Whilst i agree it was a harsh decision. Phillips dawdled on the clearance and gave Gordon time to get between him and the ball. Bit of a grey one for me personally. Could have gone either way.
Frank's often way off, but he's right here. Phillips kicks Gordon. Penalty. End of. Phillips shouldn't be so slow clearing the ball.
Shaka hating on Newcastle. Take away his key to the city. He's lost his mind. 😂
Ridiculous ruling ..
Does it get given if Kalvin also dives like he's just taken a bullet to the foot? Pathetic antics, poorly timed tackle and foul ON Phillips
It's a foul on Philips.
It's as simple as that.
Mad this is even a debate. Gordon attempts to get the ball and gets kicked. How close he got to it isnt even relevant. The pen was down to Phillips lack of awareness that Gordon was on him.
Simple
Kalvin has only intention to clear the ball.
Gordon made a tackle and miss the ball.
Kalvin kick Gordon leg because he sneak his leg from behind.
No a foul at all
Kudus and Bowen are the Messi and Neymar for West Ham United
Is a penalty Philip wasn’t smart and fast enough to clear the ball
If a player is going to shoot, a defender goes to block the shot, doesn’t get the ball, the shooting player catches the defender and trips it’s a penalty no? One player in possession, one isn’t, tries to tackle and misses.
Why is it different because it’s in the other box? Gordon is never getting the ball, and he stops Phillips, the player in possession from playing it. Awful decision
I'm a Newcastle supporter. The West Ham player was attempting to play the ball, legitimately, and in doing so was fouled by Gordon. Because Gordon went down they are all missing the obvious.
Stevie is spot on.. Frank is wrong as per
what about West Ham's second goal, free kick played early when opposition player was down injured was very unsporting/cheating…second penalty only served up a bit of karma
Gordon goes for Coufal's foot for the first penalty then does the same thing to Philips to get his second – I can only think of one reason VAR would arrive at the decision to award a penalty .
I personally didn't think that second pen should've been given to us, and i'm saying this as a Newcastle supporter. However, what I will say is Stevie needs a new eye glass prescription. He was very close to the ball and as a matter of fact, Gordon did kick it with his heel. Whether that was intentional or not is up for debate but if you go back and watch, Gordon hits the ball with his heel and you see the ball going toward Schar.
However, I agree overall that something like that shouldn't be given. Phillips was in the motion of clearing the ball, Gordon didn't put his body in front (only his leg). But it seems like the ref's have been somewhat consistent in calling this kind of penalty. I believe one went against Newcastle when it was Schar, in another match, trying to get the ball out.
Newcastle, cheated and played dirty that day didn’t deserve to win liberty 👊
No penalty for Phillips 😢
Anyone who thinks this was a penalty should not watch football.
Its match fixing, simple
the issue for me is phillips is a confused player …prior to going to man city ,he knew who he was , what is role was …now post man city he is confused …how are you a midfielder wearing number 11 ?? and thats how he got his team in trouble ..this is not the first time he has messed up for west ham….as a midfielder, in that situation you clear that ball ; but the guy is confused thinking he is a right winger …and decides to take two touches on the ball in your own penalty box …like he is there by himself or he is some master dribbler and he cost his team the momentum …the guy needs to play his role
Both pens weren’t pens
It's shocking that the ref didn't give the penalty initially and the VAR officials deemed it a clear and obvious error on his part😳. What an atrocious decision it was. Last time I checked, impeding another player whilst they are kicking the ball is a foul.
So if it was a shot by philips in the NEW box and Gordon gets his leg in the way of the ball and philips about to strike the ball, is that not a penalty to West Ham? Just because it was a clearance does that change the law of the game.
It's never a penalty
Bald guy is a clown lmaooo
The scottish pundit showing commonsense while the other 2 just being idiots.
Look at it this way. If a full back is getting chased down by the winger and he tries too clear it but the winger attempts too win the ball and gets kicked it's a freekick too the winger which happens all the time so why should it be different in the box?
Pen all day long 😊
Another premier cheat, 1st one he does the same,
What Gordon does is irrelevant. Intentional or not, you can't be kicking other players at full force
How in the world is the moron who thinks that was a penalty allowed to comment on games let alone get paid for doing it? His justifications made no sense. By his logic, every time someone trips another player they are actually getting fouled because the other player’s foot has “kicked” them. It’s an insane call and it’s insane that a former professional or coach or whatever that idiot was, could think that this is a penalty.
100% Not a penalty…. shocking, another blunder by VAR… not an excuse for West Ham though because they were still leading at the time. But especially the second one cannot be given as a penalty. Gordon did not go for the ball; he intended to get a penalty and got it.
