Luka Modric without a doubt is one of the best midfielders of our generation and even amongst all the greatest to have ever played the game. But at nearly 37 years old, Modric is doing something we’ve never really seen before from other all time greats like him. He is no doubt a special kind of talent, and I personally would place him among the top 5 greatest midfielders of all time – and some of you might not agree, but regardless, a vast majority of people would have Modric at the very least, within the top 10 of all time. He’s in elite company alongside names like Zinedine Zidane, Xavi, Iniesta, Pirlo, Cruyff, and many more. But let’s look at the main aspects that really sets Luka Modric apart from all those household names and show why he is truly different and is in a class of his own.

Man he's is overrated. He robbed ronaldo in 2018 and the guy hasn't even finished in laliga's top assists provider for even one season. They replaced him with ozil and guess what ozil had more assists in 3 season for madrid than modric 10 season combined. Just get over him.
He's a great player who relies on his brain. I would argue that he can only keep playing at this level because he has top athletes around him who make up for his short comings (age).
Zidane is the best for me.

I will only stick to players I watched playing. Zidane, Pirlo, Modrić, Scholes, Xavi and Iniesta. It is really hard to put one above the others, but Modrić is the most complete midfielder of them all. He is equally good in both attack and defense with positioning and closing players down. In his early years in Real Madrid he was kinda underrated, but slowly progressed to world class status and GOAT candidate for midfield. A legend for sure.

I remember Modric world class performance in Europa League for Dinamo Zagreb against Basel when he was 21 years old. He created 10 goal chances as winger and each of them strikers failed to score. This was incredible indvidual performance with plenty nutmegs, dribles, passes. In that he was world class could have played for Real, Barcelona or Bayern but scouts failed to see that.
I think he’s my all time favorite Midfielder.
France won WC 2018 but…. Croatia won the world.
Luka did carry his team during that WC and he was an outstanding Captain.
