Another Chargers legend is leaving on bad terms with the team after the Keenan Allen trade, but Joe Hortiz says the team explored multiple options to keep him including an extension. Allen’s camp clapped back saying an extension was offered, but it was an offer asking the star receiver to take a major salary cut. Dan and David discuss why both sides can be right, and the rest of wha they gleamed from the General managers comments on continuing to attack free agency. Hortiz also acknowledged the major needs the team has at wide receiver and cornerback, and said he is bullish on the draft class at both positions. The new GM also talked about adding former Ravens to bring the physicality and toughness the team needs and said that new RB Gus Edwards will be the “Bell Cow” back.

Allen’s wife said they were messing with his money ..yes ..but in an attempt to bring a cohesive team together ..what was the team record last year? ..5 wins? ..and how many millions is enough? ..Allen’s greed made it impossible for him to stay ..the Chargers have massive upside at this point ..Keenan can go to the Bears and enjoy 2-3 more seasons of mediocrity before he retires ..we all know who he is at this point ..it’s just a job to him ..

This years receiver class is too loaded to pay 30+ year old slot receiver big money. He got traded to a team with a QB on a rookie contract because they can afford to overpay him.
I feel we should just let him move on without constantly bringing up him being cut in the media. I do agree that tough decisions needed to be made in order for us to be successful in the future, I was sad when they traded him but it is what it is. Time to look forward. We also don’t know the extent of how much of a cut Khalil and Bosa are actually taking right?

We as charger fans have watched this cycle over and over again and I think we have the Spanos family to blame. They were never willing to pay for a top GM and head coach. All we can hope for now, is that since they have finally done that, we may be watching the beginning of a new era of chargers history. Hopefully this was the last time we see a Chargers lifer go to another team. Hopefully this is the last year we feel like we're consistently wasting top 5(if not top 3) QB talent.

They were extremely expensive at WR on a 5-12 team that rarely made the playoffs with a great WR draft approaching – kinda a no brainer🤷♂
To me this look slike Keenan will probably be retiring soon and wants to get his bag before he leaves. That is perfectly understandable and wouldn't expect him to sacrifice money he earned.

Hortiz didn’t have to make the move. He could have added dead cap years to give the team money for depth and already handled 3 of the 4 contracts successfully. Asking your teams leader and JH best weapon to take a pay cut is just insulting.
Hortiz and Harbaugh are tearing this team apart and are going to waste 2 years of Herbert’s prime in their rebuild. They decided to do this vs retooling and still keeping the door open for 24-25.
Instead we get a bunch of cast offs, we lost out on any impact players and we will have a team of just guys. It’s going to be painful to watch.
Gotta give hortiz credit for doing something half the fans would be upset about initially, but will be better for them in the long run

What seems to be lost in the Keenan “pay cut” is the FACT that his contract was bloated due to the previous regime’s mismanagement. So it was never an issue of “cutthroat” business, just excellent business management. After all, just like with stocks, past performance is not a guarantee of future returns. If Keenan wanted to finish his career as a Charger, he could have. He chose not to. It’s that simple.
I hope this is the last we'll hear of this. What is being disrespected? Keenan could live 10 more lifetimes and live like a king through all of them. Sorry gents but he gets no sympathy from me and probably 90% of fans — some who can't afford to go to a game. It’s not that difficult to understand. Telesco overpaid all those players knowing he was on the chopping block! The players knew that and told themselves they deserved it. Keenan deserves it for this one season and is trying to leverage it. Obviously the extension would be cheaper and that’s where Keenan’s greed kicked it. The money was just being increased and spread out. He had a right yo say no and he did do he gone now. Mac earned his too btw.

I know this might not be on the table for the chargers, but if they could somehow find a way to get cooper beebe in the late first round or second round, I think he would be the perfect guard for what they want to do. I also don't want the chiefs to get that guy.

I got to say that yo I’ve been listening to you guys for quite a few months but stop referring to Keenan Allen as a $40 million player I just heard you say that quite frankly it irritates me that you’re being that stupid. His cap number was high, but his salary this yearwas the number it was which was below his cap. The cat pit was from all the guarantees and the signing bonus that he had earlier in his contract. If you’re gonna talk about football, make sure that you know what you’re talking about and stop being stupid.
