  1. Having watched a ton of his games, with Schalke, Juve and the US, there is a lot to like.

+Good tactical read of the game
+Tremendous motor, and has the athleticism to make up when he misses a read defensively, or even when a teammate does
+Good at linking play through the midfield
+Not shown much in this video, but is very good in the air, especially for a player his size (6 feet, ~182cm)
+Very good at finding gaps and making runs into dangerous spots from midfield
+Fights for his team and teammates.

    He also has some deficiencies

    -Not great at line-splitting passes
-Not exceptionally skilled on the ball in tight spaces

I can see why a certain manager who values the latter skills would want to move him out, while one who values the former would want to bring him in. Hopefully he ends up in a good spot with a coach who values what he does bring to the table, rather than one who is focused on the things he doesn't. If you're looking for a midfield creator, he's not your guy. If you're looking for a guy who holds a midfield together, you'll be happy to have Weston McKennie on the field.

  2. Legitimate box-to-box mids with both size and pace are an uncommon commodity. They tend to enjoy elevated valuation by clubs because they can be assets for practically any gameplan, match-up, or managerial style.

This is why Juventus can shop McKennie for the price their asking. He's not truly 'next-level' in any one aspect of his game, but he's good enough at doing everything (attack, defense) that every manager thinks "yes, he could help us".
