As we close in on Jonathan Williams’ Top Three WilliamsF1 Grands Prix, the scene shifts to Brands Hatch, Kent, England, where the European Grand Prix is being staged at this venue for the first time since 1964. It’s now 1985. The British GP has already been staged at Silverstone (won by McLaren’s Alain Prost) but even then the Williams FW10A-Honda had turned heads, with Keke Rosberg recording a jaw-dropping average lap speed of 161mph to take pole position. By early October there’s a revised back end on the car from the pen of Enrique Scalabroni, and the FW10B is now ready and able to win its first GP. Ayrton Senna takes the pole at Brands for Lotus and again Keke is in fighting mood. It’s Nigel Mansell, though, who sweeps through on a glorious late-summer’s day to win his first race.

I thought he was going to be talking about Brands '86.., wasn't that the first race after Frank's accident, and also won by Nigel..
Anyway, this sounds like a good race, I'll have to check it out, hopefully YT has a recap
Here is link to the incident that Johnny is talking about.

Alan Jones was my hero, and when he retired I was gutted, I never thought that frank could replace him, but oh my, Keke ticked all the boxes. I remember being at brands hatch, I was working as a gopher for one of the saloon car teams of the day, and keke was having breakfast in the cafe with all of us, and Marlboro on the go , talking to frank, I just thought he was so cool. Happy days.
Why is there a EU flag for the European Grand Prix?
The EU is not Europe.
Question, why is Jonny Williams not running the F1 team? Just from watching these video's about his favourite races, you can tell he would be much more suited for the role of team principal than Claire. Such a shame really
I seem to remember yelling at the TV both when Ayrton chopped Keke & when Keke returned the favour with interest! Ayrton had spent most of '85 intimidating other drivers but not Mr Rosberg. Keke was my favourite driver when I first got into F1 in '82 – does it still show? Oh yeah, Nigel was great that day too! He'd acquired a 'plucky trier' reputation til Brands. Didn't take him long to get rid of that did it?
What an unexpectedly great Nico story!
Fantastic stories šš»
Some clips of these races would be a nice touch.
The Cake was a very cool guy. Slightly before my time as I only remember him from his final season (ā86 @ McLaren). This race was the trigger of my getting into F1 and becoming a massive Mansell/Williams fan. Iām going to watch it. Again š¤Ŗ
I loved that one Peter šš»
Jonny should get a shot at running the team!!!
Great great story!!! The top 3 have to be really good ones!!
I was ath this race and got Nigel's autograph in the paddock afterwards. We were sitting below Paddock Hill bend for the race. Great day. I love Brands. Keke was an early F1 hero for me, was lucky enough to be present at his first two wins, Dijon 82 and Monaco 83.
My admiration for Nico has quadrupled since he retired.
