TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 John Stones injury and a risk playing him twice? We measure everything and the first game wasn’t high level intensity for him, did the same thing Netherlands and Norway did, only ever seems to fall on us, adductor injury so we’ll have to see, didn’t play for two weeks so not an overload
01:15 Lots of good creative performances, Bowen excellent and Ivan very good, for Phil into the game the longer it went on, players that came on had a good impact and Kobbie gave us something completely different, Jude is the headline and that competitive desire not to lose was decisive but the whole team showed that throughout the game
02:50 How many players of the available you’re considering are ready? I’d have to sit and go through it all because I’m a bit lost to who we have and haven’t got, some players have emerged positively from the opportunities we’ve had, injuries are a concern and so many players missing
03:57 Closer to knowing you’re 23 and not playing Rashford tonight? Knowing the 23 – so many unknowns of who might be available. On Rashford: I wanted to see Anthony Gordon again
05:03 Will Jude get the protection he needs from referees? Need to watch it back to see challenges, competitive game would have been different on Saturday, he’s a good player and we have players who want to get on the ball in tight areas, if you’re a top player you have to live with that, games are refereed more tightly
05:57 Mainoo performance? His attributes are there for everyone to see, receiving the ball and riding challenges, we were more open bc wanted to press aggressively, he gives us a different profile to anything else we’ve got and really pleased with what he’s done, adapted and adjusted brilliantly
07:15 Last time we will see you before squad announcement? I hope that is the case! Injury situations we have, some will play on weekend and some will be closer to end of season, then we have the cup finals and two friendlies so will name a longer squad, we really don’t know because so many questions on injuries at the moment, in both games transitions have been problems and not as solid defensively as we’d like to be but been brave and at times you reap rewards and at times live on edge
09:08 Mainoo shutting out the noise? He seems very mature and very calm, he knows he’s making his way, we’re delighted with what he’s done, a lot of the season still to be played, I had a plan on Saturday night for Tuesday that got blown apart in 12 hours so can’t plan for something in two and a half months, we know some of the core parts of the squad but the rest we have a clearer picture from these two games and going to see how people are
10:23 Do you have the defensive depth to match what you can do up top? Consistent defence because of qualities they have, needed to test the other guys against high level opponents, allows them to think about how they’ve played, to win a tournament you have to defend well as a team and gave up better quality chances than we have for a while but played two top teams
11:26 Bowen and Saka competition? Knew least about Bowen and Gordon and have come through really strongly, both have produced quality performances and have worked hard for the team

  1. 5:05 STOP pouring "expectations" onto young Kobbie's back. He is young and you (the media) will ruin him like you've done so many times before with prospects. Dreary drivel from the manager as usual. Banal questions from the interviewers as usual. By the way – EVERY one of the England squad can play against "top level opposition". They play in the fastest, toughest league in the world. Why is this England team just one long perpetual "experiment ? It's been like that since 1966 5:05

  2. Why would you not play Branthwaite or ramsdale? Why was palmer not given minutes? Why would he play rice for 180 minutes in two friendlies? This is why bw preferred to play uno on the beach with his Mrs.

  3. If Jose becomes England manager, he will be more brutal and direct. With Southgate, it’s kindergarten coaching. Forget about hurting teams.

  4. Not a single question or comment about Branthwaite. I don’t understand when our defence is so ravaged by injuries why Branthwaite didn’t even get 10 mins from the bench, especially since there’s a lot of noise for him to partner Stones. I don’t feel confident with Dunk at this level.

  5. Oh dear. Southgate says he is really good, that guarantees he doesn’t start. Can’t have players thinking forward in a Southgate team, just pass it to the centre backs like we always do, get to the quarters or semis and lose to the first half decent team we meet.

  6. This guy has no footballing brain. He is bigging up kobbie now until he was pressured to pick him for the euros. No matter what when we lose the euros the person to blame will solely be Southgate

  7. you tried to burn out declan in a friendly your losing the plot , why didnt you play other players and no1 cares about vvd haaland we care about england mate

  8. Listen, i dont like this Guy.

But are we really blaming him for this?

Stones got an injury after 10min. Walker after 20min..

Rice played 2 x full games. IN 2 FRIENDLY GAMES. Thats should be a big no no…

    But so did foden…

Are we really blaming managers for playing players 10-20min.. its not like min 80-90..

Blame him for being bad not these injuries… if they even are injured

  9. Difference is who are norway gonna put in the side if they dont play them the drop off is ridiculous while u have the luxury of having probably the strongest squad in international football

  10. you might question anything about mainoo, but you definitely cant question his decision making.. kid has a football brain of an experienced 25+ year old player, he literally always able to find bellingham for the pass..
