Bayern Munich had won 11 straight Bundesliga titles. They’ve also won the Champions League twice in that period. They broke their transfer record by signing Harry Kane in the summer.

But not only may they not win a single trophy this season, they are a club in crisis.

Seb Stafford-Bloor outlines what’s actually happening at Bayern Munich. Illustrated by Philippe Fenner.

  1. Poor Kane. He's so good and keeps performing and just can't catch a break. Also the fact this was the first back to back loss in 4 years is an absolutely mad stat.

  2. Great video overview. Relations go a long way in football at all levels of the hierarchy which shows unparalleled differences between Tuchel's reign at Chelsea compared to Bayern. "Kane" will always be the butt of the joke as to why Bayern are suffering from a lack of success in his first season, but obviously everyone knows that isn't the case.

  3. Nothing in this world, including football, is purely coincidental. Harry Kane not winning trophies is also not just bad luck. It is a culmination of his "micro-behaviors" that unconsciously deter him from winning titles.

The fundamental problem is that Kane does not know how to win a trophy. He does not know how to behave in big matches that lead to trophies. Whenever he is in a big game, he becomes overly nervous and forgets that he is the best striker. He shoots with too much power and passes are not as accurate. One of the most memorable incidence where Kane became nervous in a big game was the 2022 World Cup game against France, where he missed the penalty that could have saved his team. Of course, there was a huge pressure on him and he had to face his teammate Lloris, so it is understandable that Kane felt the circumstance unbearable. The thing is, if he was that nervous, he should have let his teammate take the penalty, which he chose not to. Kane's weak mentality in big games can be proven statistically. Though Harry Kane is inarguably the top scorer for Spurs, people often forget that he has scored only two goals in the UCL knockout stages during his entire career while his former teammate Son has scored five goals, three of them against Man City. Even Lucas Moura has scored more goals than Kane in the knockout stages.

Off the pitch, I would say Harry Kane is not a player with the best mentality. As the best player in the team, Kane should be encouraging his teammates and trying to build a bond between those players. Unfortunately, I have not seen from Kane any act of getting closer to his teammates other than a handful of his golf pals. Even in Bayern, he does not socialize with his teammates especially because they speak German; this is why he had to recommend Eric Dier, who has been benched in Spurs for nearly the entire half-season.

  4. Not winning the league title for a twelfth time in a row is a good thing for the longevity and legitimacy of the bundesliga

  5. Bayern's troubles are from the top. The older generation has retired and what came after was pure mediocrity (Kahn, Salihamidzic + their current replacements). If it stinks from the top the bad decisions will flow to the lower layers like a domino hence getting decisions such as sacking Nagelsmann the way they did (and giving in to player power with that decision) and bringing Tuchel who is known to stir controversy faster than Mourinho at all clubs he's managed!

  6. More like what's gone right at Bayern. I'm glad they're finally being dethroned, tired of one team leading this damn league every season.

  7. As much as I understand people giving upmost praise to Leverkusen and saying that Bayern is doing fine, I feel like they're missing the point of the whole cacophony that surrounded this current Bayern era. Bayern spent their largest ever sum on one of the greatest goal scorers in the world, and brought on a manager who is known for remaking a transitioning or wholly finished team and bringing them to superstardom. Instead, what we got is boring af football that is losing or drawing us matches, with most of our games won being by a lucky sliver. The board brought in two superstars, so ofc Bayern fans expected better. This isn't "Leverkusen are just that good." Yes they're that good, yes they deserve to win the Bundesliga, but that doesn't change that Bayern, right now, despite what the points and stats say, are playing some of the least convincing football I've ever seen from them. I thought with Kane and Tuchel, we'd get at least a good return to form, but we got the opposite, a pitch downwards. Imagine spending several million euros for mid.

  8. The biggest mistake that led to the problem was the installment of Oliver Kahn. The second biggest mistake was to fire Nagelsmann – Bayern was still in all competitions and had an aggressive new style that was more and more getting into the team.

  9. My take is:
Nagelsmann noticed that his playing style didn't work and then he made the team more pragmatic. That wasn't good enough for the bosses and Tuchel was free(but maybe not available after the season) so they tried to get him during the season. But Tuchel is also a very pragmatic coach and relies more on individual quality than a specific playing style. Therefore not much changed, the games were mostly onesided but very controlled and not enthusiastic or pretty. So the points were his only upside and everytime he lost or drew, he couldn't defend their game. That was worsened by his obvious feud with many journalists, newspapers and experts. But the worst part is Leverkusen, who denied him any easy gameweek.

  10. Bayern shouldn’t have won the league last season if we are being honest. If Dortmund weren’t such bottlejobs they wouldn’t have got their 11th title. They never should have let Hansi Flick leave and should NEVER have signed Kane. It’s so bad Musialia doesn’t want to sign a new contract so I’m not sure if Bayern future is looking good

  11. No one EVER seems to talk enough about how tuchel always loses the dressing room wherever he’s at. He famously did not care about the players when Dortmund encountered the b*mb that hit the bus

  12. Bayern’s problem is slowly going to the direction of Manchester United. However, before things worsen even further, they need to immediately sign a coach that can work alongside the managerial team (yet still ignoring the fact that they need to give the coach time to) and if there’s any name that might suit such a description, it would be Valverde. He is known to be able to perform in a team with problematic managerial team or when the managerial team have to decide what players available to buy

  13. The biggest Problem is that Tuchel is an insanely overrated Coach. Nagelsmann got sacked for no reason cause Kahn and Brazzo thought we'd need the "highest profile German Coach", that Nagelsmann was actively building up the Team for the future of course was kicked to the side for that

  14. Hi Tifo/Joe Devine, I just saw I was for some reason unsubscribed and now need to go on the record and say I have been subscribed and watching since this was Umaxit football!

  15. What's gone wrong? Simple. The Kane Curse.
You can take the man out of Spurs, but you can't take the Spurs out of the man.

p.s I think he's a fantastic player, this is banter, I wanted him at my club.
