  1. Shawn obviously deserves all the respect. But when you do those powerful moves and make them look completely effortless, gracefull, flued and ellegant like Nastia. That's next level

  2. Nastia is what I would consider the gymnastics we saw between the 1970s through the early 2000s. Graceful and beautiful but heavily marred by eating disorders, exploitation, and unnatural strain on the body. I think that the gymnasts we see today are okay with being muscular, whereas in Nastia's time, being slender was part of gymnastics. You wanted that long, lean look, just like in figure skating. No one in the 90s would've accepted a gymnast that weighed more than 120 lbs.

  3. the thing is: they are built different!
Nastia is very lean and tall, while Shaw is shorter and more muscular.
In the end it is personal preference what style you like more because they are both terrific sportswomen

  4. Shawn’s layout series is one of my favorite things in this world, but over all, I have to admit that Nastia just does it for me. her elegance makes it looks like she’s floating the whole time, and there’s not enough gymnasts like her anymore

  6. I love Shawn's tumble series, but damn do I wish Nastia had kept her old one! She used to do a handspring-layout-layout (all stepouts) and it was gorgeous!! I've always loved her style

  7. Nastia luikin is what made me so interested in gymnastics, so fluid, but she can also come in with amazing tumbles. Her leaps in particular are sooo elegant and beautiful. I feel like she is abit underrated compared to some power house performers however she does the exact same and makes it look so smooth and effortless

  8. everyone can see that shawn has immense power, but i know nastia does as well. liukin intentionally tries to look elegant but her strength is there nonetheless. just look at her amplitude in the leaps

  9. These are both incredible! But my favorite beam routine of all time is Dominique Moceanu’s at the 1996 Olympics. Her mount, to this day, is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

  10. Who do you call powerful and who do you call elegant? To me, Nastia is both while Shawn is fast and has more momentum than power.
(They are both awesome anyway, of course)

  11. The comparison or which is better is ridiculous. Every athlete is different & their entire sports career must be catered to their differences; their body type, comfort zone, strengths, weaknesses, execution, mental acuity, etc… You either embrace their uniqueness or insist on having one way of doing things, then complain about things being formulaic, same & boring.
