I think he'll eventually renew his contract with Juventus but if he doesn't for whatever reason than signing Rabiot in a free ( on reasonable wages ) wouldn't be a bad bit of business especially with finances being restrictive. Fofana 25m & Rabiot on a free would vastly improve our midfield
Why are there rumors that we only have 35 million? Why is it so low? Last 2 seasons we have now freed up salaries of: Ronaldo, De Gea, Martial, Varane etc..
Plus there are many players we can sell this window, Sancho, Greenwood, Maguire, Casemiro, and more.. Surely the budget is gonna be a lot higher than 35 million otherwise we wouldn't be making bids from Branthwaite already.

If he's on a free and doesn't cost a fortune in wages (I would think the 180-220k mark is about what he's worth) then I'd go for it and offload one of Eriksen or Casemiro, my pref being Eriksen due to Casemiro still being the only recognized and accomplished n°6 in the squad. Rabiot won't be happy with a 6 role, and we won't get the best out of him or Kobbie by putting them there. We should also consider that an 8 shouldn't be a priority. We already have Kobbie, Eriksen, McTominay, Mount and Bruno who can play in that role, be it their best/ preferred position or just gap filler we have players who can play there.
What Steve said about his mum is also true. I believe she's his agent, and she believes him to be one of the best in the world in his position. I spent 10 years in France and I can tell you that anyone who follows football thinks that Rabiot's mum is both comical and problematic. She's had falling outs with other parents and players around the French National squad and PSG, including Mbappe, which most accept as a reason for him having left PSG as she was asking for outrageous terms in his contract. She tends to blow up her son's ego a lot, and honestly acts like the bloke is on the level of Zidane or Kroos.
All of this would have to be managed, easier said than done, but if could come into United and hit the ground running, giving us a more combative and forward thinking midfield then go for it. But I would much rather personally we pick up a deputy for Casemiro on a free, or a young fella for pennies, and give Mainoo the 8 role for his own. Like I said, we have Scotty, Mount, Eriksen or Bruno that can also cover that role. No replacement for Casemiro other than asking someone to fill in (probs Kobbie, potentially stifling his progression).
A recognized n°6, central defender, right winger and a striker. Those are the areas crying out for new signings. Rabiot feels like a gamble for an already overly saturated area of the pitch, as well as being potentially problematic with squad drama, wages etc if ever he's not of the right level for week-in week-out Premier League games (no guarantee either). I would tread carefully.
Rabiot looks like another Casemiro transfer gone wrong. He is 29. In another year or so, his form and fitness would jump off Mount Kilimanjaro. Why can't we ever think of longevity when planning transfers. I hope INEOS don't go down the Rabiot rabbit hole for all of our sakes.

Getting rabiot on a free then getting Alvarez and then signing amrabat on a permanent deal could be key for developing mainoo and getting profits for outgoings wilist getting upgrades for mctomnay, erikson and Casemiro is excellent options instead of going all in for joa Neves could be a smarter option in my opinion that means we will only spend 70 million for 2 midfielders ie amrabat and Alvarez then rabiot on a free that’s a bargain wilist adding depth into the squad rabiot and Alvarez could be upgrades to erikson and Casemiro i think they will help mainoo to develop
