Rashford SNUBBED from England’s Euro 2024 squad! | Gareth Southgate explains WHY 👀

Gareth Southgate talks through his provisional England squad for Euro 2024 as Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson are all left out. Southgate also reveals he did not even bother contacting Arsenal’s Ben White regarding possible selection.

00:55 – Henderson: 33 isn’t quite a fair definition. Hendo gave himself every chance. He’s missed five weeks and hasn’t gotten to the intensity since.

04:29 – How many attackers will you cut: I wouldn’t be obsessed with positions. If we pick tomorrow then it would be a dozen defenders. You can take too many forwards.

05:52 – Confident without Henderson?: He’ll be missed. He’s an asset. We have young players with a lot of caps. No reason they can’t be leaders.

06:41 – Different leadership group?: We have so many people that lead, we have too many good influences on the pitch.

07:39 – Dier: He’s played very well at Bayern. We just think he’s behind the other guys we’ve selected.

08:20 – Foden and Gordon: Anthony missed the last game with an injury. Key with Phil is where he ends up, not his starting position.

09:48 – How many injuries in the squad?: There’s a significant number and we have an important physical challenge.

10:37 – Worst you’ve had it?: We’ve never had so many unknowns. The key is making the best possible decisions.

11:14 – Keeping everyone until after Iceland game?: I couldn’t possibly answer that. I always like to give players as much clarity.

11:45 – Did you speak to Ben White?: No. I understand he’s not available.

12:10 – What situation do you want to avoid in Germany?: We need flexibility. There’s a young generation of players that have that.

13:32 – Important to build a strong group before a squad?: The players have loads of experiences together. 10 men in Naples for example is one thing that has helped us grow. Doesn’t matter what we’ve done in the past.

14:37 – Interesting reaction from players?: I haven’t spoken to the ones I’ve included, the priority was the ones left out.

15:14 – How does this squad compare to others?: There’s more options in the attacking areas. I think that’s hard to compare and contrast.

16:29 – Less reliance on Kane?: Not just Kane but Sterling as well. We’ve shared that load around. We need those options. To go the distance you need good depth.

17:27 – Can this squad win the Euros?: I’d be an idiot if I say no, but if I say yes then there wouldn’t be a lot of work. Arsenal and City were two of the three best teams in the champions league but it only takes one moment.

19:07 – Why are teams getting so many injuries? Feel cheated?: We don’t control a lot of the things we pick up. The injuries is a very complex thing, it could be an accumulation of areas.
