Why does it take so long for these betting charges to drop on players? It took an age to charge Ivan Toney and even longer to ban him. Toney even got selected for England while under the cloud of these charges. Now we have Paqueta – it’s been known for many months he was suspected of gambling and only after the season has ended is he formally accused.

Sounds like it would be hard to proof because we all know how inconsistent premier leagues referees are when it comes to giving players cards. Some players get away with murder on the pitch and others get cards for nothing.

Granit Xhaka somehow managed to get away with the same, let's say, "allegation", so I wouldn't write-off his career just yet.
Granted these are multiple allegations rather than just one and The FA must feel confident they've got a strong case against him after such a long investigation.
You will always get caught out when there are unusual betting patterns. Dont these players understand these sort of things are monitored. You are never going to beat the house.
