  1. We all applaud his exiting squad selection but we forget its still him in charge hahahaha let them loose ffs . Why pick attacking players and tell them to hold back.
If we win which i obviously hope we do,itll be because of pure dumb luck or the players take charge and ignore him haha it will be in no way of southgate tactical prowess

  2. I find it so funny that people try to blame Southgate for a performance like last night. Managers can’t control everything, particularly in a friendly when they’re trying to get minutes into players and protect others. The players will have been told to press, work hard off the ball, they will have been given instruction in training – they didn’t do that after the first 10 minutes, the players were lazy mentally and physically. Kane’s miss, Palmer’s complete unprofessionalism in decision making and intensity when the opposition goalkeeper gave it away in their box, Foden’s ridiculous flicks when he was in real space around the box in the first half; the players simply weren’t at it because they took the game lightly. When you do that at this level the game becomes difficult, especially when players know that they’re managing their minutes and when the manager can’t and doesn’t need to make decisions based on winning an individual game of football.

As usual, England fans need a scapegoat and are quick to panic. The players weren’t good enough, they need to switch on, and they will. There was plenty to learn from both of the warm-up games; Southgate has some big decisions to make which fans won’t like if he wants to get the balance of the team right and it will be interesting to see how the media reacts if he makes those decisions. One thing that was blatantly clear is that the balance wasn’t right with 2 holders and a 10; people think that 3 central players is negative, but it isn’t because it allows us to dictate the midfield and win the ball back more consistently, Bellingham, Rice and one other (possibly Trent to get real forward passing into the midfield) need to start as a midfield three. Our obsession with Foden needs to stop; if he plays he can start off the left and interchange with Bellingham at times to find himself in more central positions. If the space is in behind, Gordon becomes a better option. As good as Foden is for Manchester City, we won’t win a tournament because of individual quality alone, there has to be a balance to the team – last night’s game showed that.

  3. One of his big problems is that he's too nice and soft. Too much of a friend to the players. He needs to be tougher with his players. It was simply not good enough, the players should have scored at least 2 or 3 with the quality they have and considering how close we are to the Euros. He lacks the passion and killler instinct required.

  4. He shouldn't have named his squad before the game, it was feet up. Also I've lost track of how often we come up against teams who park the bus & yet we always struggle. Southgate saying he learned a lot is just a load of froth – he says 'at this level'? Iceland are a bunch of championship players at best. Nowhere near good enough for the money the get paid. Kane's wages must be half of their team put together.

  5. Is it any coincidence that the managers with a cutting edge to them like Mourinho, Fergie and Pep are serial winners and this fella couldn't win a bean.

Even the media are treating him like a boy that could fall apart if their questions are a little mean because that's just the vibe he gives you. Southgate – grand if you want good vibes, not so good if you want a trophy in your lifetime.

Remind me. Is he dealing with things that no other manager in the history of international football has dealt with? "There's reasons for all of that."

Yeah, Gareth, at what point is it just about the fact that your players are supposed to be better than the other teams and just get the job done.

  6. I just cant imagine this mans team talk turning a game around. He might be nice and gentle with the soft ones but would you honestly be scared of his wrath or inspired by his intelligence?

  7. Watching paint drying football it is almost anti football the way england play when the players they have are capable of playing entertaining watchable football.

  8. You left 2 of our best players out
You only put dunk and guei in because you think it’s you an egihog bk in the day
Put tha pizza hat bk on

  9. The errors are far too big to rectify at this stage. He's already picked his Nigerian squad 👀 i mean England team and he's left out key players because as far as i can see, because they are white and southgate is WOKE.

  10. When you got too many attacking players who don't press and are lazy to press or counter press your jus leaving your back 4 exposed especially when full back bomb forward, change the mentality Gareth and you got a euro winning squad.

  11. All the proper fans who are actually going to Germany are behind Gareth and the players! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿💪

  12. IF England win the euros…. what are all the haters responses going to be compared to now? All these ridiculous comments about a friendly against ICELAND a WEEK out from the euros with potential injury risk will be irrelevant.

  13. It's easy to blame the manager, as usual. It's down to the players when they cross the white line. Players looking not to get injured or over exert themselves. They all feel the pressure and expectation playing for England…..as usual. Bottle jobs. I don't think they will qualify from the group. The other countries will be looking to prove themselves against England and want it more. Can't even be arsed to watch it. Footballs gone in this country.

  14. This guy is more of a politician than a coach. Boring and dull personality and tactics. Its like the government put him and keep him in charge.

  15. I agree with most of what Gareth said. On paper, England have a good team. But they are not SO good that they can just show up, kick the ball around a bit and somehow register a win even against so-called "minnow" opposition. World football has levelled up considerably over the past decade. This means players MUST approach each match, whether friendly or not, with an overwhelming desire to win. And the lads truly did not look very hungry the past many games.

Do you remember how Italy won the previous Euros? They weren't great on paper as a team, but boy did they play with passion! And let's not forget, many of the England players are near-burned-out after long club campaigns the past year. As well, the current squad don't gel well due to a lack of playing cohesion – i.e., there is rarely the same eleven players putting on an England jersey even for two games in a row.

The bottom line: England players and management need to simultaneously come together with a "do-whatever-it-takes-to-win" mentality. If they can manage that, I believe they will surely win the Euros this summer.

  16. Useless yes man "I wont take Grealish if Pep doesn't trust him" (not a quote but will be his thoughts). He was fighting for a place in a team that just won the treble, not a team that has won sod all for 2 million years.

  17. If this was a South American team performing like this all of 2024, the manager would get slaughtered by the press but here in England, if you ever challenge Gareth, you'll never be invited to a press conference ever again!!!

  18. Southgate is a complete nutter. He hates individuality, like Grealish and Maddison.
The Iceland result proves we’re in for a bumpy tournament.
Gordon will be the only bright light in these shambles.
