here we go man Fabo really hijacked that phrase e Here We Begin our daily coverage of Euro 2024 I didn’t want to do a video just for one game yesterday so Germany and Scotland will be in this video as the football Germany versus Scotland the moment we had been waiting for it’s always so difficult to get a read on host Nations isn’t it all that you have to work with our friendlies and friendlies typically aren’t a fantastic representation of the team you’re watching it’s like a 60% accurate representation you know so given that plus the fact that Scotland had a decent qualifying campaign showed they could beat a top tier European side like Spain I mean I was looking forward to this one for a few reasons however after about 20 minutes it was quite clear well a few things were quite clear really the obvious one this German attack with vers musala HTS and then gundan in behind them it’s a big big problem for everybody in the Midfield you have the grit of leverkusen’s andrich next to the genius of Tony cros who was incredible in this match behind them rudiger and top providing defensive solidity and then the width comes from middle stat and kimik so it was always going to be tough for Scotland against Germany but with this particular setup from nagles men it was even more difficult this German side wasn’t just Dynamic with their attack as and verse were a problem like I said but they also pressed the hell out of Scotland Scotland could barely string together five passes before Germany pressed them into a mistake a misplaced pass whatever and we’re back on the ball again but how Germany can hurt you is there’s just so many different ways strike on the counter with their speed yep pass their way through you when you’re sitting deep yeah they also have enough players with the ability to beat your Defenders one-on-one and create space for themselves as Jamal musiala did to score Germany’s second goal that crazy touch great touch around the defender ruthless finish into the top Corner the first goal was a great Square ball to vers on the edge of the box and his strike slipped past gun off the post and in the youngest scorer for Germany at a European championship by the way musala and the Fellas continued to cause issues as they nearly won a penalty earlier in the first half then got one later right call from VAR as well as the red which was a reckless ankle breaker of a challenge endangering your opponent but how did the penalty come about well-worked attack from Germany kimes clipping a dinked ball in and gundan nearly converting a header prior to getting fouled again plenty of ways to hurt teams including from the penalty spot so muala havs and verts all got in on the goals in the first half alone and the second half was as you would expect Scotland tried to tighten up and stop the bleeding but once the changes came from Germany with their deep deep Squad they grabbed another Nicholas ful Krug with a smash just 5 minutes after coming on to the pitch straight into the top Corner later am R Chan who just joined the Germany Camp days earlier came onto the pitch and scored Germany’s fifth rudiger with an own goal 5-1 the final and dominance and quality from Germany the first time they’ve scored five in a Euros scary stuff from them and nagles men but facilitated by Scotland’s massive gaps in the Midfield and defense not sitting back not in Midfield just kind of aimless on the pitch and gave Germany a lot of room to work with the next match the next morning Hungary versus Switzerland early in the match I absolutely recognized that it was super early but Hungary was giving me a bit of turkey 2020 Vibes they grew into the match and showed they’ll start better against Scotland in this group but this is a team that had a lot of us excited based on how they progressed over the last few years good showing in the Nations league with some massive victories such as that over England an excellent qualification campaign for this tournament some talented players in every part of the pitch and they seemed like the Darkhorse tag kind of got to their heads a little bit early in this match they seemed a bit hesitant Shell Shocked against Switzerland in the first half and took a long time to find their groove but there are reasons to be very optimistic which we’ll get to later now with all that being said about Hungary Switzerland were kind of the opposite a team that lately hasn’t been as solid as they were in years past they used to cruise thanks to their defense with nickols on the counter from set pieces Etc Great tournament ball right in the last couple of years the last year or so they haven’t looked as good they’d won seven of their previous 14 matches coming into this tournament since that loss against Portugal in the World Cup 61 with a lot of uninspired performances along the way but when it came down to it they were the top performers in this match by a long shot no nerves as they are very experienced at this stage now they regularly make it out of the group stage and they were great value for their two-nil lead over Hungary at the half they were clean defensively limiting Hungary to half chances from outside of the box or easy collects from crosses for Sumer they were passing their way through the heart