The reason Mario Gotze downfall is his transfer to Bayern München. Bayern is famous with high workrate and efficient tactics, but if you got injured for only one moment you know you screw it. After disastrous season, he transferred again to Dortmund and battling his injury problem. Ofc he's not in the main line-up in Dortmund. And now he's playing for Frankfurt. Mario Gotze is famous great player with Injury prone trait. Afterall, FIFA game cover curse is real.

Most important thing is he reached top of the mountain,although for a short time and then fell off. At least he made it to the top,much better than not making it at all. Other players reach the top and stay there for long,while others make it and fall off,while others toil entire career and still never make it.
I don't think he will ever not be a hero to us Germans. Who cares if he fell off? I think he is even more admirable now since he continued playing on a high level instead of giving up after all the injuries and even the disease diagnosis. Great player!
