Alphonse Areola has become Zidane’s favourite between the posts of Real Madrid after Thibaut Courtois being substituted on last week’s Champions League game at half time, and maybe for a good reason.
Courtois has conceded 82 goals in 53 games since last season while playing for the Los Blancos – a terrible number of goals scoring against the 3 consecutive champions league’s winners.
So Zidane decided to swap Keylor Navas with PSG’s keeper Areola, expecting for him to make the change that Real Madrid needed so much in the goalkeeper role.
But, after their last match against Granada when they won 4-2, you cannot be sure that he is the right choice.
Areola made an awful mistake in the 69 minutes, losing the ball for the other’s team attacker and that fouling him and causing a penalty. He is lucky he didn’t get a red card for that…
And what even worse is that after that he conceded again (not his fault this time) leading the Los Blancos for an uncomfortable situation at home of almost losing a 3-0 lead.
Fortunately, James scored their 4th of the game in the last minute but I bet Zidane is not happy with that performance.
So what do you think?
Who should be Real Madrid’s first keeper?