of hungary’s Defense pretty regularly and were allowed space at the edge of the box for opportunities as well in fact their first goal was the former a nice passing move where they capitalized on a mistake at the back right at the heart of it and Duo was through with a clean finish we’ll talk about him in a sec the other a nice curling strike from the edge of the box from aisher which felt like the dagger in this match which it would turn out to be the winning goal in the end now this daa fella I was talking about is a sweet story I had no idea who he was and I’m sure a ton of people will have had the same sentiment because this match against Hungary was just his second appearance for Switzerland he’s 27 years old he was born in London but made his first Switzerland appearance in a friendly against Estonia just this past April and was benched in the next game anyway the optimism I mentioned for Hungary in the first half in the second half they began to resemble the team we saw over the last couple of years while Switzerland started to look like the shaky team that had a lot of problems when it came to squandering leads and giving up late goals and qualifying Hungary started to carve out tons of chances soash in the inside left channel was causing major Havoc for Switzerland’s defense cutting inside delivering dangerous balls into the box for his teammates and Barnabas Varga took advantage of it and put a nice low header for one goal back Barnabas what a sick name great character in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey by the way shout out Barnabas Gods Know Switzerland had another great push forward toward the end of the match got a little scrappy a little chippy you don’t mind that though right right and the Swiss nearly converted from a corner if not for a great Peter gashi save hungry had a ton of bodies forward which led to more opportunities for Switzerland to hit them on the counter but the third goal from Switzerland came courtesy of a mistake at the back with men forward a terrible pass back from a header straight into the path of bolo and he finished calmly over the head of Peter gashi great Cameo from imolo he looked sharp he lost his knee brace and he still scored and and a solid performance overall from Switzerland again Hungary showed us flashes of them being dangerous but we’ll see if they can build on that or if they have already kind of plateaued at this tournament so Germany tops the group after one match with Switzerland behind them Hungary third and Scotland bottom next up Germany takes on Hungary and Switzerland versus [Music] Scotland the first combatants out of the so-called group of death I mean all the groups are pretty tough but this this one has the biggest names I guess so it gets the group of death title but the first to go head-to-head were Spain and Croatia lineups were as expected I love that we got to see niik Williams and lamin yamal on the flanks the only change was at the back where Le norand took the place of laort one Frenchman for another at the back for Spain but next to nacho no worries Croatia had a lovely Midfield of modri brovich and kovic the prolific anti budimir was the striker killed it at osasuna and my boy love roer on the right who I talked a lot in my preview this Croatian team is so solid but they took a while to get up to speed honestly with Spain enjoying more of the possession and looking a bit more dangerous in the attack but once Croatia settled they of course looked good they are such a tournament team they are never down and out and they have a ton of quality I hadn’t even mentioned gardial at left back yet would that quality come through though we’ll see Cora’s first shot came around the 22nd minute with the aforementioned budimir heading wide of the goal but it felt like a warning sign in some ways and then out of nowhere 5 minutes later Alvaro marata Captain espia was played right through the heart of the Croatian Defenders the amount of space he had between two center backs was pretty Dreadful from a Croatian point of view but Morata finished cleanly with his left great goal from him great run great finish and funnily enough a little trivia for you that made it three consecutive Euro tournaments in which he has scored against Croatia so get get those FC quiz Boys on that eh minutes later and Spain doubled their lead with a stunning goal from Fabi Ruiz who actually set up the first as well great match from him solid footwork from Ruiz and a great finish low pass lakovic Hill decline for Croatia who also nearly responded immediately through brovich and Meyer it felt like if they could bring back one goal prior to the half we would be in for a treat maybe a comeback and they nearly did so with gardio strike across the goal that budimir just couldn’t get a foot on so I mean story of their half right creating nice chances just no finish on the end then you see Spain at the other end just being absolutely clinical lamin yamal with a deaf little ball into the box Danny Carvajal with a deaf little touch at the near post past lakovic first Euros for him first goal lovely stuff and Croatia’s Hill became a mountain yamal by the way absolute Menace for the Croatian Defenders the big problem for me was that Center back