At South Africa 2010, Uruguay were looking to qualify for their first FIFA World Cup semi final since 1970. They were up against an Asamoah Gyan-inspired Ghana, aiming to become the first African team to ever make the final four.

There was controversy deep in extra-time with La Celeste’s Luis Suarez in the thick of the action.

  1. We could tell Ghanaians played their heart out till last min a few days ago in 2022 world cup .
    They didn't forget 2010.
What goes around, goes around Suarez .

  2. Fifa should introduce new rule that in this kind of situation it should have been directly given goal n red card to the player. Since there was no keeper to save any more and only bcoz of Suarez's hand goal didnt happen! In future let not any nation be victim of this kind of act!

  3. Forget the red card in that situation where there is a blatant illegal obstruction the only fair outcome is an automatic goal to the attacking team

  4. People blaming Suarez for Ghana losing and it was quite clear in everybody's reactions that the match was a done deal with the penalty. Ghanaian players were joyful and Uruguayan players were devastated. This quickly reversed when Gyan misses the penalty. Afterwards, Ghana do not score their penalties in the penalty shootout. It's easier to blame the opponent than signal your own responsibility in your defeat.

PS: Suarez could have perfectly used his head to clear that ball.
PS2: People seem to forget that Maradona scored a goal with his hand on a World Cup final and nobody treats him like the devil.

  5. Do the rules prevent the goal from being awarded by the referee? Off sides goals are allowed to be scored all the time even after the flag goes up, and are subsequently taken away rightfully.
