Pretty easy.. they have more points
Great stuff, the Cavs deserved the title
I know it's a lot of permutations, for Halifax to get to 2nd, beating Forge and Valour, hoping Pacific doesn't win against Vancouver and Cavalry, hoping Forge loses to Ottawa. It's a lot of what ifs, but I really hope they get there.
Not just because I want them to have a better path to the final, but because I want them to get to CONCACAF Champions Cup (CCC).
One can assume at this stage that Cavalry could very well get the double. That said, if Halifax get 2nd, and Cavalry get the double, the 2nd CCC spot defaults to the regular season 2nd placer. If Halifax places 2nd, and get to the final, and they're facing Cavalry, they're guaranteed a CCC spot because they can either win it outright, or earn it by default if Cavalry win the double.
If Halifax come in 2nd, but don't make the final, and Cavalry still win the double, the second CCC spot would still default to Halifax, but there wouldn't be the guarantee because it would require the Cavalry to make the final and win, whereas if they lost, or didn't make the final, Halifax would have to win the playoffs to get the second CCC spot.
All of this of course, for you Forge and Pacific fans out there, applies to you too. Whichever side finishes 2nd in the regular season; if they face Cavalry in the final, they're guaranteed the second CCC spot regardless of the final outcome; either an outright win, or by default.
Man this season has been crazy, and these playoffs are going to be crazier I think.
Go Cavs !!!!!!!
