here’s the man in the drop zone at the moment trying to make it through Daniel Ricardo demotes Fernando Alonso at the moment but Ricardo is vulnerable and this is the driver being cheered around the final sector of the racetrack he’s out of the heavy breaking zone of turn 10 he’s made his way now to the fast sweepers of 13 and 14 qualifying didn’t go to plan for Fernando Alonzo last year but this year he will make it through with a lap at the end to go to Ninth Place and it will mean that those behind will have to respond Pierre gazley good form here in practice good form in qualifying it’s Ricardo Albin who are heading out at the moment and then is L stroll going to be able to follow his teammate into the next part of qualifying and demote Nico hulkenberg stroll manages to do it and hulkenberg so strong over one lap normally is into the Drop Zone Yuki Coda can’t get there he is the lead vcob on the grid but he’s only 16th across the line hulkenberg strikes back and eliminates his teammate with a strong lap magnuson’s not on a push at all and so Logan Sergeant the only driver who can yet change this order that is Magnuson codre ahead of Ricardo Alvin down in 19th Place Logan Sergeant to the line he improves his time not his position Magnuson sonoda Ricardo Alvin and Sergeant fall at the first herdle so strollers in the pit Lane he’s out along with hulkenberg everyone else pushing on trying to find a lap time that gets them into the top 10 shootout and Pierre gazley has given himself a great chance good feel all weekend long Perez’s lap is ahead of both alpines that will be a relief to him as he tries to return to Q3 for the first time since Miami and it’s on board then with Fernando Alonso past the grand stands that have been cheering for him all the way through the weekend he is a two-time winner around this circuit can he find a time to get him through it’s going to be close to the line he just misses out by 100th of a second and Alonzo will not make the top 10 shootout at his home race disappointment for him Max a STA and top but Alonzo botas hulkenberg the other Aston Martin of STW and the other Sala of Joe are out in the second part of qualifying he’s attacking right now on the first of two push laps that he will get in this Q3 session trying to return to Pole Position yeah and I believe this is a new set of tires where Perez was on a scrubbed set but immediately we see signs couple of T quicker in the first sector alone so this is going to have to be Mighty second and third uh opening sectors to secure a front row 11 six a little bit down on the fastest we’ve seen so far in this session and then SS has gone a couple of tents slower in the middle sector so the two he gained in the first he’s given away in the second it is so evenly matched Aon goes to second place but the man from Madrid trying to displace for stappen in Barcelona and he’s 2 and 1 half t0 of a second away piastri is into third place we have L Norris attacking the racetrack into turn number nine we have shla Clair about to send it through the left-hander of turn number seven and we join Lando Norris who has one Formula 1 pole position to his name but that second sector might set up an opportunity to change all of that the final part of the lap is crucial for which part of the car you’ve kept with the tires have you kept the tires in the working range are they fading underneath you gaz’s ahead of okon in the Alpine battle they’re both ahead of Perez Norris to the line into second place he’s a tenth away from ven’s Benchmark I tell you what though Lewis Hamilton he’s up but it’s at 2/3 distance George Russell is up it’s at 2/3 distance sh Clair has been the lead Ferrari on the grid for the last five Grand Prix in a row not so at the moment he’s marginally behind so it’s Red Bull then McLaren then Ferrari here come the Mercedes Lewis Hamilton to third what about George Russell on Pole Position last time and that final sector just shows you the different strengths of the cars at different points of the lap Russell is right there piastri is not though he’s just had his time deleted for track limits on the exit of turn number 10 Again little bit wide a lot wide off the road goes Oscar piastri looking for a clean lap it was beyond track limits on the first push it was beyond track limits on the second and piastri is staring at a 10th Place start real disappointment for him that would be his worst of the season so far but he couldn’t find the balance from one driver at the bottom end of the top 10 to one at the front or so he hopes Carlos SS is up on Max ven’s time but we know that ven did the damage in this part of the lap this is where the Ferraris the McLaren’s and the Mercedes are desperately trying to bridge the gap to the world championship leader this would mean the world to the crowd and Carlos signs if he can fight to the front row and he can he misses out on provisional pole but that’s good enough for second at the moment we throw it to charir can he get there yes he will charir to second place he’s beating his teammate again when it comes to qualifying the Ferraris are done Norris going very quickly in the middle sector so is Max ven who has one corner to go trying to take it out of reach of all the other contenders in Formula 1 that’s a great Improvement when he needed it is it going to be enough it’s going to need to be a mega lap but it is a mega lap as it stands for Lando Norris who’s right in the hunt for pole position has you run out of tires the way piastri did it’s all down to these final three corners final two corners Lando norrris has been on Pole Position one time before in Formula 1 can he make it too he can Lando Norris digs deep and hits the front of the field can Lewis Hamilton respond Hamilton over the line to third position Russell cuts the beam that’s fourth place and lond Norris for the second time in his formul one career will start at the front of the field he’s beaten maxen by two hundreds of a second have that poll go baby let’s go W Lando Norris has taken a second career pole position he’s beaten Max with Sten by 200s of a second after hour of brilliant qualifying Lewis Hamilton’s best start of the entire season when it comes to a Grand Prix will be third place thanks to that lap that took him ahead of George Russell for only the second time in Grand Prix qualifying this year [Music]
