Roma – AS Roma won tickets to the last 16 of the Europa League. Draw 1-1 in 120 minutes, I Lupi kicked Feyenoord after winning 4-2 in the penalty shootout. AS Roma hosted Feyenoord at the Olimpico, Friday (23/2/2024) early morning WIB, in the second leg of the League Top 16 play-off Europa. The two teams drew 1-1 in the first meeting. The visitors took the lead through Santiago Gimenez’s goal in the fifth minute. Roma responded immediately through Lorenzo Pellegrini 10 minutes later. The 1-1 score – 2-2 on aggregate – then lasted until normal time was over, even into extra time. The winner was determined through a penalty shootout. Four of Roma’s five executors successfully completed the task, with only Romelu Lukaku – the second kicker – failing. Meanwhile, Feyenoord failed in the second and third kicks due to Mile Svilar’s save. Roma also qualified for the last 16 of the Europa League. Only five minutes into the match, the hosts conceded. Starting from Quilindschy Hartman’s cross from the left which the Roma defender tried to cut off, the ball went to Santiago Gimenez and was thrown into the goal. Roma threatened again five minutes later from a corner kick. But Romelu Lukaku’s shot was blocked and another effort from Stephan El Shaarawy ended up going wide. GOAL! Roma equalized in the 15th minute. Lorenzo Pellegrini’s curling shot from the front of the penalty box could not be reached by Timon Wellenreuther. Both teams played more carefully after the restart. Roma had a chance in the 84th minute when Romelu Lukaku got the ball in the penalty box, but he wasn’t quick enough to grab it and was blocked by the goalkeeper first.
Feyenoord’s response via Mats Wieffer’s header during injury time did not produce results. His effort still deviated from the goal. The match continued into extra time. Feyenoord threatened through Yakuba Minteh in the 94th minute. His shot was blocked by Svilar. Roma had a neat chance at the end of the extra period. Lukaku’s shot was blocked by the goalkeeper, then his header from a corner only ended up in the goal. Four Roma executors succeeded in carrying out their duties, while Lukaku, who was the second kicker, failed. Feyenoord missed the second and third kicks, Roma won 4-2.
