COG STUDIOS, Calif. — The LA Galaxy did something they haven’t done in a while: They won a game 1-0. The fact that they beat Seattle in the rain was something. The way they did it might tell us even more about this 2024 Galaxy.

On today’s show, hosts Josh Guesman and Alex Ruiz (standing in for Kevin Baxter) discuss the Galaxy’s win over Seattle and discuss why Gabriele Pec was the man of the match. And who will win this game’s “Mark Delgado Underrated Player” award?

Miki Yamane had a great game, Riqui Puig struggled, and John McCarthy has everyone questioning his distribution, again.

Are the Galaxy a good team?

And who are they targeting as their next center back?

Let’s talk.

Corner of the Galaxy is kicking off Season 16, just a few shows past show no. 1,100! And we can’t wait to show you everything we’ve got in store for 2024!

We’re debuting a brand new Corner of the Galaxy Anthem, written by Ray Plaza. And we’ve also refreshed the look and feel of the podcast.

  1. Josh, I agree and disagree with your take on Berry. I looked at his stats and thought he could be useful, now that I have seen him play some, he basically is what happens when you order Gyasi Zardes and Temu or Wish. Here is his goal highlights from like 2021 I believe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMnBgeAltPE&t=144s and here is Zardes from 2014: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6DoQWyNZRM both of them have a similar proclivity, to drift out wide on defenders. Here is the key difference though, Zardes had the speed, power and technique to also be a serviceable winger, Berry doesn't have that no matter how much he wishes for it. So him drifting wide and not punishing defenders centrally deprives us of that option in the middle to get on the end of service. Zardes could outmuscle defenders and get on the end of crosses, 5 or more of Zardes goals in 2014 were headers or cross finishes, Berry had like 2-3, and most of his goals were running into space and finishes or garbage tap ins. I kinda wished LA had signed Kei Kamara, or Adama Diomande a Kuntz guy for this backup striker role. I noticed it affected our game plan against Seattle as well, normally the P's and Brugman see Jovelic as an even threat. Against Seattle, it was the P's, and Berry was a turd flavored lollipop, fortunately, the P's were enough.
