With both their title rivals dropping points, Liverpool rose to the summit of the Premier League this weekend with a win over Brighton. But with their squad stretched to breaking point and repeatedly falling behind in games, it’s been the emergence of one player – at both ends of the pitch – who has kept Jurgen Klopp’s championship dreams alive.
Alexis Mac Allister, despite a very weird start to the season, has become Liverpool’s most important player. Adam Clery looks at his season so far, and analyses exactly how far he can take them.

Yeah, just took the manager to play him where he wants too 😂 alot of the time a player knows his best position
he er, plays the left 8 mostly but he was very effective on the right v brighton tbf
⚠️Who remembers that night when Macca & Endo tortured KDB & Rodri on LIVE TV‼️😮💨
Glad to see this, cause I tell you… Mac Allisters performances ever since Endo settled in as the 6, has been truly world class.
It's only my own individual opinion but I think he's been our best player this year, and I think it's arguable that he has been our best player this season.
I won't lie, I was a bit worried about him when we were initially playing him at the 6. I knew it wasn't his role and he was doing his best (no criticism at all), but I was worried that Klopp had signed him to go in there and that was where he was going to play, with Endo being a squad player.
How delighted I was to see Endo thriving as our 6 and Mac Allister just getting better and better and better with every week, in where he plays best.
I can't get over how good he is. I knew he was a good player but wow!
Way more important to the reds' success is the referees. Don't get me wrong they got burned against the spurs but Jesus they've been gifted some games
I remember people laughing when lallana compared Macca to luka modric 😂. Now Macca arguably the best all around midfielder in epl
I’m a Liverpool fan and I watched every game and no – Mac Allister didn’t “suck” playing as a 6 early in the season. He sacrificed his natural game to do what the team needed and was the glue holding the brand-new midfield together while the likes of Szoboszlai got all the plaudits.
So on the surface he may have produced 6/10 unspectacular performances, but if you know football you could see his value even then and just how intelligent and selfless of a player he is. Apparently you didn’t notice – I expected better analysis from you. Disappointing!
People completely exaggerate how bad mac was in the 6. Under the circumstances he did fairly decently.
0:50 fun fact: His ancestry can be traced back to fife
I feel like the Newcastle away game was the major turning point. Endo was thrown in to a losing side that had 10 men and bossed it. that game gave Klopp the confidence that Endo was more than capable of starting in the prem. without that confidence , Mac Allister continues to be played deeper more often and with Trent being injured , the creativity of Liverpool would be severely diminished.
Rice will probably get signing of the summer but it really should go to Mac. To be so consistent when there's been so many injuries and the fact he only cost £35m!!! Not to mention having to play DM for half the season which is arguably footballs most difficult position. Absolute beast.
The most underrated player in the league, second is Endo.
Macca's vision and creativity is the reason why Liverpool rushed to grab him at the start of the season. But Mac Allister still doesn't get recognized by rival teams!
Without Endo supporting him, Macca would not have the freedom to play number 8 here
Great player.
Man… that jump cut killed me with laughter!
The way he was finding Salah with almost every through ball against Brighton was so crazy.
Carved them up.
So wat aru saying is endo is going win Liverpool the league?
Macca is everything we thought we were getting when we signed Thiago. The guy is a football genius. Look forward to the Endo video.
The crazy thing is, they can use Trent in the same way as Bradley, as they did for years.
That's a really great point about Trent's absence working in Macca's favour. It felt like we need to have other players get the chance and moment to dictate play and control things. We get a different way to solve problems and different reading of the game.
It's funny how Szoboslai had a more explosive start and was touted as the next Stevie G for us, but it's Macallister who's now the midfield talisman.
He has been sensational
MacEndo
The next video should be called…”Why Wataru Endo is the best teammate ever”.
My man just ended Gakpo @5:07
Is it just me or some people commenting lack listening comprehension. Dude said Macca struggled as a 6 his first five games, but due to good coaching and adaptability, Macca has done very well defensively as well. Even showed Macca's defensive stats. Never said Macca is bad as a 6.
Scratching my head 🤔on how you managed to show clips without YT censoring you.
Signings of the season surely.
I also believe Joe Gomez playing the TAA role on the left side gives way more freedom to the whole right side. Despite being fairly appreciated, I still believe Joe Gomez is still underappreciated for his absolute versatility on both sides in both the defense and midfield.
Liverpool is not a one man team.
I sure hope he doesnt get injured immediately after this video
I struggle to see the justification for Trent simply coming straight back into the team after recovery. He's too one dimensional and makes us easy to defend against.
If macca is shining for liverpool now, it's only thanks to endo being his shadow. Not in his shadow but being his shadow. Doing the opposite, covering massive ground and putting in the dog work defensively for macca to be free.
I know a lot were talking about Rice as signing of the season and he has been brilliant, but I think for price and impact both Endo and Macca are without a doubt the top two signings of the season. Endo £17m and has been exceptional for a title chasing club. Macca dictating everything for a title chasing club. Last season of course Liverpool were nowhere near competing for anything. Rice has taken Arsenal from title contenders to title contenders. If they win the league, of course he’s a major reason why, but it’s not as big of a jump up that Macca and Endo have caused compared to Rice and Raya. Macca, £35m for a player performing as well as if not better than the £100m players in the league. Now that’s some sensational business.
When will Liverpool fans wake up to the fact that Trent is a luxury player a bit like mesut ozil great when things are going well not so when things aren’t…high time Liverpool cashed in on trent and bring in more players like macallister,Bradley and endo..Trent is just bad news for Liverpool in the long run..these type of players always are..brilliant content as always
Macca was decent at 6 bro. You're focusing on just one performance. Do better.
Macca us the player we bought Thiago to be.
Sucked against Arsenal.
Bloody love Macca I do!
i love Macca

I'm here for why endo is amazing video….
Adam I've been watching your videos in recent months and ti be really honest, you've made me love tactical football more than ever and I appreciate it. I always wait for your videos and it makes me smile when I understand all what you're saying that you've made me understand these past few months. so thank you…
don't get me wrong the other workers are also amazing but you are like an evolution to my love and curiosity of understanding the game more. so thank you.
According to you fella everyone's winning the league this year 😂😂
Been ftp for the 5 years in the game, that 75k gold will be a game changer if i do get the chance to put it to use (imma get some premium tank i've sold & gatcha)
Clearly you don't watch the Reds 😅 Macca grew into that 6 role and become brilliant, albeit is clearly better when free'd up by Endo 🤙
Fair analysis, but if we do win the league, one player who has made a bigger impact is VVD. He's been back to his ridiculous best and has had to marshall a 2nd and 3rd choice back four nearly all season. Immense. Give him the Balon'dor indeed.
Channel is amazing for someone like me that loves watching Liverpool but may not fully understand all the tactics in soccer… as an American Basketball player we dont grow up learning these things lol.. thank you for your insight
No mention of Stefan Bajčetić as the sitting mid. Strange.
Brilliant. Insightful, data packed and pant-wettingly funny.
