The dilemma of being the best passer in the country while being the worst RB in the country by a mile. Never gonna be played in midfield ahead of the rest of the others midfielders at the same time never gonna start at RB with the calibre of RBs in the squad
Grealish doesnt play against 10 at the back every week cos he doesnt play. But Kane, Bellingham, Foden and Saka do all play against 10 at the back every week. I think we shouldve taken grealish but Merson's argument for it isnt great!

when opponents put ten men behind the ball "that is our problem", whereas we're better in the knockout stages "the games open up". Has this Paul "Mercer" ever watched England in a tournament since 2018? We've beat (or occasionally drawn) with every team that sits back and defends in the group stage. Then in the knockout stages "when the game opens up" Southgate gets found out and we get outplayed. How on earth has this plum still not realised this
I personally don't know why so many people are up in arms about Southgate dropping Grealish from the England squad?? His form for city over the season hasn't been good enough!! With it being either injuries, loss of form or pep preferring Doku in his position? It's not like there's no other players to choose from in his position!! Players like Eze, Foden, Palmer, Gordon have all not only performed better than him over the season but they are all in form as well.

What Merson said about Grealish compared to Eze, Gordon, Palmer is spot on. First thing his ever said I agree with those 3 do play against only broken up counter attacked sides. His point on Wharton also is spot on he must play as the Anchor

Paul Merson is one of the dumbest pundits / commenters on football. Sure he was a good footballer in his day, but so was shearer and lineker, yet when they open their mouth its just bitterness and absolute nonsense opinions.

Only Grealish doesn't play every week.
Played in only half of City's games…played 36 games all season.
Started 10 Prem matches only. He only took part in 6 of the last 15 games in the run-in so wasn't trusted by Pep.
Scored 3 goals, and more to the point only had 3 assists all season?
So he really didn't break down many Premier teams, doesn't score goals so what would justify his inclusion in a team playing international sides? He can't get into the City side. It's not as if he's played a lot or had a good season.
His previous England record? Around 35 full internationals and only played a full match in 5 of those (tbf played a couple of 80 mins too) otherwise a bit part player…2 goals 6 assists? On that basis, he's what England need to break down the opposition?
