The main thing here is that Simon Jordan is a southern snob: he's intelligent, but not as intelligent as he thinks he is. Because Wayne Rooney has a scouse accent and has less formal education, Simon thinks he's stupid. Well, he's not, he's just as intelligent as Simon is, and far more physically gifted. Eventually, Simon will realise this. Whether he admits it or not, I cannot foresee and don't really care.
Van Dijk has been a top class defender in the PL but I've not really seen anything from him that suggests he a good captain.
