Fernando Santos stepped down after Portugal was eliminated by Morocco in the World Cup quarterfinals.
The news of the coach’s resignation was released by the Portuguese Football Federation.
The 68-year-old Santos had been admit that he would not be forced out of the job he has held for eight years despite Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to the history-making Moroccans in Qatar.
He accepted to resign that not everyone agreed with his decisions during the World Cup which included dropping Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench in the later matches.
Many fans believe Fernando Santos did a bad decision in this worldcup that cost to Portugal and also affect to Cristiano Ronaldo greatest career.
There is no information yet on who will be the new coach of the Portugal team.
