and a profit for the club just tell us from the start, this why West Ham are saying that they have no money only a rumour ? I just hope West Ham board knows you need fans to run a football club

  2. I started the summer quite excited and optimistic about our transfer business this summer and the season ahead. But day by day, that enthusiasm is waining and Im getting more frustrated and annoyed at all these negative stories that are beginning to come out eg Kudus, transfer budget, Paqueta etc. Strange that they have come out after the season ticket renewal deadline 🤷‍♂️

  3. Hope he doesn't go, but as per Eddie Alvarez interest, he can be replaced. And re Chelsea not affording Olise, it wasn't the transfer fee it was the £220k/wk wages they weren't having. Matias Soule would be a great replacement no???

  4. Since when is Plettenberg labeled as ' TOP JOURNALIST' ?? He was the only who only said that there was 40m option to buy for Phillips and later he was proven wrong, Same he said about Scammaca that there 25m + 5m add ons, which later those add ons has been again proven wrong, he maybe reliable about transfers but when it comes to clauses he got many wrong.

Just like many journalist he also gets many wrong until Fabrizio and Ornstein confirm it, i don't believe anybody. Specially Ornstein who doesnt miss when it comes to Premier League. If he said that release clause is active next summer , then i wont believe anything else.

  5. I don't get how people are acting as if he's gone already? £85 is A LOT of money, that only a handful of clubs would be able to pay. I would be SHOCKED if he left this summer.

  6. Makes sense why we been looking at so many wingers…gutted if the only kudos westham see is under moyes. Would love to see him in a team with more of the ball and playing in a more positive team

  7. Release clauses incase we didnt get Europe ! Then we Should of sacked him long before end of contract , have we just wasted a whole season ? so angry if thats the case Geo ….

  8. Sounds like our top players will go, and we will be left with championship players. Cant see this club ever doing anything while sullivan is here. Potential buyers for the club dont seem to be interested.

  9. If anyone is willing to pay high fees to activate any clauses for our players, they're likely heading to a Champions League club. I don't think we can stand in the way of player ambitions. If they achieve their aim, that means they have fulfilled their end of the bargain performing for us. It's up to Tim to unearth the next. The fear previously came from selling top players with no plans on how to replace them.

  10. Geo, I like that you included screenshots of tweets in the video. You guys should do that more often, put screenshots of the tweets/news so we the viewers can also see. Cheers!

  11. Yes you’re right, if in fact it is true then we cannot budge from the release clause, as the buying team would have to stump all the cash upfront!.. I think teams will offer less so to pay over yearly installments. So I hope we remain firm on the price !

  12. Not ideal either way, we either lose Kudos or have no money? I know the club couldn’t legislate for the Paquetta problem but you still feel years of mismanagement under Moyes and Sullivan have left us in a precarious position.
At least I have the England game to look forward to, oh wait, Southgates still in charge, summer officially ruined 🤣

  13. There’s only one,,, constant ,,,,,in all these transfer,, the good ones,,, not many,, the bad ones,, loads of them,, the ugly ones , I lost count a long while ago ,is David Sullivan

  14. His release clause is not active now, not sure where this story comes from and why people believe it to be true? Anyone wanting him before that will have to pay considerably more

  15. Geo, I am NOT saying Kudus will be sold or even wants to leave WH but….. I believe we NEED an added £60 mil to sign SOME of the players we need to strengthen. I will include Bowen in that to. Unfortunately, Edison has the hamstring issue & Paqman transfer has major challenges.

  16. What I don’t get about the the notion of Lucas‘s potential ban scuppering just Summers financial plans is, West Ham have known about the FA investigation for a year, or longer. Surely they’ve had an alternate plan in case Paqueta is found guilty. Also, how does selling Kudus help improve the team? 85 million doesn’t buy you a whole lot these days. Half of that would go to Kilman. So does having a squad with fewer new players but with Kudus in the team worse or better than a team with no Kudus and a few unproven players?
When you say, we might consider bids for Kudus to help us get where we want to be, my concern is that we are where we want to be. We’recomfortably mid table, safe with FFP, not signing any STARZ, just turning this team into a cash cow to help milk the fans. I don’t think we are interested in going back to Europe.

  17. The hierarchy at West Ham are compulsive liars.
You literally can’t trust a word out of their mouths
Total contempt for the fan base.
They’ve been exposed time & time again, but have absolutely no shame.
    Shocking way to behave.

  18. With Sully at the helm & his newfound FPS excuse, he can do what he’s already done. Balance the books.
He’s never spent money without selling someone to even it up.
    Why would he change now.

  19. I believe the new Brazilian lad was brought to replace kudus, but at the end of next season giving him a year to bed in and find his feet. Will we sell him? For 85 million? Absolutely. This club is still run by Sullivan and if we are as skint as he is getting his bitches to pedal then it all makes sense. worried.

  20. A consistent theme throughout my time supporting West Ham, is the lack of monies to complete the building of a team that challenged the 'big boys'. At times we were three or four players short of realising our dreams (last year as an example). I therefore have no problem if, in the short term, say 3-4 years, we continued to sign, then sell our top players for handsome profits, if it finally gives us the opportunity to complete our rebuilding. As long as we can see clear progression, then fine. Painful as it will be to see Kudus play elsewhere.

  21. If we sell our best players we might as well pack up and give up trying to push on and becoming a consistent top 6 club 🤬🤬🤬

  22. We're in an odd position with a massive asset set possibly to become worthless, so I guess it would make sound financial and footballing sense to make a quick 50 million profit on Kudus and we have the scouting nous to turn it into a positive…

  23. Yes our defense has been crap last season but are we inclined to sell our most promising efficient attackers (where we lack) to get defenders? The money seems an issue indeed 🫢
