Schalke and USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie has had quite a day, as previous links to Southampton have given way to Andrea Pirlo wanting him at Juventus. But would he actually play? ESPN FC’s Julien Laurens, Ian Darke and Craig Burley break down what Pirlo sees in the American and where he’d potentially fit in Juventus’ squad.

  1. How would he juve need a guy that can go forward not a defensive guy. I think he's good enough to play and bettet than what they got but will they do the right thing?

  2. McKennie is one of the top young players for the US national team and moving to Juve, at least for me, would hurt his development given Juve's midfield options currently.

  3. Juve can’t keep doing this. They keep bringing in average players and aren’t spending the money on world class players. McKennie is not a Juve-level player, even as a squad player.

  4. Reminds me of a young Vidal, came from the Bundesliga, high work rate, young player with potential. If he’s half the player Vidal for JUVENTUS this deal is a bargain.

  5. So, ESPN will be briefly moving from "What does this mean to Gio Reyna or Pulisic" to "What does this mean to Weston Mckennie", good job ESPN FC!!!

  6. People who think Wes can't play often forget that 2 years ago at 19 he broke into a team that ended up 2nd in the Bundesliga, then the following year was a regular starter when they made the knockouts of the Champions League. Obviously they have fallen greatly since then, but that is in spite—not because—of McKennie's efforts.

  7. maybe some people here don't know that for a good part of the Serie A new season they will play every 3 days again so every player who is not injured will have the chance to play. Juventus is trying to sign good and physically solid young players to avoid the risk to finish the season psychically destroyed and without substitutes like it happened against Lyon.

  8. Dope seeing an American at such a young age joining such a big club like Juve. Hopefully Weston McKennie can soak up game from such brilliant football minds and be a contributor. Don't see how he gets much time on the pitch this season…but you never know.

  9. 1. For a young player the most important thing is to get experience and as much playing time as possible; Weston would be better off at a club that doesn't have such a stacked line-up as to guarantee starts.

    2. Andrea Pirlo wants a team with a high work rate and pressing, two traits that were completely foreign to him when he played lol.

  10. Just curious, why is it always the americans and canadians are the one getting the most chances at moving to a big european clubs than an asian or african player?? i feel its totally unfair as i feel they are a lot better asian and african players who could be the one moving to Juventus like Mckennie is doing…

  11. 21-year-old Weston McKennie at Juventus
    21-year-old Christian Pulisic at Chelsea
    21-year-old Tyler Adams at Leipzig
    19-year-old Sergino Dest at Ajax
    17-year-old Gio Reyna at Dortmund
    20-year-old Timothy Weah at Lille
25-year-old Zack Steffen at Manchester City

The future is BRIGHT for US Soccer.
