it wasnt really that He IS faster, its just that Varane had to run in a straight line to catch up while Messi had to go in a Slight Angle. not only that the ball didnt go Directly to Messi, it slowed down right as it got to him.
Messi was at a bit of an angle varane was running straight lines but its a new french 19 year old vs the best its still impressive but messi is also shorter therefore shorter legs so shorter strides vs varane the taller defender so longer legs and longer strides in the future varane will be the best defense in the world

Look at their body positions though, they are completely different. The pass wasn't very well executed either. I don't think varane is actually faster than Messi, but he anticipated the pass very well and dealt with it comfortably. Still very early to tell for me whether he will be one of the best or not. I'd suggest you lot pipe down a bit, but that's not going to happen, is it?
messi is faster than varane but varane read that ball perfectly and messi is a midget compared to him so regardless if messi went for the ball he would have been easily shoved off of it which is why he didnt go his full pace

Varane isn't actually quicker than Messi, but he showed what a defender needs to have and that's the ability to read the game. He knew that the through pass was gonna come so he already starts running. Many other defenders would start running after the through pass is given and that's why those defenders will get outpaced by Messi.
Exactly. Messi really isn't a sprinter. He's not really fast at all. He's quick and agile. And he can actually run his full speed with the ball. Which makes him look fast.
