  1. Don’t believe Berhalter. He is a liar. It’s so classless for a coach to talk bad about one of his players in public. This WOKE coach must be gone.

  2. All fingers point to the Berhalter EGO. His coaching is erratic and when questioned, he never accepts responsibility nor admits fault. His 'system' is contradictory, and Berhalter is clearly a third rate coach. It was naive of Berhalter to think we could play at Netherland's level, so much so that Van Gaal laughed at the Berhalter tactics. With the talent we have, its embarrassing the USSF didn't fire B, and is even contemplating a re-hire. That choice will certainly be a waste of our usmnt talent, and we deserve so much more. With Berhalter, usmnt will not reach their talent potential. A second rate coach would at least not handicap us, and a top flight coach would help us vie for the top in WC competition, currently at the semifinal level.

  3. My guy is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. This is about WHY and WHAT Gio did…not about Berhalter. Gio clearly f'd up here, in some manner. It's up to him to own it. That said…the kid is 20 years old. Hopefully, he learns from this experience and becomes what the USMNT KNOWS he can be.

  4. The amount of sucking up to a petty, vindictive, mediocre manager, the eagerness to throw Reyna under the bus just like the bald egotist here is just weird, but completely expected for a video from ESPN FC, the unofficial mouthpiece of a corrupt, nepotistic USSF. Congratulations, you're backing continued failure for USMNT 👏👏👏

  5. Everyone acts like Reyna is phenomenal. He’s always hurt and unfortunately he’s slow like his dad. He doesn’t score much either. If he was great he would’ve left Dortmund awhile ago like everyone else does. I doubt Berhalter was purposely sabotaging the team by not playing him. He needs to stay healthy and get better to earn a spot. I’m no Berhalter fan either btw but players have to play. If he was playing well leading into the tournament he would’ve played.

  6. Let's just run with the idea that the person talking has to be telling the truth because a coach has never portrayed a situation to appear favourable to him? No, never! Coaches are people too, capable of the same fallibilities as any human is. Why is Berhalter even talking? Surely if he decided to let the player stay in the camp then they gave him a second chance and have moved on. This literally serves no benefit whatsoever, particularly if Berhalter has any ambition of staying on because doing this now only pushes Reyna even further away and what happens if he develops into the next Messi? Unlikely, but that makes his position as coach almost untenable. The point that should be discussed is does this mean Berhalter is gone from the USMNT, because it has a real petty airing of grievances feel to it which you often hear from coaches soon after departing their position.

  7. Reyna is the best player with Pulisic in this US team. He was always a nice guy at Dortmund, cant imagine he caused trouble or something. Think was a personal issue from Berhalter.

  8. If you were on the fence about Berhalter as a manager, this should push opinions over the edge. Which is what the coach wants to happen.
Pick a side, I guess. But interestingly enough, got a player who gets regular minutes at Dortmund (when healthy), but can't get in line for his national team during a World Cup?
Something wrong there. When a coach can't get his best players to get in line, he's got to go.

  9. I would be hesitant to place all the blame on Gio until hearing his side of things. I know from personal experience coaches here in the U.S. sometimes can have their biases and like to flex their power over certain individuals. I went through something similiar where a coach just didn't like me and favored politics and personal bias over performance and merit. At that point you see what's going on and lash out and than of course the coach is going to protect himself.

  10. Based on what we have to go by; Giovanni Reyna sounds like he's got quite an ego already. He got into with our captain, Adams in camp. The Coach thought he was too lazy in training. There was a team vote to send him home early and they voted in his favor 13-12. That's too close for comfort. Sounds like he'd be a problem for any manager, not just Gregg.

  11. I would send back the coach, who was holding our team back. A coach who was afraid to attack, to play offensive because he didn't trust in the talent. You go to the WC to win as many games as possible. Now that's from the outside, I don't what happen inside.

  12. Let’s not forget that Claudio isn’t a nobody as well. There’s going to be plenty of politics to follow. Nobody in soccer leadership cares about what a players parents think… normally. But this one has layers. I can’t imagine Greg has the clout to win this fight

  13. Greg is a bad United States coach and needs to be let go asap. The dude has made terrible managerial mistakes. Dude hasn’t taken the United States anywhere

  14. Just like Mexico team I don’t care this USA offense was terrible and your telling me your best offensive player was on the bench. Then after your eliminated and he go back to his club and scores and looks great.get Berhalter out of here we out coach to death by Netherland.

  15. Gio is clearly in the wrong here. He apologized to the entire team, and the players in leadership even got together and told him it wasn’t acceptable.

He has had a bit of an attitude problem for years now. Watch him after things don’t go his way on the pitch. Hope he figures it out

  16. i have not heard anything from his club the only difference is the usmnt. Either way Gregg Berhalter is mediocre coach to say the least we need a coach of stature because 100% you can tell the top players dont really respect his strategy.

  17. kinda of going back to the famous talyor twellman rant from last world cup about spoiled pampered players…..y does this almost smell like that?!?!?! Hope im wrong.

  18. What was the groups vote to have gb as coach?

I read gio had to get up and apologize to everyone like he was a little kid.

I’m not sure if gio is a problem or not. I’d like to hear it from others… gb is clearly incapable of dealing with off the field issues. Never mind that fact he can’t figure out on the field things. 🙄

  19. Gregg should go for leaking this and not keeping this in-house. This is not how you man manage players.

He's broke the code and alos put shade on all players including Gio, there was no reason whatsoever to say this other than trying to cover yourself.

If the US leadership council is behind this they need to look at themselves and understand why they think booting a player is better than pulling a player onside if they are unhappy with a scrimmage.

The player does potentially have responsibility, but that player doesn't have any right to respond and now their is this needless speculation.

  20. I don’t understand. Gio Reyna is THE best futbol player in the U.S. I was wondering why he wasn’t playing. I remember when they left Landon Donovan home when he was the best futbol player the U.S. has ever had. I don’t understand coach’s egos.

Go back and look at the last few minutes when they were eliminated by the Netherlands. Ball goes out of play and Berhalter throws Reyna a terrible pass (because he is known for his “coach passes”) that goes past Reyna as seconds waste away. It epitomizes how he set up Reyna AND the team for failure from the get go. Half of those players were lucky to have been called up in the first place!

Fafa Picault, Pepi, Slonina, Busio etc. etc. should have been on that team. Jordan Morris, Ream, Walker Zimmerman, Haji Wright, etc. etc. should not have been on the team. They were lucky to get out of their group, and the goal they scored against the Netherlands was literally the luckiest I have ever seen watching futbol.

If that coach remains, it will be detrimental to all of U.S. futbol.

  21. 19 yr old kid in Qatar, probably the best attacking the player on the team. Team doesn't do any better after expectations. Player not able to defend himself. Bogus. What's wrong with these idiot commentators?

  22. I just feel disappointed all around.
Reyna is too immature to do his best for his teammates. And for his managers. And for team and country.
Berhalter wasn’t able to handle Reyna.
    Tough, tough questions. Probably unsolvable.
Consequence was a weaker team that lost.

  23. What happened during the WC is not as important as how we are moving forward. GGG needs to go or USmNt will always be a lower tiered team, which we can bet they will likely manage to get out of the group stage, but lack qualities of an elite team!
