December 16th 2023 is a date not many Cherries and Hatters fans will forget. A football match was abandoned after Luton’s captain, Tom Lockyer, collapsed on the pitch after a cardiac arrest. The match was stopped in the 59th minute as medics tended to Lockyer, who collapsed off the ball. He went on to recover, and whilst his future in football is unknown, he will be returning to Dean Court for what looks set to be an emotional lap of the pitch ahead of a crunch fixture between the two sides.
In the aftermath of that match, the Cherries Trust, Talking Cherries and AFC Bournemouth started working together on a project to use the re-arranged game as a chance to raise awareness around cardiac health. Fans have also raised money for Luton fans to travel down to the game in the Bobbers Coaches – you can help donate to the cause at the link below where any surplus monies raised will go to the British Heart Foundation.

Luton fans have arranged for a one minute applause to take place in the 59th minute and we would urge the Cherries fans to join in with this. It is a thank you to all of the medical staff who worked so tirelessly in the original game.

Luton will stay up and Sheffield Utd, Burnley and Nott'm Forest will go down
As we come together for this game, Cherries Trust & AFC Bournemouth are looking to help in any way they can, to make this match easier to attend. With this in mind, three separate locations are being stationed around the ground where mental health first aiders from Talking Cherries will be present.
▪They can be found in Bar One (home supporters only) from 5pm
▪The DC lounge (home & away disabled supporters) from 5 pm
▪In a gazebo stationed near the away end (home & away supporters) from 5.30pm.
They will be on hand to support anyone who may be feeling anxious ahead of the match. Feel free though to just come along and say hello.
In Bar One, the MHFAs will be joined by representatives from Bournemouth Heart Club who will have information and advice regarding cardiac health and the services they offer locally.

This is going to be a very difficult game, both on and off the pitch. As a Luton supporter I will never forget the goodwill and assistance given to Tom by everyone from Bournemouth. I won’t be disappointed if we lose. Setting that aside it is of course a vital game for us. As we sit proudly at the top of the premier league (having the most injured players) I rather think this is going to be tougher this time round. Would certainly take a 1-1 draw!

Lockyer died for 2 minutes 40 and had his 1st child this month. Amazing outcome….Your supporters trust paying for 3 of our fan coaches tommorow and the support and respect you showed in the first game. Absolute top class fan base, fair play. Your a credit to football, the premier league and i wish you all the best (except tommorrow) ❤
I will never forget the 1-1 draw at home to Luton back in 2009 when Danny Hollands scored an own goal and then scored for us 🍒
Stein and Ovendale also played for both clubs, 2 of my all time favourite Bournemouth players. If there is 1 team I don’t mind us losing to (now that we are safe).. it’s Luton. I’d be happy for Brentford (Thomas Frank) or Forest (their fans) to go down.

On Boxing Day, Luton won at Brammall Lane. The home defeat was, as you showed in the list of results, in February.
As the person who organises the away coach travel for Luton fans, I would like to say a massive thank you to AFCB fans for both the way that they responded at the game in December and the fund raising for the coaches.

Would like a 2-1 🙂⚽️ for the Cherries but would happily take an entertaining 3-3 draw and wouldn't be too unhappy if Luton sneaked a win as I want Brentford to go down with the Clarets and Blades. Little old Bournemouth and little old Luton are a credit to the Prem and it would be a less interesting league without them.
