My favorite gymnast
She could never stick her landings off the vault. She trained 50% less than her teammates. Just imagine if she had put in just 15% more time she would probably have clinched the all around gold.

She was 16!!! Olympic gold medalist at 16!! The talent, the drive, the maturity it takes to do that. Even just traveling the world at such a young age is amazing

I remember watch her and she was a very impressive strong gymnastic. these girls the way I see them were every one is a champion. unlike other sport where they can perform for long period of time in their life. they only have one or two chance of participate in the olympic.

Canadian here…nothing but respect for American gymnasts…and Shawn was joy to watch, impossible to forget. I hope she’s living now, with as much happiness as she gave to the rest of us through her sacrifice.
Watching this in 2023 I can't help think how much higher Simone Biles vaults are. Shawn's go straight out rather than vertical. At least that how it seems to me.

The evolution of gymnastics has a huge correlation with the evolution of the apparatus. At the time Shawn Johnson was a gymnasts, the vault did not have springs. Now a days we can see that gymnasts perform higher level skills in vault because springs have been added to have higher altitud. Same thing happened with floor.

I did know that about her vault that she didn't perform the Yerchanko n then everything changed n pol jus got crazier n crazier w vault which was always by far mu least favorite apparatus lol
