Bayern wanted him as a RB backup. Pavard would be first choice every match. At Barcelona he has a better chance of playing more games than at Bayern. That's the only reason.

For the people saying Dest isn’t that good at defending, Dani Alves was the same. He was more like a winger and yet is considered one of the best rb of all time. Full backs don’t always need the best defending skills.

Bayern wants Dest as a backup to Pavard and to make sure he has enough time to turn into world class RB… Barcelona do not have this luxury. They need him to play as a starting RB and perform well which is asking a lot from a young inexperienced player.
