Fire GB now, because we can’t do any worse for sure… there are several decent unemployed English speaking coaches at the moment.
US defended very well. Brazil had to penetrate in order to win. But they didn't… why? It's a friendly game!
8:35 I agree with that statement instead of trying to play like Spain when we don’t have that personnel to do that it was more of blast to the past playing aggressive north/south when chances were available but also more gritty just don’t get embarrassed type soccer we have seen before I feel like this team and somewhat rightfully so thinks they are better than past teams but what’s important is winning so whatever the team needs to do to compete should be the goal
Berhalter OUT. US Soccer OUT. I'm talking the leadership at US Soccer, like Cindy Parlow, et al.
Just curious… what would you consider a "substantial result" in Copa America to change your mind on GGG? Qtrs? Semis? Good vid.
Signature ties✨✨
It's like that old maxim. "It has to go bad before it gets good." Or something like that.
Berhalter said it was a wake up call for the team. Projection. It was a wake up call for him.

I learned that while I m ok with Gregg out – US fans need a reality check . We’re not one of the best teams in the world. We’re not a top 5 country . For better or worse Gregg has helped us get to places we’ve maybe not ever been.
That said – I get the out movement overall. But at the same time… I can appreciate what we’ve done because the reality is the grass isn’t always greener
Who had Joe Scally go off on Serginio style runs? I did like our ability to sit deep and withstand pressure, then go off on counters. Previously we would try and press all the time and if you dont press well it leads to lots of chances on the back end.
Fair evaluation and analysis. Earned a sub.
Hope the Copa America organizers fire the VAR Crew and that referee. That gross mistake the VAR made erasing the yellow card and free kick for Brazil is not in the soccer book of rules. The VAR cannot call the referee to review a foul unless it is for a possibility of a red card. Don't want to see them in Copa America! In fact FIFA should reprimand them for such a poor job on that play last night.
These days Colombia is playing way far better than Brazil. The cariocas still have their reputation of being one the best world soccer teams; however, after that defeat from WC 2014 where Germany beat them 7-1, Brazil has not been the same…I'm very pleased that the USA was able to maintain that score 1-1 until the end because even though Brazil may not be playing their best, it is still a strong contender and yes it was a friendly game, but still it boosts the morale of the team after that 5-1 against Colombia.
Success in international football is often built on the back of the goalkeeper. Like Jake said, there are so many differing variables that come into place when playing with your national team. If you can have someone who can make a some big saves at the right times, you can keep yourself in games and give yourself a chance. Top teams have great goalies. In this game, both Turner and Allison had big moments that kept their team in the game. If Matt Turner can play at a high level, this team can play at a high level.
Colombia is built different
The GGG-out crowd is super frustrating because the criticism all so shallow and disconnected from what's happening on the field. It's a bunch of people who have reached a conclusion and then shape their perception of reality to match; it's all confirmation bias. That's why we get wild takes like "good game, BJ, bad game, GGG".
England 0 – 1 Brazil
United States 1 – 1 Brazil
Me: It's Called Soccer not Football ⚽️🇺🇸🦅😁🔥
Good take on Musah. He has had the same issue at Milan. Glimpses of greatness and loads of potential, but just missing decision making at critical moments. Let's hope he can figure that part of the game out. He could be an assist machine if he does.
The team played very well as a team. Brazil was better individually but the USMT defended very well and stepped up as a team. They moved the ball quickly supported each other etc. Brazil is still a better team and if they play this game 10 times Brazil is a tremendous favorite but the US deserves a job well done.
He just parked the bus in the second half nothing wrong with that teams like Iceland or Greece do the same when they play against superior teams
I thought it was interesting that there were many times when the US appeared to drop into what looked like a 5-4-1 especially in second half. And they seemed to do well defending, relieving pressure, and countering from that formation. It's a shame we don't set up that way from the outset because we looked cohesive and balanced in that shape.
no way we keep greg. he’s literally NOT the guy for the job. send tf outta here. i can type up the entire tactical aspect we saw ln and how it worked watever. but greg isn’t doing anything crazy. he’s overstayed his welcome similar to southgate in tht aspect
This looked more like BJ Callaghan ball. Gregg Out still though.
Jake, what I’ve always appreciated is your transparency, and in this modern age, ability to actually have nuance.
I too, have been called a GGG apologist, mostly for saying he’s been middle of the road. I too, was closer to the GGG-out train right after Colombia, but re-watched and noticed a few things that shifted the game.
Onto Brazil, here’s my biggest takeaway. Gregg had some VERY good in game management. There was the impetus to allow Scally to stay home against Vini and the overlapping runs of their LB. A far cry from his usual 2-1-6-2 in possession formation.
Beyond the idea of letting Joe do what he does best, I noticed the pressing was starting as a 4-3-3 shape, then morphed, at times to a 4-4-2 which allowed for the mid block to really clog the middles, and towards the end, a 4-5-1 shape. These were not accidental, it was Gregg seeing the game, and instructing the team to shift the way they play based off the game at hand.
Obviously Turner was massive, and once again, the deluge of the louder commentators (11 yanks/ Tactical manager) will complain about playing out the back when Turner launched a ball towards midfield. However, beyond that, the shift to allow Turner to simply hoof it didn’t hurt us, and we still had a very respectable 43% possession.
Long comment, I know, but felt that this game, from the “nerdy” tactics perspective, was fascinating.
Brazil has been the biggest fraud in football for the last 20 years. They are still living off the reputation they had in the 80s and 90s. Anyone who knows anything about Brazil knows that their winning tactics are dirty, that they antagonize their opponents and get in their heads to gain momentum in the game. 90% mind games, 10% game. They're also unfairly favored by refs half the time. What a disgrace for the sport.
Playing down to the competition and needing a game to get mentally ready for competition is 100% on the coach. Our players don’t need a soft spoken federation shill as a coach. We need a tenured gaffer who demands respect the instant they put on the US shield.
5:20 I don't think its a coincidence
I think it was well planed by US soccer
We needed to face 🔝 teams in these friendlies
