Arne Slot’s Strategy At Liverpool If Bryan Mbeumo Joins And £20m Transfer Is Done.

Arne Slot is undeniably fortunate with the Liverpool team he takes charge of. Unlike most managers, Jürgen Klopp’s voluntary departure highlights the quality he leaves behind. The attack, on paper, is already formidable, with Klopp’s decision to bench Darwin Nunez towards the end of the season emphasizing the depth in forward positions.
Heading into pre-season, Cody Gakpo is holding down the central position, but will face competition from the now-fit Diogo Jota. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz form a formidable attacking duo, ranking third in terms of productivity in the division. However, a perfect summer would involve further signings, including Bryan Mbuemo, to bolster Slot’s attacking strategy.
While defensive strengthening may be a priority, Slot would be wise to reinforce the attack too. Potential departures, particularly Nunez and Diaz, remain uncertain. Even if the squad remains intact, the new manager could benefit from expanded options. Slot’s tendency to regularly substitute wingers during matches, as seen at Feyenoord, suggests a dynamic system.
With Salah and Mbuemo alternating on the right, Liverpool would have improved options and a potential succession plan. Signing Mbuemo now, with Salah’s contract expiring next summer, appears strategic. According to L’Equipe, Liverpool has expressed interest in Mbuemo.
However, if further recruitment is in the cards, Rayan Cherki seems like the ideal addition to the squad. A unique talent without a clear dominant foot, the talented Lyon player would inject more directness into Liverpool’s attack, whether on the wing or in an advanced midfield role.
What’s more, Cherki could be secured for just $26m (£20m/€24m. Liverpool has recently been linked with him by Sports Zone.
Despite some associated risks, the 20-year-old’s desire to leave Lyon with a year remaining on his contract makes him an enticing prospect at a discounted price. Pairing him with Mbuemo would unlock Slot’s rotation-heavy attacking strategy, providing Liverpool with a plethora of exciting options across all positions.
