Can Spain go ALL THE WAY in EURO 2024? 👀 Who poses the biggest challenge? | ESPN FC Extra Time

hello and welcome into the latest edition of extra time we have La Don and Frank leof answering your questions today thank you so much for sending them in for us and uh and Ronaldinho maybe Ronaldinho Ronaldinho coming in for replacing me I gotta be honest with you I’ll take Ronaldinho over you at least I’m telling you right it’s we’re not walking out of the studio and then I’m going I’m not going to make a big statement like no no not at all I’ll go straight to our BS if that’s what what it takes but you’re not going to resign I’m not resigning from watching cop America but if it’s Ronaldinho or you I’m taking Ronaldinho I mey honesty is the best policy you know what I know you’ll be watching copper America absolutely yeah you will I’ll watch everything won’t all right you know what you stay Ronaldo you go home Ronaldinho you go home yes don’t leave me hanging for La do you think Spain has what it takes to go all the way they seem to be very balanced they have um as as we discussed in the show in my opinion they have all it takes to go most of the way not all the way but most of the way I I think this team if they’re able to continue to play at this level with this sort of confidence with Morata scoring goals with lamin man on one side nicoo Williams on the other Fabian Ruiz the balance that R provides for this team P occupying dangerous spaces and a big big and I mean the biggest if of all if unai Simon can just play a clean tournament from here on out just clean I’m not asking you to be you’re not a fan clean did you did you see him today get the sense you’re not a fan did you see him today did okay last Euros same thing remember when P passed the ball back to him and the ball went under his foot for a on goal for pedri which by the way how that how was that given us a goal a on goal against pedri regardless neither here nor there a clean tournament from unai Simon and Spain has everything they want in front of them I think they can make it to the final I don’t think they’re good enough to win it if they play against France Frank was this more about the Spanish Resurgence or the Croatian decline I’m I I feel sad to to see Croatia the way they play today I mean you can feel that uh um perisic Modric uh uh brzovic U who are absolutely Legends in Croatia in the world football they going very soon into retirement and that the new generation is already to step up that’s that was very sad and I found I saw that Al especially at the back where I saw so many mistakes um to allow Spain to take advantage and and score goals so um um I’m more into Croatia because Croatia don’t forget that in 2018 they were runner up in the the World Cup and they’ve been very very good uh uh for like almost two or three decades two decades sorry uh not almost three and was 98 so that was that’s very interesting now it’s nice to see the Spanish side coming back into the top of the world with another way of playing and we talked about that during the show with the boring tiit taka that we saw for a long time and I’m so pleased to not see that anymore and see players who likes to go vertical like Nico Williams or lamin yala yamal sorry Don who impressed you more Spain or Germany well let’s I want to hear this well I mean DM me I want to hear who’s that from well old Smith yes hastan uh what did you just call him hastan apparently oh okay that’s his that’s his I was like oh we’re calling people names now uh I’ll say Spain cuz they are tough opposition I mean if you if you don’t laugh you’ll cry watch in Scotland yesterday we were an embarrassment I mean it was Madness what I was watching I mean that score line could have been seven or eight you know you know the question was about Germany and Spain right I know I just need to get off my chest get off your chest give us that nice stat I just I just need to sort of lie on a black couch and just get it all off my chest but answer the question I would say Spain because their opposition was Stronger what was the stat about Scotland apparently Antonio rudiger is Scotland’s highest ever goal scorer in Euros okay TI for the lead TI okay all right I mean how can that even be a thing ah all right uh Frank kukura is usually very average and inconsistent with Chelsea but he was excellent today with Spain what does the next coach at Chelsea need to do to make him play like today I don’t know speak German speak Spanish maybe I don’t know but uh yeah I agree I agree with jooa uh I saw him going everywhere it was like you know like those little dog ready to bite everybody he was was really he was really into it he made a great save almost on the line helping unai Simon in one action and he was there and the first uh the first goal is one of his passes he was a lucky one with his right foot but still he was there was everywhere he has the confidence of the coach I think he’s um there were some question marks on French television just before the game where you say well you only play for a small team in in in Spain before going to Brighton then Chelsea never proved something good but I have to say today it was very very good so what the next coach has to do I don’t know maybe giving him the 100% confidence which is quite hard according to what we saw this season and the season before with Chelsea but uh let’s say he’s improved in and we have to give a chance to the product I would say in the case of Marco Kura specifically less is more if you I believe this is a sort of player in which you simplify his role no let’s let’s not put too much thought into this this is what I want you to do these are the three things that I think are going to make a good player for our team do this no not not not have to sort of think the game or or have to to process information and digest information no no I want you to do this and tackle the ball and press the the player that has the ball on the sidelines win some challenges defend well first tuck inside when we need you to tuck inside and then run up and down the line when there is space to do so that’s it that’s it Mark we don’t we don’t need more than that you know to answer that way you’re absolutely spot on when he first went into Chelsea he was asked to play this inverted position in Midfield yeah keep him at left back he’s a good Defender you go p K Love Tonight Kay is an expert in Italian football unlike Don shade what do you see them going far what Sanchez I actually see I I wouldn’t be surprised if they got to the semis the dark horses I wouldn’t call they’ve got a Crux of good strong players inter players which you always need in a in a tournament like this you often see that teams that go far have a Crux of players that play at a Winning Side stay away from League away from injuries couple things couple of things when we were doing the show and you call them Dark Horses K kind of sort of yeah know but but she was with you yeah she was she she was kind of with you and now she’s putting him to the semi-finals so see it’s it’s two different realities she sort of got the face there is she and then the other face there well it’s Father’s Day tomorrow I’ve got an Italian husband I’ve got to like ballot it out you know bot it out so we’re playing politics keep expectations realistic sick okay I mean has I wouldn’t bet against them going having a Deep Run I’ll say I like has my six years commentating on S just gone over I would say and what Sanchez yeah hey what what Jorge Sanchez doesn’t know is that when you’re watching Italy play it’s like d Ray watching Germany it really is it’s in that category it’s in that world Italy scores a goal and you’re B see for Italia for Italia just the bias I’ve got just just the natural bias of God fall in love with calari today oh my God the prince first of all the new no no more full disclosure when clar fi was uh running he’s he’s just a beautiful Runner look at him who says that me he looks like Mal look at his hair look at his face look at look at his running gate I don’t I don’t I don’t doubt that he is a really good player but I cannot for the life of me evaluate a player by saying look at the way he run you must look at someone’s running gate and go yeah he reminds me of a certain individual can I can I tell you a funny story about that there’s actually an article I’m going to make this story about me for a second shock there’s an actually WR article that was who he going to be like in the early in the early days of my career in major league soccer in which one of our writers who still works at ESPN by the way espn.com he’s described me as ungainly running style I thought you going to say he’s like compared you to like Ronaldo in your style no no he’s no ciari basically basically ungainly running St apparently I wasn’t moving all that fast but then he went on to say that I was one of the most underrated players which I felt like it was is this a compliment is this it doesn’t feel quite right so if this is why it’s touchy feely for me when you evaluate something under running sty you’re a decent Runner when you’ve got to go and get the questions from the for extra time I change your pace I get there though

