He could play 10 forwards in a game and still wouldn't have a clue how to play on the front foot. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
We may have so many attacking players but they do not have the skillset to unlock defences nor have the manager that specialises in offensive tactical play. Our best creator is our striker which says a lot about the midfield. Going defensive is our best option in progressing.

Southgate is not a charismatic man, but he has done a good job We English overrate our team. Watching Germany yesterday, and thereโs only two or three English players who would start in that German team. We have talent, but winning in tournaments with this group is far from guaranteed no matter who the manager is.

Having grown up in an era of truly dreadful England tournament performances, Iโve enjoyed everything from 2018 onwards. As far as Iโm concerned, if weโre playing knockout games against the top nations, Iโm happy. I never go into these tournaments thinking we must win the whole thing. I just enjoy it for what it is.
And again, growing up seeing us either not qualify, get knocked out in the groups or get knocked out in the first knockout game against average sides, I really enjoy seeing England reach quarter finals, semi finals and the euro final even though we donโt win I just enjoy it for what it is and I strongly recommend that other people take the same approach. No doubt at some point in the future weโll have another period of struggling so letโs just enjoy these tournaments where we are doing well because that wonโt last forever.
Talking about their attacking individuals is missing the point.
As a team they've been toothless up front. Theyve shown none of the things needed to break the lines – subtlty, control of tempo, tactical astuteness etc. As much as I like the man, Southgate simply can't do it. After he leaves the FA will hire another defensive stick in the mud.

I watched Germany yesterday. There will be tough opposition from other nations, as well. England has good players, but team effort quality and 122 minutes of stamina might become what counts in the end. Reaching the final is good enough, the end result with the trophy will always depend on which team has the best day-form and some luck with the ball.

This guy can't win. Slated for going with favourites and then gets same treatment for making bold decisions and complaining about taking certain players.
No we haven't won a tournament under him (it's not like club football when you have a chance every season) but he's done particularly well to have created a unity within the team since he joined which has reflected in tournaments that he's managed and have got results. Yes, we've fallen short a few times but that's sport. Whether people like it or not, he has been England's most successful manager since Ramsey and he deserves a lot more respect.
Nobody has put forward a better option for England as the next manager so instead of slating him and the players before going into the tournament, let's actually get behind them for once.
