West Ham United can confirm that defender Thilo Kehrer has joined AS Monaco on a permanent contract for an undisclosed fee, having spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at the French Ligue 1 side.

The 27-year-old made 12 appearances for the Hammers at the start of the campaign before linking up with Les Rouge et Blanc in early January, in a deal that included an option for him to remain at the Stade Louis II long term.

In his 17 outings for eight-time French champions Monaco so far, Kehrer has helped Adi Hütter’s men secure second place in the table, and a return to the main draw of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2018/19.

In total, the Germany international played 50 games for the Irons after signing from Paris Saint-Germain in summer 2022, including one as a substitute in the UEFA Europa Conference League final victory over Fiorentina last June.

Everyone at West Ham would like to thank Thilo for his efforts during his time in Claret and Blue, and wish him all the best for the future.

  1. I think when we judge players on their performance on the pitch we to make bigger issues of it when they are defenders,,,, perhaps when a forward,, let’s say. ,, is off target when there is an open golf situation.. there’s nowhere near as much background music as there is if it’s a defender ,,, smaller error

  2. Hope Aguerd changes his mind. He's an excellent diagonal ball player to the wings and has pace. Not playing turtle defense would suit him too. Looks like his mind is made up sadly.

  3. I’m a big fan of selling players at their ‘peak’ provided we have a professional scouting system. So Paqueta this year and in a season’s time maybe Kudus and Bowen. Bring in talent and hope they reach their potential. We have always been useless in the selling of players and hopefully this will improve

  4. I've decided not to judge ANY player thats played over the last year or more. You have to remember we played most games without the ball and defending the 18 yard box. It's impossible to judge their footballing ability on that.

  5. Can't believe what always seemed obvious to me anyway … u play Aguerd in the Alvarez roll, releasing Alvarez for a more advanced roll, with a midfield of Bowen, Alvarez, Paqueta … with Kudus and 1 other up front … Aguerd would be perfect sitting in front of a back 4, perfect.

  6. I think Kehrer would have done well with a different coach and tactics and I think Aguerd is a better version of Kehrer, so I’ll be sorry to see them both go. I think having Mav, Kehrer and Aguerd would have been a good group to build around

  7. When we signed him Kehrer was of the standard of West Ham players. We just didn’t have anywhere to play him. ironically, by the end of this season, he’s probably a better standard compared to our center backs. Anyhow, pleased he’s found a place to prosper.

  8. I often slated Kehrer but this still feels ridiculously cheap when people like Kilman are being touted at 40mill.

Didnt we only get Kehrer for that low fee from psg because he was soon to be out of contract?

  9. Moyes come up with something clever!! 😂 Don’t make me laugh he WAS the most unimaginative, predictable and old fashioned manager in the EPL

  10. Belive that Aguerd is a real asset, and like you say, Geo, hasn't been utilized well under DM. I do think he will be more likely to stay now DM is out, and JL in. Aguerd is good on the ball, is fast and has a great pass in his locker. Hoping Zouma goes.

  11. Kind of frustrated thilos gone and hoping aguerd stays. If JLo is gonna play higher up they would both be perfect? I know he had some errors in him, but he could of been great back up to the cbs and alverez, great choice for a 3rd cb too. Now were trying to sign 2 cbs?

  12. Kehrer…….Like he did with so many players Moyes played him out of position most of the time…….and like Haller and Scamacca other managers have shown how to use players properly………

  13. The personnel is the problem at the back, rather than our style of play. Because if “sitting back” really was the problem why does the defensive minded Sean Dyche have no trouble conceding 22 less goals than we have this season? Dyche didn’t have to spend a lot of money either. Tarkowski was a freebie and Branthwaite was peanuts from Carlisle.

That’s what Moyes got wrong. It’s not how he sets us up defensively, it’s the ‘quality’ of the players. Not only that, the money he spent on them. Zouma and Aguerd combined are around £60m. We even knew during Zouma’s medical he had a dodgy knee and still signed him.

Zouma’s knees are gone. Aguerd is too much of a wimp for the Premier League. Oggy’s age has sadly caught up with him.
And Dinos can’t go for more than 3-4 games without making a sloppy/costly mistake.

For all the good things Moyes has done, and he really did do a lot of good things, the defence is arguably what cost him his job in the end. He got it horrifically wrong with his signings. Hopefully Lopetgui does a better job with the defensive signings as I personally think that’s all we’re missing from being back up in the European places.

If our defence was as solid as Everton’s under sergeant Dyche we’d comfortably be in Europe for next season, as our attack isn’t the problem.

  14. Sorry to see Kehrer leave and I don't agree it's good for West Ham. He's miles better than Coufal but unfortunately Coufal was one of the Moysiah's favourites.