  1. Of course. The Top 5 teams at the Euro: France, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Germany all have a chance at making the final. Every team has a weakness so its not a guarantee which is why this is so exciting. Even long-shots like Austria, England and Belgium may do ok.

  2. After the EUROs, Croatia could face a similar decline to what a team like Germany faced a couple of years ago where they were too reliant on their older players and couldn’t replace them properly until now. Don’t get me wrong, Croatia have overachieved in international tournaments particularly at the World Cup and they’ve went on unexpected deep runs and while their loss to Spain it’s true that it was just one one game, they lost 3-0 and with how tight their group is, if they finish 3rd and they done get a lot of points they can’t advance. Their cycle and Golden Generation is slowly coming to an end. It’s going to be difficult for them to replace their older players.

For example, Luka Modric is the greatest player to have ever come out of Croatia, but even he is 38 years old and after the EUROs he won’t be at another international tournament for them, Marcelo Brozovic plays his football in Saudi Arabia, Ivan Perisic isn’t getting any younger either. In recent years, Ivan Rakitic retired from international football and Mario Mandzukic retired from football altogether these are 2 members of their Golden Generation and since Modric’s time with the national team is slowly coming to an end and all their players are also aging as well, I don’t see how they can replace them. I just wonder how much more they have in the tank and what the future holds for them once Modric isn’t with the team anymore.

  3. cucurella had been really good for Chelsea for the last couple of months before this tournament, clearly people haven’t been watching

  4. Looking at Spain’s game, Yamal’s touches look really scary. They have a complete team although not sure if Morata is the high profile striker that will deliver. I don’t think they will succeed over france or England, I don’t think they were really tested this game

  5. These people are idiots…. Remember 2022 world cup Spain win 7-0 first game. Everyone said… Who gonna stop them!!! Then they didn't win another game hahahahahahahaha

  6. I dont think so. It will be like last euro probably, they will go far (at least quarters) but will fail against a nation with bigger squad (for instance France)

  7. Knowing that luka modric is going to retire soon will he will become a manager and try coaching some of the young footballs in his country raise there level and take over the national team

  8. People familiar with football always talk about identity, identity, identity.
I didn't watch the game but does this Spanish team have an identity?
Cucurella, Yamal, Williams, Morata, Pedri, Rodri, did they have an identity?

  9. Am I the only one seeing Netherlands going all the way?

My top 3 to win it is Germany Netherlands Spain

The reason why I don't see Portugal, England and Italy is because for me they have bad managers and Belgium has a weak defense and No Courtois

  10. LOL…I've been watching football since the early 1970s. Even when Spain won back to back Euros and a WC, these people didn't take them seriously and acted surprised when they won.

  11. As a spaniard I fully agree with Alejandro Moreno, Unai Simón shouldn´t mess up on the big stage like that. Besides that, he´s a great stopper and he redeemed himself stopping that PK. On the bright side Spain is playing more agressively on the last quarter of the pitch and not boring us to death with endless passes that got us nowhere.
