Johan, JB, and Spencer break down how Ineos’ Carlos Rodríguez bested a long list of big-name pre-race favorites to win the six-day Tour of Romandie stage race in Switzerland. In addition to going through how each stage was won and what this means for the Ineos team, they attempt to contextualize the standout and disappointing performances of the week and discuss how they will affect the leadership pecking order at the quickly approaching 2024 Tour de France.

Spencer the eterna Bernal basher….
Bernal is my dark horse for the TDF podium! ❤
Disc brakes on a TT bike… 🙄
Spencer, Bernal might not be in the top 5 of the Tour because he falters on the regularity or recovery or crashes. But never never because of the time trialing in this race. There is not much TT to decide the GC compared to the mountains. Not even close. Additionally, all year long he has been up front all the time. All the time. The only thing to see is his recovery at a 3 week race. Not sure what you mean.
Ayuso has yet to win a mountain stage in his pro career…
Ayuso needs to develop more consistency if he wants to reach the top tier of riders. He can be brilliant one day, but mediocre the next.
❤
I think I heard it said that Pidcock can’t have red bull sponsorship on the road due to Mr Ineos’s rivalry with red bull in Formula 1 but they turn a blind eye to it for cyclocross being a much smaller part of the season
Lipowitz is also riding the Giro according to the startlist. So there is at least one rider that's doing Romandie and Giro. Wouldn't be suprised to see him take an early stage win and be a relevant competitor. He and Danny Martinez could prove to be a nasty combo.
Why does Johan put up with these two knuckleheads? Their ignorance of professional cycling is painful at times.
If Red Bull can field 2 F1 teams it can easily afford to sponsor all riders in the peloton!
Egan Bernal is and has always been overhyped as a racer. He was lucky to win his Tour in exactly the year 2019 because that was just before the advent of far better and dominating racers like Vingegaard and Pogacar. And frankly, 2019 was a weak Tour. Bernal can definately climb in the mountains (not as well as those aforementioned guys though) but due to his terrible timetrial skills even without his terrible accidents, he would in top form never be able to beat either of those 2 guys or even Roglic in a GT battle.
Spencer has ZERO personality and would never make it in mainstream media…Good Luck!
The Chinese bike manufacturers who have been making many of these US and European brand name carbon frames are definitely going to continue their dominance as they begin selling the same frames direct to the customer but under their own brand names. Not sure how many of the big brands will be able to compete and adapt. But the prices have just gotten insane.
