The match finished goalless after extra-time. Poland’s captain, Robert Lewandowski, who had scored the first spot-kick of the shootout, could not bear to watch when his goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny pushed away the final penalty, taken by Dan James. Page expressed pride in his players however and emphasised that he has ‘nothing but respect’ for James who ‘had to go on and play wing-back’ despite being a left winger.
