  2. As an American and supporter of the national team for decades, it’s hard for me to read much of anything into beating Mexico. And the numbers below are exactly why:

    U.S. Away Record
-2 wins, 7 losses, 6 draws (26.67% of points collected and 13.33% win percentage)
    -15 total matches

    U.S. Home Record
22 wins, 3 losses, 4 draws (80.46% of points collected and 75.86% win percentage)
    -29 total matches

The above numbers are from just under the past three years with our “golden generation” of players. It’s getting harder and harder for me to take the results of our games seriously when 1) We play the majority of our games at home against weak opposition, 2) Our away form is not remotely close to our home form, 3) We are playing at least 24 out of 26 games at home in a two year period, 4) USSF is more intent on making money than testing our players outside the comfy confines of the U.S., 5) We have never beaten Mexico in Mexico in a competitive fixture. To say that we now dominate Mexico is the equivalent of saying the Dallas Cowboys are the best team in the NFL because they’ve been 16-1 at home the past two seasons while 8-9 on the road. You can’t actually talk about the U.S. Mexico fixture being a true rivalry anymore if virtually all the games are in the U.S. And before anyone says the U.S. Home games are pro-Mexican crowds, it’s a completely different experience playing in Texas, Arizona, and California versus Mexico itself.

  3. Reyna the best player, Jules? He's not playing regularly for his team. It's not just Pulisic. McKennie, Adams (who looked good coming back from injury), Sargeant, and a number of others are above Reyna. That he's one of the most innovative players going forward doesn't make him the best, he has key areas of the game to work on.

  4. I hope people, mostly Mexicans, realize that Televisa is the problem. When they get a Colombia reject when we have the top goalscorer you know something is not right. Oh well.

  5. The story isnt Gio Reyna dude. He had a lucky goal that went through 4 defenders from some misplaced headers on a corner after we were already winning from GOAL OF THE YEAR that adams hit…. like PLEASE stop acting like this kid scored a hat trick & had 11 interceptions.

  6. It seems like these two didn't really research or even watch what happened. Maybe they just read comments. to the question towards the end RE is this a ploy by Marsch to get GGG's job – Gab's 'buddy' Jimmy Conrad asked Marsch that point blank on the air after the jamica game. He said no. You can choose to not believe him but I think that issue was settled.

Also in a window like this and indeed maybe in any given game Gio could be the team's most valuable player. But to say point blank he is the best player is not true.

  7. Weird game. I have to give the players credit and Berhalter as well, he took some risks and they responded. But it's weird to me because Mexico genuinely seem flummoxed by the USA now. Like shell-shocked they're legitimately BETTER than them and there's no real question about it. There were things this US team did to carve them up that simply wasn't even close to being there in the 2000s…

  8. Personally I don't like the CONCACAF Nations League. Playing the same teams in the same confederation doesn't make teams like the U.S.A. any better. I can understand for UEFA where the competition is very high quality. Competitions like U.S. cup should be brought back where weak, mediocre, good, super dope teams should face each other. Until the U.S.A. could be teams like Colombia and Brazil (which who they're going to be their next two friendlies), I'm still going to say "Get rid of Greg Berhalter!".

  9. There's definitely weird beef lately between Marsch and Berhalter, but Marsch has explicitly said he doesn't want Berhalter's job (I mean, I guess that's probably the polite thing to say even if he does), and Marsch did eventually come around to acknowledging Gio deserved to be there and should be written into the starting XI with Sharpie. But both have been passive aggressive in their criticism of one another, I'll say that.

  10. Berhalter again was abysmal. Again the talent of his team won him the game despite the incompetence from the coach. We are just lucky that our talent is far better than that of CONCACAF

  11. A quick reminder, if you're 50 years old or younger, the US has been leading the rivalry in your lifetime, prior to the 70s Mexico dominated this rivalry, but since the 70s the USMNT has been steadily improving, this is without the sport bring amoung the big 3 in America. Mexico have not beaten the US in nearly half a decade now.

  12. It would've been more embarrassing to not win this Mickey Mouse tourney. US Soccer should be making all possible effort on getting a new coach in the next few months, since Berhalter doesn't have what it take to play real teams outside of Concacaf.