pairing of sutalo and pongrac they just seem completely unorganized at the back like they don’t understand each other you can’t help but feel that gardio slotting into the middle would bring a commanding presence and a a better defender in the Middle where they are suffering in that heart of Defense it’s way too open all the time but in the second half while Croatia had their moments where they came close such as that scramble in front of the goal where it felt like the entire team had an attempt blocked by Spanish Defenders or unai Simon or the disallowed goal that came from petkovic’s Saved penalty they struggle to find the back of the net once again have an open goal can’t put it away get a penalty from that play have that saved put in the squared ball from a rebound and it’s called off for encroachment football gods were just sort of against them there I think all of this despite looking great and the buildup all the time they look so good with how they would pass their way out from the back build up the attack but nacho and lomont were stunning at the back for Spain as was Carvajal and kukara they had those those flanks locked down pretty much a huge credit to Spain’s backline and the help they received from rodri in the Midfield as well the captain after Alvaro Morata went off a 3-0 that felt more like a didn’t really feel like a 3n felt like at 2-1 or something especially looking at the XG Croatia should have scored but the only column that matters is the goals column right oh boy not even 30 seconds into this match and everybody was on Italy pack watch after a massive mistake from DeMarco threw it straight into the path of bami the saso midfielder he stepped around bastoni and blasted it into the roof of the net superb finish still had a ton to do there despite the gift from DeMarco which brought us the fastest goal in Euro’s history just 20 22 seconds in Baston also didn’t look great in that moment but anyone who was praying for a big upset will have had their dreams crushed pretty quickly including the entire crowd at signal aduna Park well not the whole crowd but a lot of reporters said that it was about 2/3 at least Albanian supporters anyway following a corner kick Baston got his Redemption he got free at the back post to not imp Pelin cross and immediately cancel out Italy’s early error reset the board and they continue to pressure Albania Italy really began to dominate the match actually as Albania struggled to carry any kind of consistent possession and Italy got their lead for the first time in this match through a stunning strike from Beretta ball came back to him at the edge of the box and he’s one of the last guys you want to see lining up a strike at goal with tons of space around him blasted past trosa for 2-1 three goals in this match after just 16 minutes what a tournament so far e in fact side note that goal meant that the first four matches of this tournament all had had at least three goals the first time the first four matches of a Euro had three goals since 1976 about 48 years ago which is pretty crazy this has been fun so far now if you watch my preview for this tournament then you will know that I was cautious about spesi as the coach for Italy not because I don’t believe in him as a manager he is one of my favorites man honestly I love the way his Club teams have played football Napoli being the Apex of all of that but I was worried as to whether he would have enough time with Italy in this camp in order to get his tactics across to them allal qualifying wasn’t great perhaps it was partially due to playing against a weaker opposition in this match but Italy were playing some fantastic football in that first half after going a goal down the way they moved the ball manipulated The Defenders out of position and then exploited that space they should have had at least two more goals in the first half but ended 2-1 so far so good with spetti and the boys after a half e and speaking of with the way Albania played in the second half it felt like those spurn chances could come back to bite Italy at least spetti thought so he was furious with his side and the way they were playing marching up and down the touchline as Albania were starting to get the better of Italy and were threatening to find a way clear on donaruma with their passages of play they had Runners getting forward instead of the more reserved performance in the first half when Italy were striding around the pitch confidently but while Albania made things difficult for Italy and there were some touch and go moments here and there namely attempt that went off of donaruma and just wide Italy held on for the 2-1 win they had to work hard yes but overall deserving of the Victory and so that means that Spain top the group currently with Italy in second Albania in third and Croatia in last for now next up Croatia takes on Albania and of course Spain versus Italy Euro 2024 has begun, and hosts Germany looked incredibly frightening against Scotland! It looks like Florian Wirtz, Musiala and the rest of the squad will be a scary prospect for the rest of the tournament.

In Group B, a quick one-two punch from Spain saw them score twice within four minutes, with Dani Carvajal scoring a third before the half was up.
