  1. I would say in terms of ability and individual quality, he is the best in the PL and probably the best the league has ever seen. In terms of ranking him against the best in the league, it’s difficult because he hasn’t won the league enough. Football is of course a team sport, and Terry, Ferdinand etc had better teams around them for longer periods and were in the dominant teams of those eras. I would say he is in the top 5 best defenders because of that. In terms of overall ability, however, he is probably the best.

  2. He is perfect. The only problem is his age. He should leave Liverpool for real madrid and try get some more trophies before he retires

  3. Not sure you can argue that he’s not number 1 in the premier league. Stats and subjective appraisal with awards and rankings between other players positions (second to Messi) no one else can boast that

  4. You'll never get people to agree on individual rankings so take it like this if we took the whole history of football and all greatest defenders of all time and put them into lets say a tier forget individual ranking but a tier VVDs in the very top tier where maybe 10 players or so are he's that good elite doesn't do him justice once in a lifetime player.

  5. Had a slight dip after the ACL (still baffled why Pickford wasn't sent off) but he's certainly back to his best this season. Imagine he never had that injury, his numbers would be even better!

  6. Pundits still haven’t figured out that EVERY Liverpool player is as important as the other….its a team game. That’s why Man Utd are so bad nowadays….

  7. It’s funny we’ve had about 7-8 “most important players”, it’s VVD, then it’s Salah, then it’s Alisson, then it’s Trent, before that it was Fabinho, it was Mane, it was Firmino 🤣🤣🤣🤣
