About Liga MX
The Liga MX is the top level of the Mexican football league system. It is currently sponsored by BBVA Bancomer, and thus officially known as Liga Bancomer MX. The league is currently ranked number 15 by the IFFHS.
18 clubs plays the league in a single-table format with 17 rounds. The eight best-placed clubs passes through the quarterfinals, when the 1st placed in the first stage will face the 8th. The 2nd faces the 7th, the 3rd faces the 6th and the 4th faces the 5th, always in two legs. The winner of this confrontation qualifies to the semifinal, where they play in the same system, until the final.
Each season the league holds two tournaments: the Apertura, which starts in the summer; and the Clausura, which starts in the winter.
The two most successful clubs are América and Chivas. Guadalajara with 11 titles each. They are followed by Toluca with 10, Cruz Azul with 8, and Pumas with 7 titles respectively.
