Cody Gakpo reveals issues with Darwin Nunez as Liverpool star eyes expanded role #anfield #liverpol

Gakpo Poses A Question To Slot
Both Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez might be experiencing a sense of deja vu currently. Similar to the situation a year ago, the season is concluding differently for the Liverpool forwards.
Gakpo, despite an inconsistent season, is once again finishing strongly, possibly emerging as the preferred number nine. Meanwhile, Nunez has faltered after being the primary and most effective option in the middle for much of this season.
Gakpo showcased another impressive performance, being one of the few Liverpool players to fully embrace the challenge following the March international break. His absence in the Goodison derby defeat was notably felt.
The Dutchman’s strength, link-up play, and leadership qualities were evident. He also contributed numerically, delivering a cross for Salah’s opener and impressively heading Elliott’s delivery for a deserved goal.
Gakpo could have added another late on, but Nunez’s sporadic cameo was highlighted by his failure to find his unmarked teammate after a swift Liverpool counter-attack. Last season, the Uruguayan started only two of Liverpool’s final 10 games, and this term, he has featured in just four of the last eight.
Arne Slot, the incoming Liverpool manager, is familiar with Gakpo from their encounters in the Eredivisie. Similar to last year, there is genuine uncertainty over who should lead the Reds’ attack in the next campaign.

Elliott Delivers A Message
If there’s one player who may have reasons to be dissatisfied with team selection this season, it’s Harvey Elliott.
Despite earning praise from Jurgen Klopp for his impressive cameos, Elliott has often been utilized more as a substitute than as a starter.
Part of the reason is Elliott not always playing in his preferred position on the right of the midfield trio.
However, after impressing in that role at former club Fulham, Elliott elevated his performance further, even before his blistering strike for Liverpool’s fourth goal.
Elliott created the most chances on either side and demonstrated his tenacity by making the most ball recoveries for the Reds. With four goals and nine assists for Liverpool this season, along with his contributions for England under-21s, Elliott has been involved in 24 goals for club and country this term. At 21, he is just beginning to flourish, and next season could be significant for him.

Bajectic’s Challenging Return
Critics may highlight Liverpool losing momentum after taking a four-goal lead. However, Tottenham were ultimately outplayed by a Reds side that showed why they were contenders for the title.
Although Wataru Endo wasn’t at his best, Tottenham’s significant attacks on the Reds’ defense occurred after he was replaced. Stefan Bajcetic, who hadn’t featured for the first team in almost eight months, struggled after coming on.
Klopp joked, “He comes on and it’s like you arrive on the motorway with your bicycle!” Nonetheless, Bajcetic’s presence on the field was a relief after his challenging time with injuries. This season has ended prematurely for him, but his return is a positive development.
